"What a GEM!!!!!"
I was dubious and wasn't expecting much after reading the reviews, I walked out the station and seen the hotel. The reception is large and the staff where welcoming, walking through the corridor was not the most pleasant thing but when I got in my room I dropped my bags and uttered WOW! People have complained about the noise but the proximity to the […] station you would expect to see and hear the trains. We stayed here as a group of six, check-in was very accomadaying ensuring all our rooms were together. The rooms were the most spacious I have stayed in, very comfortable beds and all amenities we could want in the room. "Lovely Hotel in good location"
I really enjoyed my recent stay in the Palace Hotel. The room was large, with a 20 feet high ceiling, clean and nicely furnished. The bar is a pleasant location for a drink and the bar food was enjoyable. "Palace Hotel - don't get a room near railway line"
We only stayed one night which was just as well as the room was right beside the railway line so combined with the busy Oxford road and the pub across the street, the noise level was high. I asked to change room but the hotel was fully booked due to the Man Utd game on the Saturday. The room was very warm so it was difficult to decide whether to close […] the window and suffer the heat or open it and suffer the noise. There was a Thermostat controlling air conditioning/heat but it did not seem to make a difference which way you turned it - it was hard to tell whether hot or cold air was coming out as the vents are very high up the wall. I had stayed there a few years ago also but was obviously on the other side of the hotel then as I had no similar problem and by and large the hotel is fine with decent service, food and rooms.
