The Hotel Grande Bretagne in Athens, Greece, is a 19th-century palace facing the main Syntagma Square and adjacent to the Parliament Building. The Acropolis, the New Acropolis Museum and the labyrinthine Plaka (old town) are within 1 kilometre. Syntagma metro station is 300 metres from the hotel.
Hotel Features.
Set in a palace built in 1862, locals call the Hotel Grande Bretagne the 'Royal Box'. Guests enter through rotating doors into a lobby with Corinthian columns, Persian carpets and neobaroque-style furniture.
The skylit Winter Garden is the setting for breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, and dinner with piano music. The high-ceilinged GB Corner restaurant's signature dish is Dover sole meunier. Open all year-round, the GB Roof Garden serves cocktails and Greek specialities from the grill.
The GB spa features a mosaic-lined indoor pool, sauna, Turkish bath/Hammam, reflexology foot baths, and treatments like hot stone massage and Oshadhi herbal wraps. The tree-fringed rooftop outdoor pool affords Acropolis views. A fully equipped fitness center is also on site.

Decorated with antique furniture, subtle cream hues, and red and gold fabrics, the Hotel Grande Bretagne's 320 guestrooms have a marble bathroom, minibar, wired and wireless Internet access (surcharge) and views of the inner courtyard or Syntagma Square.

"Do not stay here"
For the price this hotel should be beyond all expectations but I have stayed in nicer Holiday Inns. They definitely make the effort to be top tier with fancy decor but the service is awful. Small crowded rooms compared to the competition and the employees are not excited to help you. The closet at our hotel in Santorini was literaly bigger than the […] room at this hotel and was nearly half the price. Also this was the only hotel we stayed at in Greece that did not have wireless internet and you still had to pay for the wire in the room. This hotel is the definition of underwhelming.
