It must be terribly hard to keep up standards in a hotel. The rooms are fantastic with soaring ceilings and views, but tiny details were off. So, no... butter with breakfast two days in a row, no hairdryer in the room and housekeeping a bit disbelieving about this -- just tiny things that are a bit irksome when on a business trip. I can't say enough good things about my stay at the Balmoral. From the first step into the hotel, it felt like entering heaven. Everything was taken care of and the staff greeted me by name. I only wished I had stayed longer to enjoy more of the facilities. My room was superb which included turn down service with fresh bottled water. The saving grace of the hotel is its staff, and the 'Number One' restaurant - everything else is mediocre. Quite how the hotel feels it can call itself conttemporary is beyond me, it is really quite staid, and plays on its reputation. Rooms are clean, but basic - bathrooms are desperately in need of a refurbishment, and the fact that you have to pay […] for internet access mean that anyone looking to work in the evening has to pay for the privilage. When compared to the boutique type hotels which are close by - Tiger Lilly, Le Monde, both in George Street, this hotel appears expensive and dull. I've seen other reviews describe The Balmoral as the best hotel in Edinburgh - frankly those reviewers haven't looked beyond the popular hotel brands that are familiar to travellers the world over. Et rigtig godt hotel med en generel super service fra personalet og en god komfort på værelserne. Eneste problem var fraværet af WIFI på værelserne. I hallen/receptionen kunne man benytte wifi, men det tog de sig betalt for!!! Det er simpelthen så gammeldags og slet ikke, hvad man bør forvente af et så moderne og godt hotel!
