A heart-shaped ring road defines Brussels’ city core, and most of its visitor attractions. Within these limits, the centre consists of two distinct halves. To the west is the Lower Town, a tangle of medieval streets centred on the Grand Place, a vast cobbled square surrounded by ornate Flemish buildings. To the east is the newer and more aristocratic Upper Town, a zone of palaces and parks, grand museums, and gothic churches.

It's a lovely hotel in a lovely city. I had stayed at the hotel in 1951 as a young child and remembered it as very lovely. It still is - like a grand old dame. It is beautifully maintained and everything is impeccable.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Highly Recommend Metropole"
I was very pleased with all aspects of the Metropole. I had read some reviews that warned of outdated rooms, rude staff and faulty elevator that frankly had me a little concerned. I saw none of that at the Metropole. It was my first time to Brussels and the staff helped me out with the many questions I had, were attentive and very fast with service […] requests. Room was very nice and well attended to. The location was also fantastic, very close to the underground and shopping/restaurant district. I would recommend the Metropole to my friends and family, and have. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

Very nice except that breakfast was MUCH too expensive compared to a croissant and coffee available down the street for one seventh of the cost.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Stunning Metropole"
The Metropole hotel was lovely. The service was more then good. However, it needs a moderate makeover: fresh coat of paint and new rugs. We did not understand about the Internet and its different speeds. I think, this is the Metropole, so internet should be free. It downgrades the hotel. We should have been advised when we registered. Although this […] hotel's lobby is stately, historical and stunning. We loved its location. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Would like to return someday."
Based on the great Expedia rate we received at this hotel, we thought we might get a closet. We actually received beautiful, spacious rooms. As in the other reviews, the elevator broke down and we had to be rescued, but it wasn't a real issue since we were "rescued" in a short amount of time. Our two rooms were spotless and comfortable. Unfortunately, […] one of our rooms smelled like something died in it. The hotel couldn't resolve the issue, so we shut off the air and opened the window. The hotel staff was otherwise very helpful and full of recommendations. We would love to return to this hotel if we make it to Brussels again. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Near a good restaurant area"
Enjoyed it much. The room was rather poky, especially considering the price, and the "view" of a roof and a wall was horrible. But the internet worked fine, the desk people and concierges were very helpful and kind. They suggested we email our boarding pass to them, and they printed it out and delivered it to us. If breakfast had only been included. […] . . Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"A historical excursion..."
While booking a trip to a weekend meeting in Brussels, I discovered what an excellent deal the Metropole is after the eurocrats go home. As an astrophysicist, I immediately leapt at the chance to stay at this historical hotel that played host some of the most important physics conferences of the 20th century. While I certainly got a liberal dose of […] history, the excellent upkeep of the hotel and its 21st century amenities were a pleasant surprise. For the rock-bottom weekend rates, you would hard-pressed to find more luxurious accommodations in Europe or even North America. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great hotel for any travelers"
The Metropole was lovely and in a great location. So easy to get to a Metro station and go anywhere in Brussels. The hotel staff was friendly and very helpful. Breakfast at the hotel was superb. Again the staff made the experience memorable.Genuine Expedia guest review
Love Hotel Metropole, lovely room, was my 3rd time to stay. Awesome location, very friendly staff! Only 1 annoyance, I had to request the fridge to be restocked with complimentary water on 3 occasion. Room service was quick to respond! Will stay again, Hotel Metropole has my recommendation!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Perfect location overall."
Our 2-day stay was wonderful. The hotel is in an excellent location. You could walk anywhere and the metro stop was right outside the hotel. There are lots of places to eat and right behind the hotel is a "shopping boulevard." When we checked in, they gave us a room that looked like it has seen better days and smelled really musty. My husband's allergies […] started to act up so we requested another room. The second room was more updated. If I had one suggestion for the hotel, it would be to update their TVs. All the other hotels we stayed in--even the 3-star hotels--had flat screen TVs. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great hotel"
The Metropole is a very elegant hotel. I was pleasantly suprised at the size of the room. The overall beauty of the hotel exceeded my expections. The staff was pleasant, multilingual, and very helpful. The hotel is walking distance to the Centraal station, the museums, Grand Place, and many great restaurants. Would definitely stay again.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great Old World Hotel"
Can't say enough about this hotel. The staff could not have been more helpful; the room was large and comfortable; near shopping, tour buses, and of course the Grand Place. The hotel has a lot of history (100+ years) associated with it, yet it is an up to date facility. Truly a great place to stay. "Great hotel, close to main attractions"
I really liked this hotel. Room was always clean. Bed was made every day and towels were changed on demand. Unexpected pleasant surprise was that hotel provided 2 bottles of water (still & carbonated) and 2 bottles of Coca-Cola in the fridge, every day, free of charge. That was really nice of them to do that. The hotel is a nice, old style hotel with […] beautiful ceilings, crystal chandeliers and lots of beautiful granite and has an old style functioning elevator that we used every day, the one I have only seen in the movies. The location of the hotel is really good, not too far from the main square, just a short walk away. We walked everywhere. Bar had a happy hour from 6-8 pm, buy 1 get one free per person. So if there is 2 of you than each one will have to get a drink to get 2nd free. They had a nice cafe with a superb service. Prices are a little higher but expected of a 5 star hotel. Food was really good and service was also good. I ate there a few times because of the good food and service after I got fed up with the bad and rude service at other restaurants around main square. I preferred to pay more here at the hotel but to have a service I'm used to here in US. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who is looking for a good, comfy, clean hotel in a good location. When we reported the AC wasn't working, they said they fixed it, but we spent one night in a hot room. The next day, after telling us they couldn't fix it immediately, our room was changed and upgraded. Beautiful old hotel, especially the lobby and old elevator. "Spacious Brussels"
We loved our spacious bathroom and our room had a balcony, which is rare in Europe. The hotel is centrally located and right on a transit line. It's maybe a 5 minute walk to the sights in the old part of Brussels (Maaneken-Piis, Grande Place, Galleries Royales, etc.). When we were leaving no one was there to help us with a taxi (we had a lot of bags) […] and no one offered to help us with our bags. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"The best in Brussels"
We arrived in Belgium early that morning, after an overnight flight. We got to the hotel by 11am. We thought we would have to check our bags, and wait till later to get a room. No such thing. They were GREAT. Beautiful room with a giant king bed. They were unbelievably gracious. Immaculate room and bathroom. Free beer, soda, and water in mini bar. Friendly […] staff. Everyone spoke English, or bent over backward to try. Buffet breakfast were incredible. My wife and I ate twice a day. Breakfast and then dinner. OK so we snuck in fresh Belgium waffles with chocolate sauce a few times. Great location. Great café on site. The Metropole Hotel is gorgeous and very clean. It definitely has that "old-world" Europe feel to it. Our room was beautiful and very comfortable. The staff was very friendly and helpful. "great find for 4 night stay!"
Pros: magnificent, grand and beautifully appointed turn of the century(20th) hotel. accessible location with metro stop right outside the front door. 3 of us traveling together found discounted rate on Hotels dot com. Both of our rooms were very large(unusual for many European hotels). Sumptuous breakfast buffet with great coffee! Beer, coke and water […] provided daily---gratis--- in the in-room mini-bar(another surprise). Spacious bathroom with tub for 2! Cons: no mirror provided in bedroom or sitting area; bed location in rm 156 is adjacent to fitness center and sound of weights dropping started at 6am. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Metropole Hotel in Brussels - Great Bar"
This was my 3rd stay and I love this hotel. The bar / cafe is reason enough to stay. The Metropole's late 19th century design is becoming increasingly rare in our modern world, the hotel is great place to take a break from the 21st century. If you know Milwaukee's Pfister Hotel or the Drake in Chicago you have sense of Metropole Brussels! The location […] is perfect for tourist, the subway stop is right in front, a major shopping street is behind the hotel, and the Grand Place is a couple blocks away. My only negative was the Concierge staff , they provided either no help or bad information. I was most surprised about their lack of initiative Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"A week in Brussels at the Metropole"
The hotel is within walking distance of the Grand Place and many other tourist venues. The lobby is amazing. The style and painting are excelent. Brunch was included with our expedia rate. Altough the food was different than I am used to at home, it was good and there was a wide selection. The service at the brunch was excelent with my coffee cup being […] filled regularly. The hotel does not have a business center where I could check in online for my flight home. To offset this the staff allowed me to use one of their computers and printer to print the boarding passes. The included wifi worked well for my smart phone and laptop. Our room was very clean and well laid out. The furnishings were older and the room could use a decorating update. The decorations did not look anything like the pictures on their web site. We can only assume we got a room that had not been redecorated in 20 or 30 years. The only maintenance complaint was the drains on the sinks did not work properly. Overall we had a good stay. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Lovely Hotel"
The hotel is very nice. The location within 10 minutes of the Grand Place is excellent. The only warning is regarding the Metropole Cafe. It is located in the front of the hotel and has outside seating. The food is below average. The waiter stated that the cafe rents space from the hotel and is not a part of Metropole. "Can't imagine a better hotel in Brussels"
My wife and I don't usually stay at hotels as nice as this one, but the deal we got made it very affordable. "Prime Location"
This Hotel was in a great location. We ended up taking the bus from the train station when we arrived and it was so close (two stops) that the bus driver told us not to worry about paying. It was so easy to get everywhere from our hotel. We didn't take transportation again until we were leaving and the hotel recommended that we take the train to the […] airport. I always appreciate it when a hotel (especially this nice) recommends public transportation over a taxi. Every time we left the hotel we stopped at the concierge desk for help and they were extremely helpful every single time. We went to three countries on our trip and travel regularly. "Hotel Metropole in Brussels"
We stayed at the Hotel Metropole in Brussels for 4 nights and had a wonderful time. The hotel is beautiful--the Art Nouveau decor is astounding. The hotel in itself is a tourist destination mentioned in many guidebooks of Brussels. The rooms are beautiful as well. My only complaint about the room is that there was some minor disrepair in the bathroom […] and no view to speak of--we were overlooking a wall. Which wasn't too terrible because we were really only in the room to sleep. The free mini-bar including Belgian beers was an added bonus as well as free wireless. Location is great, just a short walk from the major sights in Brussels. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Stayed here for 2 nights in May, 2011. Very conveniently located. Gorgeous lobby.
