Hotel great - city a mess. Perfect location- English speaking- rooms largish for Greece- view unbeatable- beds a bit hard- breakfast wonderful- enjoy the roof top view for an evening drink but skip dinner here and hit the street- provided there is not a strike going on- the major drawback for Athens- hard to really like a city with no taxis, buses, […] trains, tear gas in the streets and air traffic controllers on strike too! Will Never do Greece again. Athens Gate did do much to help- in fact they were impressive in how they assisted- but they are a small calm island in a very broken system. Read more

Athens Gate is located one block from entry to Plaka, walking distance to Acropolis, half a block to hop on-hop off bus. Staff and rooms were great. Elevator leaves a bit to be desired as only holds 4 people. Restaurant at top has great view but food leaves a lot to be desired. Go for drink and snacks, not dinner.

This was a great stay, acurately portrayed by the web-site, and modest cost. Get a room facing the ruins across the street, well worth any additional cost, besides, you're probably here to see the sights anyway. Very centrally located, subway, bus & taxi were readily available but we walked almost everywhere. Lots of walking to be done in Athens. Hotel […] food was pretty good but we only ate the breakfast, perferred the local places and styles(and there are plenty of them near the hotel) to get a better flavour of the area. The view from the room of Hadian's Arch and the ruins across the street was magnificent and topped only by the view of the Acropolis from the roof top bar and resturant. The Athens Gate is a wonderful option in Athens--an easy walk (and luggage drag) from the Acropolis metro stop, easy walking distances from major sites, incredible views from the rooms and roof restaurant (where complimentary breakfast is), attentive staff, great value. An internet option is to purchase a WI-Fi access card from them (vs. the 5 euro/per […] day) at your choice of denomination--easy and at your convenience. Hotel is in the perfect location. From the rooftop terrace, (bar and restaurant), you can see the Acropolis, Parliament and the Temple of Zeus. The best view of Athens in the city! Cabs were getting ready to strike the day we were leaving so they arranged for a private car to pick us up and even had a bag breakfast packed for us as we left, which was at 4:30 am! Walked throughout the whole Plaka - no car needed once you've seen all the architectural things to see. Just around the corner from the Acropolis Museum, which is fantastic, by the way! The only thing I could see improved upon is the mattress and the pillows! Both were a bit hard but the location, the view and the staff made up for the shortfalls. I would definitely stay here again. From the roof-top restaurant you have the view of the Parthenon, The Temple of Zues (which is right across the street) and beautiful Athens. A great hotel, however, be aware that one side boarders on a major road with lots of noisy traffic. We were very, very happy with our quiet westside room. Great location for historical sites of Athens, and view is great of the Acropolis from the rooftop terrace. 5 minute walk to Syntagma Square and great shopping. You can see temple of Olympian Zeus and Hadrian's Gate from the front door. Beautiful decor and very great staff.

Our stay was post cruise, and we stayed 4 days before returning home. The cons, wifi was not included in price and the bed was hard. The pros, Room was clean and the included breakfast was as good as any hotel having both hot and cold selections. The view from the resturant was great both for breakfast and in the evening for drinks, The hotel staff […] was professional, helpful, and we easily understood thier english. This includes doorman, desk, housekeeping and resturant. We took a cab from the cruise port on arrival and also to the airport on departure. The hop on hop off bus stop is very close making it very easy to get around to all the major tourist sites. This hotel is perfect: for location, sevices, etc., except it is on a high traffic street (6 lanes). My wife is a light sleeper and woke up from traffic noise several times. I had no problem sleeping though. Very comfortablr bed. Good breakfast buffet though.

Assigned room was the on busy street front side, asked for a room on the back side but was told to try it becasue they had double pane windows and they were right; slept peacefully our 3 nites there. the roof top restaurant was superb; view of the Acropplis, breadfast was outstanding, dinner was OK. We congratulated the chef on 2 nights of wonderful cuisine. You must stay through the sunset to see the Acropolis at night. We upgraded our room to the 6th floor and had a fantastic view of Hadrian's arch and the ruins. The balcony and bath was worth the extra costs.
