"Great location, poor choice in a hotel."
The hotel was a bit expensive for what you get. Our UK friends called it "posh," but we called it adequate. The linens were fine (you've got to get used to the fact there are no top sheets in use in most hotels). A duvet with a cover that's what they wash is what you get. However, the A/C was completely inadequate. The room never cooled down to the […] point where you could actually sleep under the covers (without waking in a sweat). Also, for the price, I found that other hotels in the area (and, there are a ton of them), offered free WiFi or limited-use free WiFi. Not the Marriott. Although staff had some ideas of how to maximize your GBP, it fell short of my expectations. We were pleasantly surprised with the full breakfast included with our stay. The air con in the room was VERY poor and I spent the whole night being excessively hot.The window did not open so there was no relief there. Whatever the star rating of a Hotel it can be badly let down by its location. In this case it really is. The better rooms overlook the central bus station a semi derelict Theatre and a few local 'drinking dens'. As a result opening the window to absorb the local sights and sounds isnt really recommended. The multi story car park is a masterpiece of […] minaturisation and there is no parking space which will allow you to open both sides of the car. It really is the smallest most difficult car park I've ever tried to negotiate. If your car is larger than a Focus ...or for that matter more expensive the risk of accidental damage is really a consideration.The walls on the corners and ramps are testament to this with layers of car paint and scrapes. There apears to be a 'hotspot' of crime around the Marriott. I sat in the bar with a few others for a couple of hours and saw the Police come through one door of the lobby and out the other on three separate occasions. To summarise...if you are traveling by train and have no wish to go out this is the Hotel for you. But..the staff were fantastic, the breakfast good and the room was good value. "Just a room and nothing more..."
I was exited when I booked the Mariott Liverpool City Centre, but I have to say that I was a bit disappointed with my stay. I expected the staff to be friendlier and the breakfast buffe did not reach the standard of a four star hotel. (there were a lot of empty plates that wasn't refilled and the variaty of food, bread, vegetables and cold cuts was […] not satisfactory) If the hotel had been cheaper I might have been satisfied but it was just when I had paid a bit more I expected a bit more. The wi-fi for instance is a "pay-by-the-hour" service that was too expensive, I thought about upgrading to a suite just to get the free wi-fi. Other than that it was clean, the beds were comfortable and the consigliere was very nice to us. The location is really great. When I go back to Liverpool I will try another hotel.
