Latimer House

This is a jewel of a guest house. It is located a short walk from Lake Windermere in a very pretty little town. The owners – Christine and Gerd – personally run the guest house. Christine handles most contacts with guests – she is warm and welcoming, and instantly made us feel right at home. On the day of our arrival Christine was experimenting with […] baking since she is planning to serve afternoon tea. We were invited to sample her efforts (with a cup of tea, of course) and they proved to be absolute perfection. They will be, I am sure, a feature of the house praised by future guests. Christine served our delicious breakfasts with a cheerful morning greeting in the bright and friendly breakfast room. An outstanding stereo system played classical music, and the window looked out on a pleasant garden. Our room was not especially large but was clean, comfortable and well appointed. The weather at Lake Windermere was mostly awful, which made the cozy comfort of the guest house so much more important and welcome. We had chosen Latimer House in part because of the online reviews, and we add our votes to those of past guests who were delighted with their stay and found it excellent value for money. Read more

Outstanding service and attention was given by the owners throughout our stay. We were greeted by the offer of fresh scones and tea; a perfect tonic after a cross-country journey. The breakfast was amazing: beautifully prepared and a vast offering available. A great location with several restaurants nearby and never too far from a nice pub.

We had a lovely couple of nights at Latimer house. The owners are friendly and helpful but unobtrusive. Our room had a comfortable bed and plenty of storage space. We used it as a base to explore Lake Windermere and access is only a short walk. There are plenty of nice shops and restaurants nearby and a lovely independent cinema just 5 minutes walk […] away. Breakfast was delicious and served at a table in our room. My only slight niggle was that the en-suite, which had been retro-fitted to the room, was a little small and the handbasin was out in the main room though. It's hard to see how they could have done it differently, but it might not be to everyones taste. Read more

The breakfasts were fantastic and delivered to our room each morning and the room was comfy and spotlessly clean. The location was also perfect for exploring Bowness on Windermere by foot. Highly recommend latimer house. Tip: if you book a standard double room on Expedia it doesn't tell you there's no ensuite. The welcome by the oweners was warm and friendly. bedroom and en-suite was clean and tastefully furnished. A special touch was a beautifully cooked full english breakfast, served in your bedroom with pot of tea and china crockery. Location was excellent. This was an perfect gift from our family that we really enjoyed.

This guest house is situated in exactly the right spot in Bowness. It is both a short walk to the beautiful lake and also to the town of Windermere. We would recommend this Guest House to anyone wanting a nice peacefull relaxing place to stay close to the lake but not in the main part of the town.
