It was excellent. The food in hotel dining room for dinner was quite good and the service was very nice. However, you could make the lighting much more appealing with softer lights and some candles.

The only bad thing I can say is that my room lacked good ventilation otherwise the hotel was great. The staff were kind attentive and extremely helpful. The hotel is also in a great location for either sightseeing or shopping.

Location was superb - bus to airport across small street - cost was less than 3 Euro for two people vs. 30 Euro cab fare. Hotel staff were helpful and knowledgeable with all questions. Would definitely stay again in the beautiful and charming city.

Great location, friendly staff that spoke English. We were given a handicap room (not that it was requested or needed) that was large and clean. The only downside was that it had an "inside" view toward the courtyard & dome over the lounge area, rather than a street view. Plaza de Moyua gave easy access to the bus lines (including airport), metro, walking […] distance to the Guggenheim and to Old Town. The Hotel Carlton overlooks a large turnabout roadway with a park in the middle. It is very close to many shops and restaurants. Taxis are very easy to find right out the front door. The rooms are decorated differently, but the rooms that we had were perfect for us. The decor took our breath away when we entered for the first time. The room decor was […] a modern black and white with a wonderful white chaise lounger, comfortable bed, awesome VERY large tub, etched glass, plenty of storage, safe, separate toilet and shower areas, hair dryer, desk, and chandelier. We all wished we were staying longer and will look for this chain in future travels. The staff was able to communicate well enough in English for us and for the most part were friendly. The only negative we had was the wifi as you need a kit from the front desk and it was not compatible with our IPad or laptop and the instructions were in Spanish so we never were successful in using it. The hotel is centrally located and an easy walk to most things in the city. It is located on a beautiful round about (rotunda) in the center of Bilbao. It is classically beautiful in an old world style. While we were given a smoking room, after requesting an non-smoking room, we found the room to be very large with a balcony that overlooked the street. […] We opened the french doors, the maids came and sprayed and the smell was not noticable at all. The other room our family had was newly renovated in a very classic ,but up-to-date style. Smaller than ours, but very nice. This is a really nice hotel and a wonderful location. That said, we felt slightly out of place as a couple of tourists--Bilbao seems to be more of a business city than a tourist destination. Everyone was very well dressed while we were in slightly rumpled khakis. At least we didn't have backpacks! The one thing we weren't especially pleased with was […] the cost of parking--24euros per day. But, we arrived in a torrential downpour and it was awfully nice to have our luggage unloaded and taken to our room and our car disappear to the garage! We walked all over, the best way to see a city, we think. The Guggenheim is an easy walk. We ate at a great restaurant, Sua, which was about two blocks away and we had breakfast both mornings at a cafe/bar around the corner, which was fun, seeing how the locals ate. Read more

Fantastic room with a MONSTER king-sized bed. Staff very friendly and helpful, all of them spoke English (apart from the chap in the parking garage, but the two of us managed). Parking is a bit limited and pricey. Excellent central position, 30 metres from a metro station linking you to the old town, and a 10 minute walk to the Guggenheim.

We were absolutely delighted with our choice of the Carlton hotel for a three day trip to Bilbao. The location on Plaza Moyua could not have been better for ease of travel to the airport as the bus stops almost outside the door. It was also walking distance to the old town which is full of restaurants and amazing tapas (pintxtos in Basque) bars. We […] walked to the Guggenheim and other places of interest. The area surrounding the hotel was full of lovely stores and numerous local cafes and restaurants - useful for breakfast if you do not want the hotel buffet breakfast. The hotel itself is beautiful. The sumptuous lobby and sweeping staircase reminds one of the grand old hotels of the past. Our bedroom was large, well-appointed, with a fully modernized bathroom. Some plumbing sounds from other rooms could be heard which might bother some people but it was no problem for us. Service, from the concierge to the cafe staff was impeccable. Sehr großzügige Räumlichkeiten Zimmer zum Innenhof war ruhig. Natürlich historische Bausubstanz, die aber gut in Schuss ist. Etwas laute Wasserleitungen. Dampfbad/Wellness war leider etwas sehr klein angelegt. Gutes Frühstücksbuffet, sehr freundlicher Empfang.
