Hotel is a bit dated and nothing fancy. But it's well kept, clean and has its own character with a bit of charm. They need to update the internet carrier for sure but no other real complaints. Staff is polite and helpful. I liked the older, low rise nieghborhood; one definately does not feel they are in a tourist area. Many small cafes and brasseries […] frequented by locals who are pretty friendly, even by non Paris standards. Moulin Rouge is nearby but far enough away that it's easy to avoid its seedy influence. "3 Poussins -- but only 2 stars in my book"
We spent three nights here in July 2011. It wasn't terrible, but I couldn't quite recommend it to others and I wouldn't stay there again. If we were in our 20's, it would be fine; Since we're in our 50's, it's just a tad too dingy for what we like. The location is pretty good (maybe 8-10 blocks down from the Moulin Rouge) and they have a very nice […] cat that sleeps in the lobby, both plusses. A couple of the staff were very nice; a couple weren't. Our main complaint was the shower was pretty bad. It really needed redoing, or at least a lot of Tilex. We didn't have the breakfast, but we did bring coffee up to our room. They charged us for each trip -- something I found rather annoying since I tried to ask and the breakfast attendant didn't speak English well enough to understand the question. The place fell pretty far short of the pictures here on the site. You kind of expect that, but this place more so than usual. There are a lot of cafes, bistros and restaurants nearby, which is nice. We ate at the restaurant (23 or 21 Clauzel) a few doors down and it was very good. Good food, good presentation and good service. It's a shame this place is a little too run down, because it has great potential. If they would spend a little money and refurbish it, it could really be something. I feel a little bad downgrading it because it had a few nice staff members and I really like the cat, but I just can't in good conscience give it the "thumbs up". It would put quite a damper on a Romantic Getaway. My overall impression is if you're young and carefree, this probably is a pretty good deal in a pretty good area for you. "Les Trois Poussins Hotel"
I'd done a lot of research on this hotel and really expected my stay to be just fine. In the end it was ok, but it got off to a really rough start. I was given the smallest room in the hotel, which included a single bed. When I inquired about this I was told that the special instructions which came from Hotels.com said Double bed, but that it's not […] guaranteed. After showing the hotel my confirmation which stated double bed - and even showing them that the website still offered such an option - they said I could have a double bed but I'd have to pay extra for it. I held my ground and was given a room with a double bed. However the room was a pit, there was a bug in the bathroom and the wireless internet, which I'd already paid for while I was waiting seven hours for check-in time to arrive, didn't work in that room. I accepted their single room so I could do the work I needed to do as well as use the web to look for things to keep me out in Paris instead of in my tiny Parisian room. The common areas of the hotel have been redone and are lovely. I'm under the impression that many of the rooms have also been renovated. However, neither of the rooms that I were offered appeared to have been redone. Upon my check out I learned that there are plans to demolish the room I was in and merge it with a neighboring room. I think this a wise move. Despite the smallness of my room it wound up being ok because I had access to a terrace which allowed me to greet the Paris mornings. The location is ideal, just a couple of blocks from the Metro and for those that like to walk it's also quite well situated. Just far enough to keep you on your toes. Good locatiojn and very convenient for Metro. Rooms small - so cat swinging presents difficulties. Hotel reception kept 'plugging' their prefered taxi transfer to CDG airport - insisting what a good deal it was. Booked this service - paid a deposit - got a receipt. Hotel in an ideal location, staff helpful and hotel kept clean. This traditional hotel is in a great location - you can walk there from Gare du Nord in 15 mins. We stayed in standard double and whilst it was a very small room (as all hotel rooms are in Paris) it was perfectly formed - bed was comfortable, it was very clean, bathroom was clean with a strong shower and lovely towels.
