    very nice little hotel with a quirky little bar that was nonetheless a nice place to pause and have a drink in the evening. Very good breakfast included... with the room with a nice assortment of English breakfast items, cereals, coffee. Absolutely great location that is close to Paddington but even closer to Queensway or Lancaster stations which we figured out AFTER we had walked to Paddington a couple of times. Nice upscale neighborhood with closeby shopping and good pubs. I would stay there again for the reasonable price and location. by a Hotels.com guest on 03/06/13

    We booked this hotel more than 9 months ahead of our stay, so the pricing at the time was considered good for London. Ironically, at a hotel named for Henry VIII and located in London, the staff spoke mostly in Spanish. Front desk staff was not particularly friendly - the ladies were a bit better than the men. One day, a friend said he called and left […] a message for us to return his call. When we got back to our room, we found no message left on the phone line. So we inquired with the male attendant on duty - he INSISTED (in a rather rude manner) that no one had called. Sadly, this was not the only instance we encounted bad service in LON during our 7 days stay. Breakfast was generally good, however the restaurant was usually short of staff and therefore tables were not ready for the number of guests waiting at the door. The wait staff during breakfast, though rushed, were generally friendlier than the front desk staff. Read more

    The room was comfortable, very clean, and had good energy - I slept well. I was so pleasantly surprised by the quality of the hotel, and the professionalism of the staff. As a woman traveling alone, I felt safe going and coming to the hotel. The young men at the front desk were terrific, and more than helpful. I loved my stay there. I cant say enough […] about the quality of service from the gentlemen at the front desk - thank you. I only rated the comfort of the room at a 4 because it was so small. But I guess most rooms are small in London. It was inexpensive to use the room phones to call home (U.S.) which was a big plus for me, and free wifi and computor use to print directions and to check in and print airline tickets. It is also conveniently located between 3 tube stations which are just minutes by walking. and the bus is at end of street so I could easily and safely travel throughout London. I really liked the location. To see most of the sights I bought a Travelcard for Zones 1 & 2 for only 7.00. which allowed me to take the bus and or Tube (subway) throughout central london to see the major sights. Read more

    Room was so incredibly tiny that the bed took up the whole room. Tiny bathroom, poor upkeep, bad decor, awful breakfast. Indeed they even tried to rip me off by adding bar drinks (which I didn't visit) and a breakfast upgrade (that I didn't order). Avoid like the plague - dreadful hotel. Only consolation was the staff were nice.

    When we first arrived it was already 11pm, and we could see that our room number was changed from 004 to 218. Room 218 was soooo small that only if you are a "Tetris Game" master you will be able to open both suitcases, and walk around the room as a couple - we were not able, so when one of us was standing the other had to be either inside the bathroom […] or on the bed. The bathroom was so tiny that you hardly could move inside. On our second day we asked for a room change and were moved into room 003. Then we finally got a decent room, not huge, but with enough space for a couple. Room was clean and had a good shower. The bed was smaller than a queen bed, but it was good. Breakfast was quite good. In summary, overall we would recommend this hotel, but make sure they don't put you in room 218 (also applies for room 219, which we could see, by the rooms map, that was equal tiny size). Read more

Until two days before our departure everything was fine, the rooms are quite small and the hotel is expensive but being it London during the Olympics I do not think we could have done any better. The hotel was overall clean and pleasant. Unfortunately, my husband and son, occupying the room in front of ours saw a mouse in […] their room. The room was immediately exchanged but few hours later given to some unaware other tourists. We were told that everything was 'under control' but we were really happy to leave! The hotel is in a convenient location, there are 3 Underground station within 10 minutes walk, lots of restaurants and is close to Hyde park. Rooms overlooking the back of the hotel can feel the vibration provoked by the underground but it is not too bad. I have rated the Hotel based on our room experience previous to the mouse intrusion!     The room is so small and the hotel is right by the rail so you hear the train going by all the time. The windows are very high up and hard to close. London hotels in general are just too expensive for what they provide.

    we could hear the train running quite often. When I complained to the night manager he said he would change our room the next morning. He did and it was much better. Other than that we had a nice breakfast every morning. The hotel staff was very helpful when we had questions. The room was very clean.

    We paid for an air-conditioned room but did not get one even after discussing with the front desk. Three adults in a tiny room with no air-conditioning was very uncomfortable. Hotel doesn't honor what they advertise.

    The hotel is centrally located to everything. Room was large with 4 beds. ( two were attached) Staff were very helpfull. Breakfast was free and pretty good.. good selection. Shower was a problem... hot water took forever to come. and pressure was almost non existent. The building is old and quaint.     This hotel was fantastic for the price. Free bfast, free wifi (other hotels I looked at charged up to 20 GBP PER DAY for internet access), nice/safe neighborhood right near Hyde Park. Easy access to the Tube with 3 stops within a 10 min walk. Room was a little on the small side when compared with American hotels, but it had everything I needed, and […] was warm and comfortable. Staff was nice. And the floors were named after Henry VII's wives, which was a nice touch. There was a sauna and pool, too, although I never used it.     I booked the Henry the VIII Hotel on- line based on value. The rate included a full breakfast, in room coffee, and free WiFi. And the picture showed a "Hyde Park" antique white look of the building from the outside which appealed to my traditional senses. My single room was newly refurbished. I had a lovely balconied window with fresh white curtains, […] and plaid over drapes. The breakfast items varied from day to day but all were fresfh and tasty. The staff was friendly and helpful. The bus was two short blocks away, and there were grocery stores and restaurants nearby. All in al, staying at the Hotel Henry VIII made my first visit to London very easy and comfortable.     This is the WORST hotel I have stayed in ever. I can not imagine what else they could do wrong. To start there are giant tears in the carpet in the main lobby, hallways and stairs, that will trip you and foul your luggage...dark disgusting stains in the carpets and furniture. Bed sheets are worn out with pills. The walls are so thin you can hear every […] fart and sniff of your neighbor at night. The toilet in our room did not have a proper pipe attached (no S) to trap gases and did not flush properly, the shower had only half a door and then a curtain was thrown up to cover the missing half. The shower head was broken and had no pressure. Complaints to staff were dismissed with "come back later". I found the night guard sleeping. I saw the maintenance man tell the guard "I don't care if people are yelling at you, I'm not going to fix it tonight". I paid up-front for a week in advance but was stuffed into the smallest room in the entire hotel. The ceiling fan was dripping with dust balls. The window was chained shut but the room was suffocatingly hot. When I asked the front desk to move me because of noisy neighbors they told me the room configuration was "confidential information". I explained to them it was public knowledge printed on the map on the back of every door (due to fire code) and they just gave me a blank stare. I realized at some point the staff are nice enough but helpless. All the problems I found pointed to management neglect. I asked day after day for updates on my complaints and was told no one could find the owner and he is the only one who could do anything. Since I paid in advance I did everything I could to make the best of the situation so it would not ruin my trip. The cost of this hotel is outrageously high compared with better hotels all around it. You can go up or down any street and get a better deal. My loss, your gain. Don't stay here. Read more

    Went there on business and it was a good location. the hotel and its rooms are in need of a facelift and the single room was tiny with old furnishings. the breakfast was terrible. everytime i was in the lift i felt it may break down! the staff were nice enough but not outstanding.

    Above average hotel for the area, freindly staff, room a little small but clean, modern and comfortable bed. Breakfast leans towards contnental style as the owners are spanish. Eat out as they only do Bar snacks, loads of nice places, recommend Notting Hill Gate area for food. Would stay there again.

    The only disappointments were at the front desk. During one night, I became quite ill, and we had great difficulty getting any help at all from the hotel. The doctor's number they gave us was a recorded message, they would not call for us, and when we finally tried to call 999 ourselves, the room phone would not connect the call. We had to insist that […] they call us an ambulance, a procedure that could have been avoided with some minimal attention. Later, there was no follow-up, no concern for our well-being except from the cleaner who did our room. It is for this reason alone that we would not recommend the hotel to others. What I had was gastroenteritis, and that can happen to any traveller. Hotels have to be prepared for this sort of incident, and this one is not. Read more

    The overall experience in the hotel was very good. All the staff were very helpful and polite. All spoke English and Spanish that I encountered. Be warned the free wifi is terribly slow, I just used my mobile internet instead. Bit disappointing for the prices that the hotel charge. But it is a UK wide problem, not providing free wifi in hotels of descent […] quality, despite you get it for free in 3rd world countries these days where it is more expensive for the hotel to run a reliable service. On ground floor rooms slight noise from london underground in the evening, but windows double glazed and stops around midnight. Lack of visible staff on front desk at night. Only other criticism was the window latch was slightly damaged, so obviously hadn't been reported by the cleaner who did one time leave the window open after cleaning, which was a security risk on a ground floor room. The Breakfast was fantastic. Full range buffer, yoghurt, all forms of coffee, selection of fruit, cereal, crossants and other sweets, cooked breakfasts, different breads, hams, and more! And they even tried to wait on you where possible during the buffet to make you feel relaxed. The restraunt staff were outstanding. As were the reception. Considering it was a last minute buy, and we had one of the cheapest rooms in the hotel, and it all cost for less then a travel lodge room in london on these nights, for twice the quality.     I had a very pleasant stay and was there alone. The pool (which could do with a general clean around the tiles) was hardly used by other guests, so had it to myself a lot of the time - (there is also a sauna which I didn't use) it was also very pleasant in as much as it was not full of chlorine and it was a good temperature, reception provided towles, […] you just need to ask for them. Towles provided in the hotel are not huge, so some may struggle with that - having said that the laundry was very clean. The hotel on the whole generally lacks lustre but was comfortable none the less. There was free internet access, but it was very slow. The breakfast gave lots of variety and I had a single room which was small but adequate. The air conditioning was not working when I arrived so I asked for a fan and was provided with one and a few days later the air conditioning was fixed. I found the reception staff to be very professional and very helpful when asking for directions and help etc. I would stay again as it was very central and gave me everything I needed for a pleasant stay in London.     when we arrived we were put in a room that was obviously a single as you couldn't walk round the bed & both of us being tall our feet were hanging out the end of the bed. I turned on the tv and all the channels were in a foreign language so I had to retune it. Then when we laid on the bed you couldn't see the picture anyway as it was too high up on […] the shelf! We asked for a bigger room but were told they were full so would have to wait until the next day to be moved. We asked for a taxi to take us to the Albert Hall as we were going to a concert & the taxi driver was a private one that the hotel obviously uses & didn't appear to know where he was going even though the Albert Hall was only about 10 minutes away & then when I asked him how much it was he ummed & aaahhed & plucked £16 out of the air .     The hotel is OK, but should cost less. Room is very clean, but extreemly small. Bed is comfortable. Breakfast is nice and various, but restraunt is in the groundfloor, so there are no windows. We missed benches outside. The location is good: it's 3 minutes from metro station (central line) and 2 min walk to Hyde Park.

    I knew from other guests comments to expect a small room so i can't be surprised with what we got! The bathroom was fine and most importantly clean. Enough storage space for our items. Best of all a breakfast better than we expected - especially since few other hotels seemed to offer breakfasts.
