"Very chic, very sexy hotel"
One minor complaint: the breakfast options are the same every day and they get old real quick! Room Mate Oscar is located in the Chueca district, which is Madrid's gay-district. It is situated in a very nice and open plaza, just footsteps away from great food and TONS and TONS of bars and clubs. The employees of the hotel are all attractive--even the […] women--and are very nice and receptive to your needs. They gave me a room on the 7th floor but warned me that in the evenings it can get a bit noisy with the foot traffic going up to the terrace level. I didn't mind at all because I was on vacation and I was going to be partying until the crack of dawn. The noise wasn't too bad and on two occasions we went up to the terrace to see what all the talk was about. Well, the terrace is also very chic and sexy. It was peppered with comfortable beds where people can lounge around and relax with a drink and some food. It has some great vistas of the surrounding community and the people were fashionably dressed--apparently the terrace of Room Mate Oscar is the place to be! I absolutely loved the hotel and its many amenities and would not stay anywhere else in Madrid. Madrid was very enjoyable and our hotel added to my trip. "Best location"
The hotel has the best location. It is situated in Chueca, next to all the gay bars and clubs, you are literaly less than 5 minutes away from everything. You can also easily walk to the city center (Palace etc..) in about 15 minutes. The hotel is well maintained and the service was great. Our room was small but well designed. We had a bad smell coming […] from the drain from time to time and the cleaning lady installed am air freshner to help, not great but we did not spent that much time in our room anyway...!! so no much a big problem for us. I would recomend that you upgrade to a suite as the room looked a lot better than ours. "Great locsation - Very Poor Venitlation"
If you're gay, this is a perfect location. However, be mindful that this hotel really needs some improvement in its ventilation system. We were there in March, 2011 and our only option to adjust the temperature was to turn the heat off. There was no air conditioning or fan. And the windows did not open. A lot of the time, we had to leave the room door […] propped open! We talked to the manager and they told us there was nothing we could do. The rooms also had very high end "looking" showers, but they did not work very well. Very hard to adjust temperature, water flowed on the floor and the shower handles got very hot from the hot water. Modern, fantastic location and the staff were excellent, particularly the receptionists. We had a slight problem with the level of noise on our first night, we were staying on the top floor, and the people leaving the rooftop bar were particularly noisy. We would not have minded as we are 21 & 24 ourselves, but my wife is pregnant and didn't have a […] great sleep which she needed. However, the staff were very accommodating and helpful with our dilemma and moved us, no questions asked, and even moved our belongings for us, ready in the new room when we arrived from our sightseeing tour. Rooms are not equipped with an iron but after calling Reception one was brought within 5 minutes - very impressive based on my experience with North American hotels. A close look at the rooms and furnishings indicates that they are somewhat whethered rather than sparkling new. Room Mate Oscar is a nice 3star design hotel in the middle of Chueca, and a few steps from Gran Via; location is perfect both for visiting and for enjoying restaurants and night life. We spent a weekend in this hotel becouse of its situation, close to Chueca and La Gran Vía. The situation is the best to me, but the room was chilled. I phoned to reception and they answered that the heatting engine was turned off and that they couldn't set it on only for our room. "If you are cold get blankets from inside the cupboard", they told me. The hotel is in a good position just off the Grand VIa and the roof terrace is excellent although drinks are quite pricy. The hotel bar downstairs is very gay at weekends. "Rien à voir avec les photos..."
Lorsque nous sommes arrivés on nous a donné une chambre avec deux lits alors que nous avions clairement choisi une chambre avec un grand lit. On nous a indiqué que l'on aurait du appeler avant alors que l'on a réservé plus de deux mois à l'avance... La climatisation ne marchait pas, la chambre était vétuste (bas de porte gondolés, tâche sur les rideaux, […] coup dans une des portes...). Après nous avoir dit qu'il n'y avait pas d'autres chambres et après plusieurs heures, comme la climatisation ne marchait pas ils ont fini par nous changer de chambre... La deuxième chambre était clairement mieux, mais loin d'être parfaite. La climatisation ne marchait pas bien, il y avait des trous dans les rideaux et surtout cela ne correspondait pas aux photos sur le site d'expedia qui montrait un hotel très design avec de grandes chambres, des grands lits, des salles de bain super classe.
