Barcelona's Old Town, the Ciutat Vella takes in the Barri Gòtic and the world-famous promenade of Las Ramblas. The former is the city's medieval core, a maze of atmospheric alleyways clustered around the splendid Gothic Cathedral. Quirky specialist shops and characterful bars and eateries abound. Don't miss the Museu Picasso and the Museu d'Història de la Ciutat, as much for their palatial settings as their content.
see all hotels in Barcelona"friendly staff, but dirty, smelly rooms"
The front desk staff were very helpful and courteous. The hotel itself is in a great location. It's only a couple blocks of la rambla, but still quiet. It's a central location which is why we chose it. I saw reviews that made it seem like a simple but nice place to stay. I was VERY disappointed with the room itself. We were expecting it to be small, […] but it looked, felt, and smelled very dirty. Everything was just grimy and had a very musty smell. The towels especially smelled disgusting, to the point where I requested new ones (the new ones weren't as bad, but still smelled pretty odd). Also, that first room did not have a safe, which seemed strange and made us a little uncomfortable. The air conditioning didn't work and the room was stifling. We left one of our keycards in the slot to keep it going while we walked around town, hoping it would be cool by the time we got back. Six hours later, the room was still stifling. We reported this to the front desk and they did move us to another room right away, which was nice. The new room had a safe (thank goodness) and was a little bit cooler than the first room. Still not a big improvement on the cleanliness or the weird smells which were all over the sheets and towels. Despite how friendly and helpful the front desk staff were, I couldn't help but feel that we had majorly overpaid for a room that felt about as clean as a run down, motel 6 or something on that level. It was really disappointing. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Mixed feelings, mostly negative"
The one and only good thing about this hotel is that it is near to placa catalunya where many of the shops are. However, despite the good location, it is not easy to find this place. It is inaccessible to taxis and the street name "duc de la Victoria" cannot be found, neither does any locals we asked know about this place or this hotel. Rooms are clean […] but old. I am a heavy sleeper, yet, was kept awake by the noise from neighboring rooms and at 6 am, noise from what sounds like persistent hammering and drilling. A check with the reception was met by a snide remark "must be people checking out, you mean you don't allow others to check out the hotel". I think anyone would be smart enough to know how to differentiate between checking out noise and persistent pounding sounds. Overall, I think one can find better hotels at the same price range else where.
