Grand old hotel, café, bar and restaurant with art deco architecture and furnishings miraculously preserved for more than a century. Fantastic location in the center of Brussels, walking distance to all downtown tourist hot spots, but location on main square also very noisy at night, in particular during the soccer EM. Room […] (128) good sized but very poor soundproofing to the street and tired furnishings: hole in the curtain (mended), paint peeling of doors and doorjambs, chipped sink, tube-type TV and stained carpet. Free soft drinks and beer in romm fridge are a nice gesture, as is the free basic internet access. Free parking with valet service is a real plus in downtown Brussels. "The good and bad"
The hotel lobby is quite nice and the location is excellent. The service was extremely variable. Here were my specific issues. 1) Ordered King bed with my reservation and placed in non-King room but not told that. When i inquired they said they did not have anymore rooms. 2) Three of lights were burned out making myself and crew originally believe there […] was an electrical problem and it took them 30 or 40 minutes to figure out and bring replacement bulbs. 3) No shampoo l or do not disturb sign was left in the room-- I had to ask the next day. The cleaning crew did not knock they just entered the room and assumed I was not there. I was standing close to the door at the time so it was not due to lack of hearing a knock. It happened twice. 4) Concierge service was variable. One told me to come in the morning and I could get my train ticket booked by them. The next morning the concierge (female) did not want to be bothered and told me it would cost more but not sure how much and i should just go to train station. So i went-- selected train had just sold out and found out did not cost more to book via hotel. 5) The walls are thin and could easily hear my neighbors television at night. The internet service was free and sometimes slow but compared to other European hotels, the service was pretty good. The ambiance and location were great! The public spaces are avery nice but it needs rennovation. From the old style neon sign outside with semi faded latters to the turnaround door which must be 30+ years old to the furniture of the rooms, the very large environment are dumly lit but you can see dust on the lamps, etc. Might have been a grand hotel but now its an OK place to stay but that's […] it. "Hotel Metropole, - A work in Progress"
This hotel is a bit of a mixed bag. The public space is lovely, and our rooms were quite fine. However, the halls were shabby and a bit of a mess (missing wood pieces, etc.) The hotel is huge, but it seems that only part of it has been renovated. It is one of those properties that has a few 4-5 star characteristics, but overall is just not in that category […] in terms of the whole experience. Service is cold. No pillow for bed. They use cushion, a mall square cushion, can you believe. The show facility is not good at all. We booked hotel Metropole in Brussels through expedia. It looked very grand and so our expectations were high. However, unfortunately, it did not meet our expectations and the usual standards of a 5* hotel. The rooms that you see in the photos are not actually what you get. We expressed our disappointment to the reception staff who kindly showed us […] 2 other rooms to choose from, all 3 rooms were mediocre. The plumbing in the room was not great, the toilet would not flush within a good 15mins of being flushed as it filled extremely slowly. The restaurant, that I had read good reviews about was unreasonably overpriced, at £70 per head, the menu was very limited and really not worth it. The staff were all absolutely lovely. "No tea in the room and over charged for a telephon"
Although it is said to be a 4 star Hotel but there was not a tea tray in the room. I have been to many other Hotel but never charged for a complimentary tea in my room and it always been available for no charges. "Great location, great lobby, and thats about it."
The lobby of the hotel is very nice and posh looking, however that stops as soon as you step into the room. The location was great, as it was a short walk into the heart of Brussels. But the room left a lot to be desired for the price. The rooms could definitely use an update, not only did everything look outdated, it felt old and grubby. I mean, the […] decor should at least match. The bathroom was dirty and underneath the toilet seat reminded me of a truck stop toilet....gross. We had a lovely view of the rooftop and a brick wall. The hotel seemed empty so I dont know why they gave us the worst room in the hotel. The aircon/fan did not work and we didnt feel it was safe to have the window open while we slept. Although we were on the first floor, the rooftop/fire escape was level with our window. So it wouldnt take much for someone to creep over to our open window and waltz right in. The maintanence man kept trying to come in our room even though we had the do not disturb sign up. He would knock a couple times, then before we could react, he was unlocking the door and helping himself in. This really angered me, and it happened twice. The second time I was ready to kick his you know what. He wandered off without saying a word after I yelled at him. This to me is unacceptable, and I would imagine females would feel very unsafe and vulnerable. There are better hotels out there for the money they are charging. I wouldnt stay there again. The lobby is a museum-gorgeous. The restaurant was closed for three days when I was there, The service was so indifferent in the cafe downstairs that I walkied out even before they took my order. Jag har många gånger bott på detta hotell under de senaste tio åren och jag har tyvärr kunnat konstatera en gradvis försämring av kvaliteten. Nu tycks det som att det endast är hotellets läge som är verkligt attraktivt. Allt annat har changerat. Frukosten har gradvis försämrats från att ha varit ett under av fräschör och mångfald till att bli allt mer […] alldaglig. Vid mitt senaste besök i augusti 2012 hade t.o.m. croque monsieur-järnen avlägsnats för gott och den färska fruktbuffén ersatts av en medioker fruktsallad bestående av 85 % äpplen. Ett annat tecken på den nedåtgående trenden kan vara följande: Jag råkade glömma en praktisk tillhörighet på rummet. Saken hade inget ekonomiskt värde men är svår att återanskaffa. Jag sände samma dag ett meddelande till hotellet och bad dem att på min bekostnad sända mig detaljen. Jag har efter två veckor inte fått någon försändelse eller ens ett svar på min e-postförfrågan. Hotel wirkt zwar veraltet aber sehr gepflegt, das Zimmer war sauber aber nur mäßig schön eingerichtet, es hatte nur ein kleines Fenster in einen Innenhof, dieses Fenster war gekippt ließ sich nicht schließen und somit auch nicht ganz öffnen. Frühstücksbuffet sehr gut mit sehr netter Bedienung. Am Abreisetag gab man die Koffer freundlicher Weise in ein […] Kofferdepot, man händigte uns dabei sehr professionell wirkend einen Abholschein mit einer Nummer (unsere Zimmernummer) aus. Als wir den Koffer mit diesem Abholschein wieder abholten, übergab man uns einen falschen Koffer. Da der Koffer uns ausgehändigte Koffer genauso aussah wie unserer bemerkten wir den Fehler erst als wir schon beinahe am Flughafen waren. Das Hotel ist etwas in die Jahre gekommen und ist für diese Preisklasse renovierungsbedürftig. Das Personal beim Frühstücksbuffet ist auch nicht das freundlichste. Die Lage ist wiederum sehr gut zu Fuß benötigt man ca 15 min zum Grand Place.
