Masson House

I highly recommend the Masson House. It is probably the best deal in town because of the combination of low daily room cost and the sumptuous full Scottish breakfast every morning. I have never before seen such an affordable package in a European hotel. While it is a 20 minute walk from the AirLink bus stop at Waverley Station, the walk was along busy […] city streets and was not arduous. The hotel room was comfortable and had all of the necessary amenities. One small annoyance was that the heating system makes noise when it comes on in the morning, and the rooms are not sound-proofed. The staff was also very helpful. I left my cell phone charger behind and I called the hotel and asked them to mail it to me, which they sent to me for a credit card charge of 5 GBP. Read more

The Hotel is very good. Excelent rooms, service and breakfast. It is a litle bit far from teh Center, but well assisted by bus and taxi. Some houses are far to the Breakfast that are served in a big center for many houses of the complex but it is not difficult issue. The only bad thing is the Wi-fi signal that is not good. het hotel is zeer goed en licht op steenworp afstand van alle bezienswaardigheden,zoals het holyrood park het centrum is op een 30 min afstand lopen. we gaan zeer zeker nog een keer terug.zeker voor de military tattoo.dit was een geweldige voor stelling.

Nachdem ich hier die Bewertungen gelesen hatte, wurde ich schon etwas vorsichtig, dachte mir aber so schlimm kann es doch nicht sein..... Edinburgh im August, so wusste ich, ist nun mal die teuerste Zeit. Als zahlten wir für diese eine Nacht inkl. Frühstück sehr viel Geld! Zum Vergleich: In Stockholm (auch sehr teuer im Sommer) zahlten wir um einiges […] weniger in einem 4-Sterne Hotel als hier in Edinburgh. Das war eine absolute Pleite. Das Masson House liegt direkt auf dem Campus der Universität Edinburgh und ist ein Hostel. Ich kann nicht verstehen, woher es die drei Sterne für ein Hotel bekommen hat!! Die kleinen Zimmer machten uns nichts aus, aber das der Teppichboden teilweise richtig staubverschmutz war, das war nicht mehr ok. Ausserdem kann mann tatsächlich gleichzeitig duschen, die Toilette benutzen und Zähne putzen. Das Band ist nämlich eine eingebaute Plastikkabine, wie eben bei einer Studentenbude. Das allerschlimmste daran war aber, dass die Wände papierdünn sind. Ausschlafen ist nicht drin. Wir kamen von der Military Tattoo relativ spät heim und wollten gemütlich ausschlafen. Ab 7 Uhr morgens geht es mit dem morgenlichen Türeschlagen aber so laut zu, dass an schlafen nicht mehr zu denken ist. Das Frühstück (das sollte der Lichtblick für uns sein) fand in der Mensa des Campuses statt. Es war laut, unfreundlich, super voll und eine absolute Massenabfertigung. Sowas hab ich bei einem "Hotel" noch nie erlebt. Wir sind dann zügig am nächsten Tag in ein anderes richtiges 3-Sterne-Hotel gewechselt und waren sehr glücklich darüber. Dieses "Hotel" ist nur empfehlenswert wenn es die korrekten Preise hat und es einem nichts ausmacht in einem Hostel zu wohnen. Read more

I would like to have know that it is actually a student house used occasionally as a hotel - rooms and bathrooms were tiny. Internet acces fee was too high and breakfast in the huge canteen in another building was chaotic.
