Set in a converted 19th-century building, the landmark Metropole Hotel is located on Place de Brouckere in central Brussels, Belgium. The hotel is one block from Rue Neuve, as well as 500 meters from the Grand Place square, Manneken Pis statue, and Chocolate Museum. Brussels Zaventem Airport is 16 kilometers away. Parking and valet parking are available (surcharge).
Hotel Features.
The lobby evokes 19th-century grandeur with bronze marble, gold columns, and huge chandeliers. Built in 1895, Metropole Hotel is the city's oldest hotel. The Italian baroque-style L'Alban Chambon restaurant features stained-glass windows, ochre marble columns, and parquet floors. The restaurant serves French dishes like risotto with Saint-Jacques scallops and wild boar in a sesame-seed crust. Champagne is available in the bar. Opening onto a heated, canopied terrace, Cafe Metropole serves light meals and pastries.

The Metropole Hotel's 286 air-conditioned guestrooms, including 23 suites, feature different decor. All rooms include complimentary wireless Internet access, safes, and minibars with complimentary drinks. Le Jardin Indien - Indian-style decor. Buffet breakfast. Open Monday–Sunday from 6:30 AM - 10:30 AM for hotel guests and visitors.

A heart-shaped ring road defines Brussels’ city core, and most of its visitor attractions. Within these limits, the centre consists of two distinct halves. To the west is the Lower Town, a tangle of medieval streets centred on the Grand Place, a vast cobbled square surrounded by ornate Flemish buildings. The hotel was beautiful and staff were excellent, as was the location. The staff were extremely friendly and accomodating and assisted in us in all of our needs. The only problem was the smell of the room that we were in for three days. We ended up buying air freshener because it smelled of body odor and was very unpleasant. "Metropole Hotel - beautiful, historical, opulent"
Our stay at the Metropole was awesome. The hotel itself is just beautiful, from the front of the building, to the lobby, to the old fashioned elevator made of wrought iron, to the rooms themselves. It is just opulent. I loved the old fashioned uniforms of the bell hops, the his and hers sinks in the bathrooms, towel warmers... Over the top. The only […] (extremely minor) flaws I could find were these: 1. the bed, though huge, was not as plush as I would expect from such an otherwise incredible place. 2. no wash cloths. Is that an American thing? 3. the "complimentary mini bar stocked with Belgian beers" was stocked with 2 small sized Stellas. Now, I like Stella, but I am a beer snob and I was looking for something a little less commonly exported. Those things considered, I think our price on Hotels.com was still a steal, and I don't regret our decision to stay there at all. Look like a great place to stay, sure its ornate, its very big and the foyer is impressive. We check in, no problems...it was like wait until they are in their room and then just forget about providing a service. I asked one of the room service people why I had been charged for an extra breakfast and he almost cried through the bill through the door […] and said something I couldn't understand but I got the idea. "Lovely hotel - Shame about the area"
I stayed in Brussels about 20 years ago and wanted to go back there to see the square and the sights again. The city has changed greatly and although the old lavish buildings still exist, they are surrounded in rubbish, beggers, and basically every form of kebab and chip shop you can get. The lobby of the hotel is very nice and posh looking, however that stops as soon as you step into the room. The location was great, as it was a short walk into the heart of Brussels. But the room left a lot to be desired for the price. The rooms could definitely use an update, not only did everything look outdated, it felt old and grubby. I mean, the […] decor should at least match. The bathroom was dirty and underneath the toilet seat reminded me of a truck stop toilet....gross. We had a lovely view of the rooftop and a brick wall. The hotel seemed empty so I dont know why they gave us the worst room in the hotel. The aircon/fan did not work and we didnt feel it was safe to have the window open while we slept. Although we were on the first floor, the rooftop/fire escape was level with our window. So it wouldnt take much for someone to creep over to our open window and waltz right in. The maintanence man kept trying to come in our room even though we had the do not disturb sign up. He would knock a couple times, then before we could react, he was unlocking the door and helping himself in. This really angered me, and it happened twice. The second time I was ready to kick his you know what. He wandered off without saying a word after I yelled at him. This to me is unacceptable, and I would imagine females would feel very unsafe and vulnerable. There are better hotels out there for the money they are charging. I wouldnt stay there again.
