The hotel was just as advertised for our needs. It was quick and easy walk from the Atocha train station, and walking distance of the central city park (Parque del Retiro) and into the central part of town -- we walked to Plaza Mayor and Plaza del Sol for dinner. The room was clean and modern, though travellers from the US may find it a little on the […] small side, though not overly so -- our bedroom was about 13x11 feet. We didn't try the breakfast, so we can't comment on that. However, there was a really great bakery/pastry shop about halfway up the street towards the station, on the left as you head from the station to the hotel. The hotel and facilities are great. Only downside is the loud road that has a stoplight with racing traffic all night long. I've stayed on the 4th floor and the 8th floor. The higher up you go, the better.

This hotel was a good price and extremely well kept. I really liked the hotel and room a lot, but there were a couple things that were annoying and would prevent me from giving it a 5 star review. First was the fact the the hotel was listed as providing free wifi. When I got there, I found this was true, but ONLY in the lobby/lounge. If you want WIFI […] in you're room, you need to pay and extra fee. I felt this was an unnecessary annoyance. They also have safes in the room, but it was not at all clear how to use it. It had a large key hole in the front that would certainly imply a large key was needed (which I was not provided). I didn't bother to ask about it since I assumed there was an extra charge for that as well. Usually the room safes I've used have a combination with instructions how to set it. Other than that, a couple small things that I must admit that I knew when I booked it. Breakfast was not included. When I asked about an airport shuttle, I was told that they didn't provide that. Fair enough, but if they don't have a shuttle service, it would have been nice if they provided a list of services that could be hired and perhaps even offered to book it. Read more

I arrived in Madrid at the train station and was able to walk a few blocks to the hotel very easily. Check in didn't go as smooth as I would have liked. The first room they gave me, 117, smelled like sewage. When requesting another room, I tried to be polite in front of other guests and asked if it was close to a smoking room. It seemed he knew the […] room had an odor when he practically finished my sentence by saying the room smelled. He then gave me room 514, which was much better, but the first key didn't work, so I had to get another. I was finally able to enjoy my free minibar (soda and water) and get out to see the sights. It was very convenient to walk to most places and to be able to take the metro back when exhausted (also at train station). The shower was a little strange. It had a glass door that only went halfway the length of the tub. It was a complete mess with every shower I took, no matter how hard I would try not to let the spray go everywhere- the floor was soaked. Stayed 2 nights at this hotel before travelling further south. A good quality hotel although a little away from the main attactions but accesssible by many means of transport within the vacinity. Room a little on the small size although very big bathroom with huge shower which was perhaps a little complicated to use. Everything you would need if you […] forgot your toilet bag, toothpaste, toothbrush, razor etc. Very large balcony overlooking the main street which didn't cause us any noise problems at all. Asked for a room high up (following previous recommendations on this site) and asked for a view to which the receptionist replied "of the sea" which made us laugh! The breakfast was comprehensive and well presented with friendly staff. It states that they serve dinner but no one was in the dining room during the evening so I can't comment. We had a slight problem finding somewhere to eat as most of the "restaurants" in the area are only in fact bars. The one we did use was just around the corner from the hotel entrance and the food was good although a little pricey. Tip - look for Meson and not Restaurant. We had a puncture on the morning we left and the reception arranged for a chap to come immediately and change the tire for us which was very impressive. Car parking is available a street away at a cost of Euro 14 per day or any part thereof. It would benefit the hotel to invest in some English TV as quite a few from the UK were staying. Read more

Just returned from a 15 day trip to spain and was pleased with my stay at the AC Carlton. The staff was very helpful and the hotel was convenently located to all the sites. 5 minutes walk to the train station. I stay at all the marriott hotels and was glad to hear Marriott has added the AC family to there brand.

Walking distance to the most places you want to see: Prado, Tyson, Sol, Opera, Royal Palace, Gardens, shopping and so on. Also close to comute centers: Railstation, Metro (subway). Very, very convenient. I took the subway only for airport and used the railstation for one day gateway to Sevilla.

Not too far from the Atocha subway/Metro station, but a little removed from all of the central action of Madrid. They gave us a strange room that had a window that opened up at the floor of a tiny patio with fire escape ladders. We were only there one night, otherwise I would have asked for a room that felt safer.

This hotel is in the lower part of Madrid by the Atocha railway. It is rare to find a hotel with free minibar and a reasonable priced breakfast buffet. The bed was comfortable in a decent sized room, the bathroom was clean and the toiletry gift bag was a nice surprise. A hairdryer was available which was nice since we did not have the electric adapters […] for 120Vac. However, there was no Air Conditioning so you would have to open the windows to cool off. The walls were not soundproof as with many of Spain's hotels so you could hear the neighbors TV but not enough to be a disturbance. Although there was no wi-fi in the room, there was a business center in the lobby where you could purchase internet time. Maybe not a four star hotel, the hotel overall is a reasonably priced hotel just outside the city center and accessible to all attractions by Metro. Read more

Very close to the Atocha station. But due to the construction, I needed to walk around the other side of the station. Took 5 minutes. I heard there were a super market which I could buy grocery but it was midnight. Some small street looked too dark and scary to walk alone.

The Carlton Hotel in Madrid has been nicely renovated. The breakfast is good. The rooms are stylishly decorated, though a bit small. The counter staff are very helpful in answering questions and supplying information. The free wi-fi in the sitting area is much appreciated.
