Once an area of leather tanning workshops, Psirri was transformed a few years back to make it Athens’ prime nightspot. The hotel was ok and the room also although the bathroom had no window or any kind of air flowing system and was extremely tiny and quite "used". Hotel staff was very friendly and accomodating. Got us cheap transportation to the airport when all were on strike. Location was near bus lines and subway and a not so long walk to the old town and central market. Complimentary breakfast was so-so. Opened at 6:30 but hot foods did not come out until after 7. The Dorian Inn is a decent hotel with very attentive front desk service. It is located very close to a metro station, and is only about a 10 minute walk to Plaka. Unfortunately, it is not in the best area. I never did feel unsafe walking alone around the hotel (I am a solo female traveler), but there were often police around rounding up groups of people. "Hidden gem - don't be put off by the surroundings!"
Thankfully, I booked into the Dorian Inn before I discovered that it was situated in the heart of Omonia, allegedly one of the most seedy and dangerous parts of Athens. Needless to say, I was horrified upon reading accounts of tourists who had been followed, threatened or robbed while walking in the area, and even considered booking into a different […] hotel in another area of the city before I flew out. All I can say is, thank goodness I didn't. Firstly, the hotel is literally a minute's walk from the metro, making it perfect for connections around the city; I walked between the metro and hotel several times and at no point did I feel ill at ease. The staff at reception were generally helpful; my room was nice and comfortable and air-conditioned, and the breakfast was very nice. What really sets this hotel apart, though, is the rooftop swimming pool. Going up to the roof, sunbathing and seeing the most incredible views over the city, the Acropolis and beyond...it can only be described as sheer bliss. In my opinion, it's worth staying at this hotel for this alone. You get what you pay for. The hotel rooms are average. The rooftop bar is absolutely amazing. Very nice views/drinks/decent food. The area is terrible, but during the day it is very accessible to the metro station to get out and explore. Walking to other neighbourhoods is also possible within 10-15mins. "Familiehotell som gir veldig mye for pengene"
Hotellet har god kvalitet satt etter Gresk standard og er helt optimalt om man har med barn. Velger man trippelrom medutsikt får man 11 etasje, Athenian floor, med stor veranda på ca 25 m2 og utsikt over hele vestlige og nordlige Athen. Dette er det eneste sentrale hotellet med badebasseng på taket som er et must i varme Athen med barn. Det ligger 10 […] minutts gange langs en av hovedhandlegatene ned til restaurantområdene i Monestriaki og Psiri, som igjen er 4 minutter fra Akropolis. Taxi til Plaka eller Akropolis er ca 2 Euro og taxiene er lett å få på den store plassen rett ved hotelet. gateparkering med bil anbefales ikke og kvartalene nord for Psiri plassen og vest for Athena veien ble vi av politiet anbefalt å holde oss unna på nattestid. Det som særlig trekker opp hotellet er nærheten til markedet og de viktigste severdighetene samt basseng og kveldsbaren i 13. etasje med fantastisk utsikt over Akropolis. De fleste nyere hotellene synse å være i dette område, idet plassen rett i nærheten er byens knytepunkt. Dersom dere booker rom 1002 får man den største verandaen og den eneste med litt utsikt sørover med utsyn mot Akropolis. Skal vi tilbake til Athen er dette et naturlig valg for oss. WiFi not free and too expensive. Nowadays there are enough choices with free WiFi. Things changed last years, Dorian Inn should evolve also. For the rest, the hotel is very good, especially in relation with prices you get currently. Cleaning is enough good. Counter team is friendly. The neighbourhood is affected by the crisis but not so bad as some […] people say. Even problematic people around avoid making troubles with tourists, problems are between them. We walked around late at night and the few guys around weren't a menace. Pool and bar on top of the hotel are very comfortable. The view of Acropolis from there is wonderful! Food is not so special but good. Wine choices OK. Prices are not cheap but for dinning with such view are OK. Team is variable but mainly friendly. Breakfast is enough good if included in room price. If I should pay for it, I'd go to another place (there are better choices around). Breakfast till 10:00 is not up-to-date (tourism changed and many hotels got adapted extending breakfast times at least till 11). They could update the coffee machine for a better one with Cappuccino and Latte Macchiato. I'd recommend the hotel to anyone who doesn't need Internet. I like to read more than tourist guides, when visiting a foreign country I read every morning (Wikipedia or other) about what I'll do that day and every evening clearing doubts and questions about what I visited.
