"Very chic, very sexy hotel"
One minor complaint: the breakfast options are the same every day and they get old real quick! Room Mate Oscar is located in the Chueca district, which is Madrid's gay-district. It is situated in a very nice and open plaza, just footsteps away from great food and TONS and TONS of bars and clubs. The employees of the hotel are all attractive--even the […] women--and are very nice and receptive to your needs. They gave me a room on the 7th floor but warned me that in the evenings it can get a bit noisy with the foot traffic going up to the terrace level. I didn't mind at all because I was on vacation and I was going to be partying until the crack of dawn. The noise wasn't too bad and on two occasions we went up to the terrace to see what all the talk was about. Well, the terrace is also very chic and sexy. It was peppered with comfortable beds where people can lounge around and relax with a drink and some food. It has some great vistas of the surrounding community and the people were fashionably dressed--apparently the terrace of Room Mate Oscar is the place to be! I absolutely loved the hotel and its many amenities and would not stay anywhere else in Madrid. Madrid was very enjoyable and our hotel added to my trip. "Perfect for a quick weekend in Madrid"
Stayed for two nights on way to Barcelona and couldn't be more pleased! The staff of the hotel was very welcoming without seeming stuffy. It's definitely a modern hotel that tries (maybe a bit too hard) to be anything but beige. Still, I'll take a funky lighting fixture over a paisley bedspread any day. The 6 EUR breakfast is definitely well worth […] it with everything from fresh juices to meats, cheese, and sweets. Meanwhile the WiFi is free and strong! Overall our stay was excellent. Being right off Gran Via (and the metro stop of the same name) we had easy access to everything we wanted to see and do in less than 48 hours. Of course the obvious drawback of such central location are the party crowds that inevitably flock there on weekends. "Modern but not prententious..."
Modern, fantastic location and the staff were excellent, particularly the receptionists. We had a slight problem with the level of noise on our first night, we were staying on the top floor, and the people leaving the rooftop bar were particularly noisy. We would not have minded as we are 21 & 24 ourselves, but my wife is pregnant and didn't have a […] great sleep which she needed. However, the staff were very accommodating and helpful with our dilemma and moved us, no questions asked, and even moved our belongings for us, ready in the new room when we arrived from our sightseeing tour. My wife and I really enjoyed our stay at Room Mate Oscar. We had a nice comfortable room on the 7th floor close to the roof top bar area. Staff were very helpful and decor was very impressive. "Hip hotel in a central location."
I'm from Amsterdam and work in advertising so I can appreciate something special. Especially when it's as good value for money as the hotels from the Room Mate chain. I have also stayed at the Room Mate Lola in Malaga and Room Mate Oscar gave me the same experience: the hotels have supercool interiors, are well maintained and situated really well. Room […] Mate Oscar is just a few meters away from the Grand Via, one of the main roads in Madrid. Nice places, clubs, bars and restaurants are within walking distance and if you don't feel like walking both the underground (about 1 euro) and taxis (7 euro will take you to most interesting spots) are really cheap. A 2 bed bedroom cost me 90 euros in August and an extra breakfast is 6 euros. The breakfast is way better than you'd expect for that kind of money and it is served until 12 a.m! Our room looked cool with wallpaper that had black and white photos of people. Maybe it was a bit minimalistic in the sense that the bathroom was pretty cramped and not too classy but it did the job. Another little shame was the fact that the TV only had Spanish channels. It would have been nice to have something international (English spoken) on there. The people working in the reception are young and fit the trendy interior of the hotel. They all speak English very well. Not something common in Spain! And last but not least: the hotel has a rooftop swimming pool! Admittely not one of olympic proportions but together with the hip lounge matrasses it's a really great way to relax and sunbathe between all the walking one does during a city trip. A visit to the pool does cost you 20 euros which may seem like a bit much.
