the hotel was hard to find, and in a bad neighborhood to boot. My friends (locals) who came to pick me up for dinner had problems finding it, and then warned me about all the thieves in that area... When I got to my room, which was kind of OK, in the bathroom the toilet seat was so loose it came off in my hand when I lifted it to sit down... the kid […] at the front desk could not find my reservation until I looked over the counter and saw it lying there myself... it was near the Gaudi Cathedral which I did want to see, but in the morning one end of the street was full of protestors and the other end full of policemen and the hotel in the middle... not going anywhere for a while... not a quality hotel, I would not recommend this place to anyone I like.. We chose this hotel anonymously because it was a bargain and because of the location. We were not expecting high quality after reading a number of negative reviews which said it was noisy and had an unfriendly staff. The staff turned out to be helpful and friendly and our room was quiet, though we kept the windows closed. The room was small, but livable for our two night stay, but the bed was two twin beds, made up separately, sandwitched side by side. Odd. We were not familiar with the room master power control via use of the door key/card, but once we understood the system, it was effecient and useful. There were no supplied wash-cloths. They may have been available had we asked at the desk. I should have taken a power adapter as there was no provision for use of a 110V A.C. charger. The included breakfast and facility was adequate and the servers very helpful. All in all, I think we got a decent bargain, but this was our first stay in Spain with nothing else to compare it to. This hotel is in a great location. The our experience with the front desk staff was hit or miss depending on who is there expect either indifference and annoyance, or a pleasant person. Our room was great, we were on the top, 6th floor and had a balcony area to the street. It was great! "Outdated, unfriendly and poorly kept"
I guess from the name I was expecting something a little more "Grand", this hotel was anything but. When we arrived at the hotel, dragging our four large bags into the lobby through a rotating door--2 capable men sat behind the desk, hesitant to acknowledge our presence. However, my room was ready upon arrival, which was a bit earlier than check-in, so that was very nice. We got to the room, which was a nice size, but everything in the room was so outdated. The television set was maybe one of the first color TVs ever made and had very poor reception. The blankets and comforter looked like they were 50 years old and were very scratchy. All the furniture was outdated. The room seemed clean, but after staying one night there my fiance and I both woke up with an itchy throat and sneezing. I was excited to go to Barcelona and get a good rate a four star hotel in a good location. Unfortunately when we arrived, we discovered that this hotel was not a four start. At least not by U.S. or most other European country standards. "Filthy hotel, noisy location, rude staff."
This hotel was VERY dirty. The bedsheets were unclean. When I politely asked the desk attendant for extra sheets and informed him of the reason- he first grunted. I am not kidding. Great location in the gothic quarter - close to shops, restaurants, landmarks etc etc. I walked to everywhere from the hotel - Los Ramblas, the waterfront, and so on. However there were some drawbacks - no internet access in the hotel - had me rushing down the road (400 metres) to Starbucks for overpriced coffee just to access internet for work - I […] was mixing work and leisure and wouldn't stay in this hotel if you're on pure business. I had a single room and although adequate to my needs, some people may find the smallness of the room a bit claustrophobic, especially as the window looked out to brick walls - a 2 metres x 2 metres light well. Other reviews complained of street noise and I did not have this problem which was once positive of the somewhat pokey position of the room. It was very clean, bed was quite comfortable, bathroom was good - almost as big as the bedroom with a full sized bath. Terrible television reception - if that this important to you, it would be annoying. I didn't eat breakfast in the hotel as it was pricey but there were lots of places to go for meals within walking distance. It was close to the metro. Overall a terrific spot to base oneself if you don't mind a small room and don't need tv or internet. Auf keinen Fall ein 4 Sterne Hotel. Unser Zimmer war nicht gut ausgestattet, man konnte nur auf dem Bett sitzen, kein extra Tisch oder eine separate Sitzecke, der Fernseher zu klein und zuweit weg. Kjæresten min og jeg bodde her utenom turistsesongen (i mars, ikke påske, ikke annen ferie), og vi har én hovedvinnvending: Her er det mye bråk. Har du rom på forsiden (ut mot gaten), bårker det mye utenfra. Har du rom på baksiden (mot bakgården), bråker det enda mer. På denne siden hører du vann og kloakk suse i røren, du får en formdabel ressonans […] fra kirkeklokkene like ved og du plages av et støyende vifteanlegge som slår seg av og på gjennom hele natten. Fordi vi ikke fikk luftavkjølingen til å virke, måtte vi ha åpent vindu (rommene var veldig varme da vi var der, selv om det var i begynnelsen av mars). Dette ble ensbetydende med lite og dårlig søvn. Minibaren er tom, hvilket er OK for de som ønsker å fylle den selv. Det finnes en salgsautomat i resepsjonen med litt drikke, men det er billigere å handle inn det man trenger ute. Hotellet er sentralt plassert, og personalet er hyggelig god gode i engelsk. Wir waren 4 Nächte im Gran Barcino und von dem Hotel sehr begeistert. Das Zimmer und Bad sind stilvoll renoviert. Wir hatten eine große Dachterrasse mit Blick über Barcelona. Das Hotel liegt direkt hinter der Kathedrale im gothischen Viertel. Alles bequem zu Fuß erreichbar. Wir hatten nur Übernachtung ohne Frühstück gebucht, gleich einige Häuser weiter […] ein günstiges Frühstückscafe. Ganz in der Nähe Tapas-Bars, Shoppingstraßen. In 5 min. zu Fuß auf den Ramblas, am Meer oder am Placa de Catalunya, an dem auch der Airobus direkt vom und zum Flughafen fährt. Wir würden sofort wieder dieses Hotel buchen.
