Northeast of Place de la Bastille, this working-class neighbourhood is gradually becoming fashionable with younger Parisians. Trendy boutiques, cafés and bars are replacing the older shops and bistros, although some old-fashioned workshops survive. Modern was a really nice hotel! It was clean, and the room was actually a bit bigger than other rooms I've stayed it. The only downside: the neighborhood wasn't great, and it wasn't a great location. I have lots of experience of cheap Paris hotels, and I would rate this well above-average. Friendly staff, room and bath clean and modern, even attractive, though the dimensions of the room were such that the bed almost completely blocked access to the bath. Close to Metro. The room was on the top floor. Great view but very sweaty carrying all our bags up 6 flights of stairs. Only 2 towels for 4 people (we were told Mondays are like that) but the view from the top floor was very Parisian suburbian and wonderful, the bathroom felt luxurious for a 2 star hotel and the beds were very comfortable. My mum complained about the […] area initially but within hours we could see the charm of the area and the room was much more pleasant than our other Paris hotel also 2 stars. "Suprisingly a good place"
We were unsure about this hotel when we booked it at first, but we were desperate for something cheap. We were nervous about how clean it would be and if we would have a bathroom. We had our own shower, toilet, and sink! They came into our room every day to clean, and make the bed. We pretty much only used the room for sleeping, so we weren't around […] much. But the staff was helpful when we needed something! It was not the most comfortable, it was quite small, but thats how it is unless you want to pay an arm and a leg! Be prepared to use the stairs as there is no elevator (but it is worth it if you are able). Also, the metro lines that are within 5 minutes walking from the hotel will take you just about anywhere with one or two changes. We did not have high expectations for this place, but we were pleasantly surprised. It was not trashy, and it provided us a good safe place for three nights with the amenities that we really needed. "All good but beware the stairs"
Everything with the hotel was as it should be. The rooms were quite comfortable and clean. The water was hot and abundant. Io e il mio ragazzo abbiamo pernottato all'Hotel Modern per una settimana a gennaio 2013. Siamo stati molto contenti, l'hotel è collocato in una bella zona della città, relativamente vicino al centro e a 200m dalla Metro, da cui si può raggiungere facilmente ogni zona di Parigi. La nostra camera era al secondo piano, piccola ma molto ordinata e pulita. […] I servizi soprattutto erano puliti e in buonissime condizioni. La stanza è stata pulita e riordinata ogni giorno, gli asciugamani ci sono stati cambiati almeno una volta. La stanza era molto calda, anche troppo forse..comunque con tutto il freddo che prendevamo durante la giornata trovare una stanza calda al rientro sicuramente faceva piacere.Il personale è sempre stato cordiale e disponibile. Gute Preisleistung. Zentraler Lage. U-Bahn-Station ist sehr nah. Vorsicht wenn Sie sehr großer/schwerer Koffer haben, das Hotel verfügt über kein Aufzug und beim Koffertragen wird auch nicht geholfen. Das Zimmer war sauber und klein. Das Bad war ebenfalls klein aber renoviert und sauber. In der Bäckerei in der Nähe kann man sehr gut frühstücken für […] ca. 5 Euro. Für den Preis würde ich wieder dort übernachten. Abbiamo usufruito dell'albergo in tre (genitori più figlia). Lo abbiamo scelto sia per il prezzo che per la vicinanza alla metro. L'impatto iniziale non è stato dei migliori perché la hall dell'hotel (nonostante il nome dello stesso - "Modern") da l'idea di una struttura non nuovissima. In effetti non c'è un ascensore (ed i piani sono 6, noi eravamo […] al terzo), le zone comuni sono limitatissime (hall piccola, piccola sala colazione, scale per accedere alle camere) ed avrebbero bisogno di essere "ammodernate". Detto questo debbo dire che l'hotel era pulitissimo,il personale gentile e disponibile, la colazione semplice ma abbondante (pagata a parte), la stanza molto piccola ma con letti molto comodi, perfettamente tenuta e con il bagno completamente nuovo. Consiglio l'albergo per chi usa la stanza esclusivamente per dormire e cerca una soluzione a buon prezzo che dia la possibilità di usufruire facilmente della metropolitana che a Parigi è eccezionale. I was pleasantly surprised. There are some pretty terrible reviews on here, which I read before I booked. There are also many good ones and due to a tight budget I took a chance as any hotel of this quality will have it's down side. We loved this hotel. It was in a good neighbourhood close to most things in Paris (tourist attraction and party areas such as oberkampf) and the station was right by the famous cemetery of Père Lachaise where Jim Morrison, Edith Piaf, Oscar WIlde and many more are buried. The hotel was also very close to station and the staff was very helpful and friendly.
