The hotel is tired in appearance. The walls are torn, marked, and the floors do not appear clean. The bathroom did not have ventilation and therefore there was significant mold present on the walls and ceiling. Not good. The bedding and towels appeared clean and no other issues were noted. I would not give this hotel a 2* rating.

This hotel was run down and possibly the worst I have stayed in. The decor was dated and wallpaper peeling off walls and heavily marked. The whole building was in need of a huge makeover and the photo they use in the booking section clearly isn't what you get on arrival. Luckily I arrived late and set off early.

Reception - blunt & arrogant. The carpets throughout were filthy and worn. It was late when we arrived - 10:30, we asked about food and we were told to go to a take away down town. No glass In the bathroom despite the fact that it was double occupancy room - makes brushing teeth a bit of a chore. It was raining, our widow wouldn't close & there was an eve spilling down onto the open window. When we went to the bar, there were some people there,but after waiting ten minutes for service no bar person arrived behind the vacant counter so we left. Our business requires a lot of travel. We have to use hotels and lodges frequently. In full honesty, in our experience this "hotel" is down there with the absolue worst. Read more

First room was damp moved to another room after we complained. hotel had buckets as water as it dripping from the roof in corridors. We only stay for one night cancelled the other two nights staff were good tho.

Nothing about the stay at this hotel was good, Had we known it was in administration we would not have booked. The hotel needed refurbishing urgently and to say it was 3 star was not correct. The staff were trying very hard to deal with what they had but never would we recommend this hotel to anyone..It was just as well we only stayed one night.

Absolute joke !! Makes Fawlty Towers look 5 Star Firstly the hotel is barely sign posted from the road and even with a Sat Nav its easy to miss. As you arrive you see the tired and worn hotel looking that something from a 1970,s beach holiday. The car park is small and tight. As we arrived there was a wedding reception going on. Poor them !!! Drunken […] folk outside smoking and swearing around the door. Once in reception we waited 10 minutes for someone to arrive and eventually an uniformed lady appeared asking if we were "alright". Oh the receptionist had returned from her cigarette break. We were given our key and headed down the corridor with a carpet that should have been replaced years ago and held together in many places by black tape. The room was ROASTING hot, and could not be cooled down. The furniture was 70s style and worn out and unsafe. The shower did not work at all. The bath mat was mouldy. So at bed time window open to hope for even the slightest breeze to cool the room as despite asking about the heating we were told it was off, although every radiator in the place was red hot !! So to bed, roasting, and then the wedding reception kicked in, Disco and loud noise until gone 2am. Breakfast, into the dirty dinning room, again black tape holding the carpet together. Scruffy man points us to a table. Then nothing. Had to ask twice to get coffee, poor quality of re heated food on dirty plates. NEVER again Swallow !! Read more

I'm sure this hotel was very nice in 1984 which is around the same time any money seems to have been spent on the general upkeep of the hotel. Being on a business trip i chose this hotel for two reasons; 1. Wireless Internet at no extra cost. 2. Room service. The wireless internet was not available throughout the hotel, in fact it was bearly available […] at all... i found a spot in the bottom of a stairwell where i could just about get a signal, sitting on the stairs with a laptop is not a good look. Upon entering the hotel, and when in my room there was no mention of room service anywhere, no menu in the room etc.. There was a leak in the ceiling of the corrider outside my room... The TV in my room had very few channels and a very poor discoloured picture which i was unable to make any better. I would not recommend this hotel at all. Read more

I booked 2 rooms at the Swallow Hotel which we used as a stop over on the way to Scotland. It was fairly easy to find, but apart from that this hotel has little to recommend it. It is a typical 1960/70s flat roofed, long, low, brick and concrete hotel. No problem with that, but sadly it looks as if very little has been done to maintain the structure […] since it was built. The decor is very 80s, carpets worn, patched with duck tape and overall very dingy. Both bedrooms were similarly dated and the beds not very comfortable. My son's bathroom ceiling was covered in mould, while the bath sealant in our room also seemed to be supporting a rich, black ecosystem. Both bathrooms were very grubby. The towels were grey and small. The temperature control for the shower in our bathroom was broken. I think that providing a toilet roll that was almost completely finished is rather shabby to say the least. I have never seen such a small bar of soap or shampoo bottle. By the end of the stay we all felt rather grubby also. As another reviewer has commented, this hotel is in the hands of receivers and it really shows. One the plus side, the staff were friendly, if rather poorly trained and everything was very slapdash. The fitness room was actually superior to those in many much better hotels. We did not eat dinner in the hotel, but did have breakfast. I found it perfectly fine, but my wife was really put off by the look of the restaurant, again very run down. It didn't help that the person in charge of the room was wearing a jacket that was 2 sizes too big for him and covered in stains. I always read reviews of hotels with a sceptical eye and tend to give the benefit of the doubt to the hotel when I see vastly contrasting opinions. In this case, the naysayers are right. If you want a cheap stay with a decent breakfast, then this hotel is just about OK. Otherwise, avoid. Read more

This hotel is VERY tired, plenty of duck tape on the carpets! Not clean and very under-staffed. The night porter was also the barman and had to constantly leave customers at the bar to cover reception!
