They really did think of everything with this hotel; coffee and tea in the room, a clothes line for drying clothes, bathrobes, a large bottle of drinking water delivered each day to the room, a newspaper left at the door; everything you'd possibly need. There's even a special door through which room service meals can be delivered to the room in perfect […] privacy. The room felt luxurious and meticulously maintained, the service was excellent and the staff were genuinely friendly and eager to help. The location is ideal, right at the edge of the old town but a convenient walk to other parts of town, and there's a lift that takes you right down into Waverly station, where you can easily grab a train, bus, or taxi. Staying in this hotel felt like a vacation, and it was a pleasure just to relax and read, or soak in the bath after a long day. Absolutely lovely; I'd stay there again in a heartbeat. Read more

We loved the room and location, were very satisfied with the overall cleanliness of the room and building, and impressed with the very helpful hotel staff... but as a 5'2" woman, I could not pull the tall, heavy wool drapes closed by myself, and my 6" tall husband's feet hung off the end of the bed. Amazing stay in wonderful hotel. If you can stay on the 9th floor or any with a view of the city it's amazing! Only one lift so slow to get to your floor or down, but worth it. Tough to get to if you're driving. If you can go ahead and look on their website about where to park and then bring your luggage up rather than try to stop outside the hotel […] and unload. Incredible location at Market Street and North Bridge,One block from the Royal Mile and across the street from the Waverley Train Station and a block and a half from the # 100 Airport bus terminal(bus leaves every 10 minutes). You can easily walk to many of the Edinburgh sites. It is in an old but cool building next to a very steep hill so the layout […] is confusing. The lobby is on the 4th floor off North Bridge Street. Wonderful, historically quaint hotel, very centrally located to the Royal Mile and Castle, the rail station, and shops/restaurants of Edinburgh. Can walk to everything! This is a beautiful hotel and in the best possible location for seeing Edinburgh. All of this, however, is obvious from a glance at the hotel's website. What the pictures can't show you, however, is the quality of the service. On our first morning a fixture in the bath tub failed, requiring an extensive plumbing repair and rendering the room unusable. […] Unfortunately we couldn't move to another room as the hotel was fully booked. Instead, the resourceful staff moved us to a beautiful room at the Caledonia, with full breakfast, and provided a taxi service for us. When we returned to the Scotsman the next night, they upgraded us to the Penthouse suite (an astonishing set of rooms with a near-panoramic view of the city), with a complimentary bottle of scotch. We were greeted warmly by staff whenever we went out or returned. Everyone was fully briefed about the arrangements that were made (at both Scotsman and Caldeonia) and thihgs could not have been made easier for us. I wouldn't even think about staying anywhere else. Very family friendly. Can't compare with hotels in Paris that did not allow a baby for a room for two! The Scotsman staffs really welcomed our two year old very active daughter. We stayed five nights and it was very comfortable throughout. Highly recommendable for families with young kids.

The couch had a cashmere tartan draping over it and the cupboards looked antique but incorporated modern elements which made the whole room feel very warm and comfortable. The hotel is just 5 minutes away from the Waverly Station and a few minutes away from the Royal Mile and tour agencies. Highly recommended! Not only was the hotel practically perfect, each & every staff person was wonderful. The only issue is that one side of the building is sprinkled with bars and so, even though we were stories above, the loud music & voices went on into the wee hours, waking us. Just request a quiet side. Otherwise, perfect!

The concierge service at this hotel was extraordinary, the staff were friendly and helpful, and the room was beautiful. The hotel itself was situated in an ideal location for sight-seeing around Old-Town, with many nice restaurants and pubs nearby. Edinburgh Castle, Mary King's Close, Holyrood Palace, the Scott Memorial, and the National Galleries were […] all within walking distance. The only drawback to this hotel in summer is the lack of air-conditioning in the bedrooms. They can get a bit stuffy, even with the tabletop fan provided for air circulation. Sleeping with the windows open was a challenge, as they opened onto a very noisy street with people shouting and partying til 3am...even on weeknights. That said, I would definitely stay here again. The central location, the elegance of the hotel, and above all the helpfulness of the staff and concierge overcome those small drawbacks in my opinion. Read more

We got upgraded to a suite, which was very nice, but there was no way to turn on the shower except to lean in over the toilet and get sprayed with cold water before standing up again. Also, the extra toilet paper roll was installed on the wall right next to the toilet and had become loose because of my and everyone else's bumping it with their legs. […] Finally, the bathroom telephone was installed right where your shoulder is if your sitting on the toilet, so I was constantly knocking if off the hook. We spent our holiday at B&Bs until our last day and happy we chose the Scotsman for our farewell departure. Wonderfully located with superb service.
