The dreaming spires of Oxford have inspired poets, musicians and novelists. Home to Inspector Morse and the world famous university, it also has a rich industrial heritage. The Ashmolean Museum is one of the finest in the country, Cowley Road is lined with cool pubs, and punting on the Isis is great fun, but most visitors are content just to wander the cobbled streets and soak up the grandeur.see all hotels in Oxford
Stayed here several times and will be back again. very comfortable rooms in a unique setting (castle, former jail, etc.), nice amenities, toiletries and the concierge is great with helping out with airport and local transport advice. also the rooms are very much separated from the bar and restaurant which makes for a nice quiet stay.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Sub Standard Service - I expected better....."
Hotel is great, very interesting conversion in a great location. The let downs were: On checking in, reception openly clarified room rate in front of my partner, I've never experienced this before when checking in as a couple. I use hotels every week, so found this unprofessional! The restaurant was way below expectations, food was very good, meal for […] 2 was £220 (incl 1 bottle of wine @£38). However, the staff were so forgetful, at dinner, multiple items failed to either arrive, or arrive at the right time. Then at breakfast, the same things happened again, items failed to arrive after being ordered, ketchup bottle looked like it was being used by toddlers just before us. Staff are very polite, just operate at a low standard in my opinion. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Go on - spoil yourself!"
We just wanted a couple of nights of quality hotel to make a pleasant change from the budget hotels that we usually use, and that's what we got. The room was clean, the bed really comfortable, and all the facilities of a quality room that you would expect. Like everyone who writes a review on Malmaisons, I must comment that the lighting is low. Although […] it may be a trademark of the place, just a decent reading light for the bed would be welcome. We didn't use the restaurant, but we did have some wonderful cocktails at the atmospheric cocktail bar. I feel that a few hotel facilities such as a spa or a gym would justify the price somewhat, but all in all, we had an enjoyable experience. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great hotel in the heart of Oxford"
Enjoyed the stay although the pillows were bad. So soft your head sank right through to the bed. Deifnitely need more pillows or to have a pillow menu available. Otherwise the hotel was great, located in the heart of the city and has very friendly staff.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"New Years Day Treat"
We only had one night stay but could have spent three days just exploring this amazingly clever hotel. A wonderful concept, they have made it vibrant and modern without losing any of the mystique of the old prison setting.Beautiful bedroom suite, wonderful and very sensibly priced dinner and welcoming staff. With car parking out the front (a must in […] the centre of Oxford, but do book in advance) we will definately return Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Worth a try but read on before deciding"
Very central hotel clean quirky but front of house staff need some serious training. Our first impression of the hotel was impressive with the wonderful frontage until we met one of the worst receptions to a hotel we have ever experienced. The reception consists of a number of desks with a receptionist behind each. We may have just been unlucky however […] she was totally disinterested, never invited us to sit down and rarely made eye contact. She spoke in clipped sentences when we asked questions as if we were not good enough to be staying at the hotel due to our late booking and gave us the impression it was beneath her to even be on the desk. The receptionist then without a smile handed over the keys whilst still making us stand, sent us to the wrong floor and as we found out later placed the wrong number of days on the card so our door would not open on the last day. The latter would not normally be a problem is it was not for our first experience. I mentioned our dissatisfaction to another receptionist at the time of leaving. To the hotels credit she looked surprised and with conviction said she would find out who was on reception the day we arrived and the manager would be informed. This may well be a one off, we all have members of our teams who require further training or be invited to look elsewhere for a new vocation. I don’t feel this should deter you from experiencing this quirky hotel however unlike us may be if you too experience a similar arrival take it up with the manager straight away. Customers should also be aware that the beds are like boards. If you use an orthopaedic mattress this is the hotel for you. If you don’t you might need one after your stay. I was assured that the hotel are aware of this and trialling mattress toppers. I would recommend that you insist on being part of the trial if you don’t wish to experience this aspect of prison life! It’s still worth a try. The Hotel is very central within the wonderful city of Oxford Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Very nice hotel, great location in the centre of Oxford. Parking charges were a little steep at £20. Food in the restraunt was ok, but pricy, but there were many choices available within walking distance.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
