Next to the broad, tree-lined Paseo del Prado, the new extension at the world-class Prado museum is an architectural triumph. The well laid-out Botanical Gardens opposite the entrance are worth a wander and behind them lies Madrid’s green sanctuary, the Retiro park. Boat on the lake, stroll through the fragrant rose garden, and watch the terrapins sunbathe by the delicate Palacio de Cristal.

We were only there one day before going to Cordoba and being close to both the Prado and Atocha station helped us make the most of our day. The surrounding neighborhood is mediocre and solid food options are limited but the hotel itself was quite good.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great inexpensive hotel"
Location is superb, and the hotel is comfortable. It would be even better if it had an iron in the room and a little gym.Genuine Expedia guest review
"close to train station and metro"
Hotel was nice, location great. Took day trips so it was just a walk across the street to get the train. It was the most expensive of all the rooms we stayed in on this trip, (Barcelona, Valencia & Paris), but really my biggest complaint was that they charged for use of the computer. All the other less expensive places provided computers as a courtesy.... […] kind of a slap in the face to pay top dollar and then be charged extra for every little thing. Overall we enjoyed our stay at NH National very much. We loved the location. We were having issues with the WiFii services the first day, but they fixed it.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great location and price! Would stay again 100%"
A wonderful location nearby kapital (a famous nightclub) and the Prado museum. Close to las huertas, an area of bars and restaurants, and close to the atocha train and metro station. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable, going out of their way to help. The rooms were clean with basic comforts. I would certainly stay here again. Rather small room, well appointed, modern style, comfortable bed, well located, very good shower, very good heating. Unlimited internet access also a plus.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Good hotel for convenient location"
Great location, only couple blocks from the Atocha Train Station. Botanic Garden is across the street, next to it is the Prado Museum etc. There is a metro station just around the corner and bus stops are also across the street. If one wishes, walking to sights like Plaza Mayor is an option. The airport express bus stops at the Atocha Train Station. The […] hotel is well kept, very pleasing lobby area. The room and the bathroom are clean and pleasant. Only thing missing is a coffee maker or tea kettle. TV is rather small if that matters. Free Wi Fi but you have to get a different password everyday. Breakfast included and the choices are plentiful. Staff in general are polite but cool. Does not offer much information beyond your specific question. Because the hotel is located on a major street, expect some noises even when the window is closed. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"No frills but terrific location"
This is a comfortable, no-frills hotel with an unbeatable location. The rooms are on the small side but are well appointed, the breakfast buffet offers fresh, very good food. The location is amazing, however: just 10 minutes to the Atocha train station, 5 minutes to the Prado and the Reina Sofia museums, plenty of cafes and bars nearby.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Close to all the must see Madrid museums."
Great location with very helpful staff. Rooms are large and very comfortable. Hotel is within easy walking distance to Prado, Reina Sophia and Thyssen museums. And added extra is its close proximity to a very delicious museum— Museo del Jamon. Atocha train station and the Metro are also close by.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Family vacation"
Hotel was nice and the staff efficeint. Biggest complaint is that of a hotel of this calibre, and with the existance of free internet in the lobby, I had to pay to access the kiosk to print a boarding pass. The cost was per page for printing and timed for interent accessGenuine Expedia guest review
"Nice hotel, but wifi isn't free in the rooms"
It was a nice room and everything was clean and comfortable. I have 2 things I wish were different. First, having wifi in the hotel room is a must for a 4 star hotel nowadays and they wanted to charge for it. Plus they only allowed 30 minutes of free wifi in the lobby per day. This greatly limited my time to check emails for work and research our itinerary […] for our trip. Second, there is no concierge or area of tourist information in the hotel. The front desk was helpful to a point, but this is also a necessity that was missing. Again, the rooms were very nice, just a few key things that should make this a hotel worth visiting again. Otherwise we'll go somewhere else. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nh Nacional"
The service in the hotel was great. It is close to the train station and metro, and to the Prado. But if you like a little more action, it would be wiser to stay closer to the main plazas. Because it was quite a walk to all of the sights from the hotel. However, it was right next door to the 2 great museums and the metro and RENFE station, which was […] what we wanted. "Perfect location in Madrid"
Very nice hotel. Service was good. Room on the small side and you need to be on the higher floors to avoid the street noise. We were in a room the first nighrt on the 5th floor and had some problems with the bed and street noise. We relocated to the 6th floor the second day and the room was much better. The hotel is in a great location, convenient to […] museums, Atocha train station and also buses and Metro station. There are restaurants and cafes right outside. Very convenient. This hotel was in an ideal location. It is was very close to the train station and two of the biggest museums in Madrid. Ideal for catching an early plane. The only thing that I did not like is that the room was small.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"NH Nacional Madrid - close to Prado/other museums"
Initially we were given a room facing inside. But when we requested a room facing the street, the receptionist gave us a nice room with balcony a quiet, pleasant room. For inexpensive breakfast McDonald is just next door, There are quite a few eating places across the road. Great location - close to museums, buses and metro.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Great location to the train station, walking distance with our lugguage. We were only there for one night, but the surrounding neighborhood was great for walking and checking out all the restauraunts.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"NH Nacional Hotel - at the center of Madrid"
Excellent location with 3-5 minutes walking to the Metro, train station. Bus stops and Madrid Vision Tourist bus stop is right at the front door of the hotel. Rooms are of Adequate size but some of the furnitures are showing the age (the chair unhosltery and the cushions can certainly get some help !) Room had wooden floor but no area rugs or carpets. Bathroom […] are big and well equiped. No coffe or tea in the room and don't expect the iron/ironing board ! The lobby furnitures were really shabby and definitely needs some uplifting. Lobby has free wifi for 30 minutes. Front desk staff helpful and speaks managable English. However overall good value for money. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Fully Suitable inexpensive hotel & location"
First of all, one cannot book a 4* hotel and expect the Ritz! That won´t happen anywhere. You always get what you pay for! The place was surely once fancier, but it still has some sort of charm. Rooms are rather small and the only quiet ones have no view, but are surely quieter than the ones leading to the street. Sheets, towels and bathroom were all […] very clean! The location is FABULOUS if you want to be at walking distance to ALL major museums. The Reina Sofia is just across the street and the Caixa Forum-which always has good & free exhibitions is just half a block up the Paseo del Prado (by the way...the terrace restaurant is beautiful and has an excellent cook)!. The Thyssen Bornamiza is just 8-10 minutes and also the Prado. If you want to do the tourist hop on and off bus tours, those are great offers at just around €20 for 2 days, and those over 60, pay as little as €11!!!!!!!!!!! The stop is smack in front of the hotel! Free internet at reception for 30 minutes daily. If you aren´t fussy, the Museo del Jamon...has inexpensive breakfasts, but otherwise there aren´t many nice places to eat at nearby. The ONLY other place we quite enjoyed on the square before Reina Sofía (left)...called, Restaurante El Tres. Excellent FRESH FISH at only €20/ or menus at just around €12. Good service and good food. All in all, we certainly recommend this NH as a suitable, inexpensive, decent and well located place. Sure, it ain´t the Ritz, but you also ain´t paying it! GO and ENJOY Madrid! "Nice Hotel, but you should know . . ."
This hotel is close to the beautiful Retiro Park and the Prado and other museums. The rooms are clean, beds comfortable and the staff is pleasant and attentive. There is a buffet style breakfast that is good. But if you like to sleep at night, make sure to get a room that does not face the street and especially not on the lower floors. The level of […] noise (traffic, sirens, people yelling, etc.) is unbelievable and it goes on throughout the night with no let up. The free wifi is so slow that it is pretty much unusable. The premium wifi service worked well enough but is way too expensive. The login is complicated (you have to get codes from the front desk for each device for each 24 hr period) and the system logs you off after any short period of inactivity. There could be better air circulation in the rooms, especially in the ones that don't face the street. The water temperature in the showers was hard to control and water pressure was not so great. There is no real restaurant in the hotel--at least we couldn't find it. I think they have a dining room for large groups or for meetings but it is open only by special request. This is a real drawback. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good central hotel"
Nice hotel - void of some personality though. Lifts VERY slow given the hotel was catering to a number of large groups so for work I probably would not choose to stay there again. "Great location"
The staff at this hotel were very friendly and accommodating. The person checking me in actually noticed that I had booked a smoking room and asked me if I would like that changed. Was very thankful for that. I think when booking with Expedia you often get put in a smoking room as it has happened before. The only problem I have with this hotel is the […] fact it was filled with teenaged girls staying there with a tour. They overtook the lobby and slammed hotel doors all night. Also would like to say if want a quiet night don't go to Madrid! People are partying in the streets until about 6 am. This hotel is on a busy street and listened to people all night. This isn't a fault of the hotel but it will keep you awake. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

We spent 6 nights in NH Nacional, the service is very good, excellent breakfast, clean facilities, friendly staff and good location. The hotel is between two busy streets and next to a roundabout, so there is street noise even during the night, this might be problem for light sleepers. The hotel is quite near the metro so it is easy to get around […] Madrid. Atocha train station is in easy walking distance, with excellent connection to Barajas Airport for less than €3/person. "Ideally located for visiting Madrid's main art galleries"
The Prado, Thyssen and Reina Sofia galleries are all a few minutes walk away, but do not miss the Museo Lázaro Galdiano, which is a few stops on the Metro. The city sightseeing bus stops outside the hotel, but our experience of this was poor. The shady Real Jardin Botanico is right across the paseo, the splendid Parque del Retiro is nearby, and the […] Estacion de Atocha with its high speed trains to the medieval hill town of Toledo is across the square opposite the hotel. This hotel is adequate rather than luxurious or stylish. The staff are helpful enough, but the atmosphere is rather impersonal. Breakfast is very good but expensive - try for an inclusive B&B rate. The hotel's Internet is also expensive - to check in online use the agency 200m up Avenida de Atocha. Local eateries are rather mixed but local branches of Museo del Jamon and Faborit are great for a snack. The hotel does not serve dinner, so cut up through the side street towards Puerta del Sol for a fixed price deal. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

Genuine Expedia guest review
