Holiday Inn Express Edinburgh Waterfront

The room was really tidy. However, we booked a double room and was given two single beds pushed together to create a 'king' without suitable linen. The room was quite small but probably adequate for our stay as we were not there during the day. It was good that breakfast was available.

Lack of television channels and weak signal meant tv was not worth watching. I paid for a weeks Internet connection but it kept dropping out and freezing. Lack of staff at front of house meant waiting for longer than acceptable for book in and bar.

Stayed at Holiday Inn as had read reviews that it was quiet. Upon arrival I asked if I could have a room in a quiet part of the hotel as I was attending a course in Edinburgh that weekend. I was told they only have a room that is next to a talking elevator! After complaining, I waited in my room for 15 minutes untill they tried to move me, they did […] and this time next to the main hotel lift which is the only visible lift from reception so everyone uses it! Needless to say I did not sleep a wink. I was told the next morning by reception that I should have stated on my booking that I wanted a quiet room! My view is, you the guest are paying a hefty price to stay in this hotel for a nights sleep and that is what you should recieve, regardless of where you are in the hotel! Entrance and welcome was friendly. On entering room and having seen picture on internet and having stayed in the Holiday Express on the continent found the room and bed small. Further disappointment came on entering the bathroom to discover that it was only a shower. We were looking forward to a cooked breakfast buffet to discover that the choice was […] only poor quality pork sausages and scrambled egg. As for the cold options - cereal, one flavour of yoghurt, grapefruit, croisants or toast was not at all exciting, more so as the bread was stale. For a coffee "addict" it was from a instant push machine so the 2 shots of expresso filled the mug with a weak coffee but stronger than the mug black coffee option. Any complaints cannot be made at the hotel as they can't do anything about it as they say "We're only a Holiday Inn Express not Holiday Inn". So if staff feel that way how can you raise standards and choice? Location was perfect for buses and £3.00 for unlimited travel per day is excellent; plus the fact that you can just park your car, know it is safe and no driving for the duration of the stay so if you do fancy wine or something stronger when out for a meal then everyone in your party can enjoy. Lots of lovely restaurants within walking distance but with the unlimited travel those further in town can be sampled too. Read more

Staff were OK but no hot water on second morning meant cold shower. Not good enough at any price although this may have been a one off. I left a comment card with contact details. No contact yet from hotel.
