"A smart hotel in trendy location"
The facilities here are very good; trendy champagne bar, big swimming pool, and range of free spa facilities such as steam room and sauna. Our only issue was being put in a room with a known heating problem, despite paying for the upgraded room type. We had a very pleasant stay at the Mercier, other than a noisy party who don't understand hotel etiquette and respect for other guests, but the hotel were very quick to respond and it was dealt with promptly. The hotel was in perfect proximity of the train station, restaurants, bars and other local stores. It was very pleasant to be greeted by friendly and helpful members of the staff and I was delighted to find that the room was very clean. However, as I anticipated to make myself feel comfortable, by running a bath to relax in, I was very disappointed […] to find the bathtub was filling up with yellow water (probable due to the lack of maintenance of the hotel's water tanks) which I then made the choice to have a shower instead. Having a shower was not pleasurable either, as the temperature fluctuated from cold to hot, and the towels were almost 'rock-hard', which felt so harsh against the skin. I have a specific £90 budget for a hotel room from my company, which the Mercure fitted. I was surprised to find - only upon arriving - that there is NO car park! I was offered a £23 valet service to have my car-parked elsewhere, or £6.50 for an NCP car-park nearby. Not ideal. This is a great hotel. It is new, fresh, modern and has everything you need in the best location possible in Sheffield. Whilst I sadly did not have time to use it, we took a look at the gym and pool - both looked great - very impressed. We worked from the hotel lobby on the Friday. We arrived very late at the hotel after attending a wedding, the check in was easy, our room was clean and comfortable, the breakfast the next morning was very nice. The check out was slow as everyone checked out at the same time. Mercure St Paul is in an ideal location for visiting Sheffield. Bright and modern and quite stylish, it's right next to the city's imposing Winter Gardens. Entering our room, we discovered the electricity supply had been cut. This was remedied in about 10 minutes. Rooms are clean and decorated in a reasonably contemporary style with good quality fittings […] and a fair degree of comfort. On the down side, the uneven carpet in our room needed re-fitting and the bathroom toileteries were in such tiny packages the combined shower and hair gel wouldn't have been big enough to wash a gerbil. Das Hotel ist wirklich sehr schön und gerade für einen Kurztrip sehr zu empfehlen. Die Lage ist perfekt! Schade das WLAN kostenpflichtig ist, für so ein Hotel nicht gut. Im Speisesaal und in der Bar zieht es sehr. Das war sehr unangenehm. Das Zimmer hatten wir leider 2 x wechseln müssen. Das erste Zimmer hatte ein behindertengerechtes Bad und war nicht […] sehr passend für uns, das zweite Zimmer hatte dann ein ganz kleines Bett. Beim 3.
