This hotel had the basic necessities. It was always very clean. My room was near the front of the hotel and I could smell cigarette smoke in the room from people smoking outside. The bed wasn't very comfortable, but it was warm. Those are really my only complaints! This hotel is in Zone 2 of the underground, so it's a little bit off of the beaten path, but not by much. The underground station was about a 10 minute walk, but there is also a bus stop within a 5 minute walk. The staff at the door were always nice. The hotel was alot better than expected! My room ws nice and spacious with an en suite bathroom. Whilst I was there they were painting. I would like to give some small tips on how to improve the hotel. First of all I complained that my shower was not working properly, no one never came to fx it meaning I did not have a decent shower. Other reviewers are right that it is old, but for the money, it's decent. Pretty old, but decently kept up for all that. The main problem is that it is about a 20 minute train ride from Kings Cross & 40 minutes from the center of London.

Excellent location for Emiriates Stadium with good directions supplied from hotel. No vegetarian breakfast available. Room had no hot water in shower or sink Somewhere to sleep for few hours after a concert so did the job - but really needed a hot shower! £18 taxi fare from Paddington station.

I wasn't expecting too much from this hotel because it was so cheap but though the room was basic, with a shared bathroom, the owners had gone to a lot of trouble to try and make it as comfortable as possible with good beds, plenty of towels, soap, tea making facilities and a large, new television. The best thing about the stay was the amazing breakfast - full English or continental, along with unlimited cereal, proper juice and unlimited toast and jam, all delivered by concientious waitresses. Room is very small and it gets very hot in the summer. In the morning I've got woke up by the smell from the kitchen. Not really nice to be awake by the smell of stale fat at 6.00 in the morning. Otherwise people at the reception were very very nice and friendly (rare enough to mention it!) and the breakfast was really tasty and substancial.

I've stopped in a lot of cheap London hotels but this was good value for the money with a cooked breakfast. The only issue was I booked twin and got a double, that was Hotels.com fault. Great service swapped the rooms about and ended up in a triple.

Some of the staff were wonderful - one older staff member who took over reception turned away my pizza order even though the delivery driver had clear instructions to ask at reception for my room and my name was printed on the order - they didn't even bother to check with me. Close to transport links, in an attractive part of residential London. The hotel building still has some grand Victorian features (lovely staircase!) although nothing has been done to enhance this. Reception staff were friendly but not very effective. Breakfast was adequate. Room was clean, and beds were comfortable. Bedside lights didn't work.

The room was rather dirty - looked as if ant powder had been put by the sink. The windows were dirty. There was overflowing rubbish outside that the squirrels were searching through. Also, the bathroom was next to dining room, so had to pass the diners at 8am during breakfast service. Managed to book our room on pretty short notice but the accommodations were quite cramped. Our skinny twin room just barely fit us and the bags. Everything was very clean and well-maintained, but I wouldn't have wanted to stay much longer than a few nights. Neighbourhood is lovely and the location was convenient enough for day-trips into central London. […] Staff was courteous and friendly. The advertised free wifi is very inconvenient; their hub is in the office and they get guests to take turns sitting in a back room where the signal is strong enough to connect. If you don't feel like doing that, you can sit in the hallway. Not what we expected. As for the English breakfast, it was palatable but otherwise a little on the intimidating side for a North American traveller. We quickly switched to just toast and tea after the first couple days. Overall, it was the most economical solution we found in its neighbourhood, and that was enough for us, but people looking for a more classic hotel experience should look into something a bit more posh. I urge anyone considering staying here to avoid it at all costs. We woke up our first morning itchy and scratching, we had no idea until we moved the bed that the room had bugs, we caught 3 and put them in the sink, looked up pictures of the bugs on the internet which confirmed they were bed bugs, we then complained at reception, they didn't bother […] to come and look at them, they offered us another room. We set up our stuff in another room and within half an hour the bugs started showing up in their too, we have photographic and video evidence of them scuttling across the bed. No-one seemed bothered about the problem when we reported it. I am absolutely disgusted with our stay, even one night was too much, the rooms also had badly fitted and broken fixtures, were smelly and grubby looking, had dirty, stained bed linen and the showers had awful black mould in them. Please avoid this place, I wouldn't want anyone else to go through what we did staying here, spend a bit extra and go elsewhere. Read more

When I checked in I was told my room was a single with a shared toliet and shower - I was told this was how the product was loaded into Expedia. I am a travel agent and this seemed surprising as the hotel was self rated two star. When I spoke to the manager the next day, he said his staff had actually over booked and basically lied. The property was […] awful. The toliet for example was cracked and old towels were on the ground. The shower handle was rusted through and broke off in my hands. The only "inclusion" was a cake of soap. Apparently milk for tea and shampoo are "extras". I work for an youth travel company which uses backpacker hostels - they are better than this place.
