The hotel made for a great stay and was about 1km+ North of the majority of the tourist spots. If you want to be close but a little bit away from everything, I highly suggest it. I also loved the tapas resteraunt just a few doors east down the street called Catalana!

Everything was wonderful except the parking lot. Very small and unfortunately my car got a scratch that represented me 165 euros for a scratch that I didnt do it, but overall it was pleasant, good price and convenient to move around in downtown Barcelona.

Close to great sites in Barcelona. Service at the hotel was great, but our bed wasn't super-comfortable, and the design of our room was odd (split level with a very small bedroom area). All in all a good choice though.

There was a reason the price for my room was such a good value, the window was on a dark airshaft and the room was somewhat stuffy. They did offer me an upgrade at a reasonable price which a took after a couple of nights. The location was great for me, not in the middle of all the tourist stuff, but in an interesting neighborhood with a lot of interesting […] restaurants of variable quality (some were great). Small boutique hotel with unbelievable location. Walking distance to the University area, Passeig de Gracia as well as Plaza Catalunya and the Rambla area. Excellent choice of restaurants within three blocks and swift access to the Metro to get you to further out destinations such as Park Guell or to the Plaza Espanya to catch trains to nearby towns […] such as Montserrat. The staff was courteous and friendly and the room was clean and comfortable, although there were some signs of wear. The hotel was equipped with a restaurant, a pool and hot tub as well. Our flight arrived early and the front desk allowed us to check into our room well before the official check in time of 3PM. In addition, we were allowed to leave our luggage after check out, since our flight didn't leave till late at night. My biggest issue was in fact a minor concern-- in that some keys were stuck on the keyboard on the one computer for guest use in the lobby. The decor of the lobby is very interesting and the staff is pretty friendly. The room was quite small w/2 twin beds side by side to each other but that has more to do with layout. Odd thing is the bathroom didn't have a lock and this room is designated for 2ppl, so we joked that this is a way to test the "honor system" btwn the 2 ppl staying there. […] All in all we were happy b/c our intent was to stay in the hotel as little as possible...sleep only and the beds were comfortable so it served its purpose. This is our second stay at the Balmes. The staff was exceptionally helpful. Although we had a nicer room for our first stay, the room was clean and comfortable. The Rambla is a five minute walk. It is also not far from The Plaça de Catalunya. They have a lovely pool area that was very refreshing.

This hotel is close to all of the action without being in the middle of all the noise and hustle bustle of the tourist areas. It was pretty quiet and there are some cafes around the corner as well as a little grocery store. We stayed in an Executive room and it was small but very comfortable and had a huge patio. The tv stations are very limited but we didn't spend much time in the room. There is an ATM machine on the other corner. I think this is a perfect place for travelers staying for a few days. Overall I think the Balmes is a fair choice. Be aware of loud plumbing as well as horrid accoustics/echoes from hallways, less-than-clean coverlets on the bed, NO WASHCLOTHS (not uncommon, but if you use them, bring some with you) and charges on your final bill for breakfasts you didn't have!

A very pleasant, modern hotel but our bathroom needs a bit of refreshing. Its convenient to many restaurants and cafes and not too far to walk to Plaza Catalunya for the Aerobus to the airport. Overall, we had a very pleasant experience at the Balmes. I cannot stress enough how great the location is, we were able to walk everywhere. There are several great restaurants nearby as well as boutiques for browsing. Having access to a pool was very nice and the room was fine. Staff were helpful and friendly, the room would have been exelant for a coulpe but with three of us it was a bit of a squeeze, and the third bed was a sofa bed witch was a disappiontment, and the room being on the ground floor next to the exit on to the pool terrace was a bit niosy. This was unfounded 5 - 10 minutes walking was the Metro, Catalunya square was 15 minutes including La Rambla. To walk to the waterfront was only 25 minutes. We found the hotel to be of a very good standard in all aspects, facilities, cleanliness, comfort and service. It is located in a very good area, close to but not in the main shopping and restaurant areas. It is very easy to find your way around there. We had breakfast there which was very good with all fresh produce and staff very willing to keep dishes […] well supplied. We asked for help from the reception staff for directions, tickets for the tour buses and getting stamps and they were always curteous and very helpful. The shower was very good and when you ran a bath it took very little time to fill and hot water was plentiful. The rooms were cleaned to a very good standard every day. We did not find the rooms to be very noisy as was reported by some on the website. The only down side of our stay was the fact that the room was too hot although the weather was quite cool when we were there. In fairness we did not complain about it to the staff so they did not have the opportunity to rectify this. Good hotel in excellent location handy for shops, restaurants and transport. Used airport train, got off at Passeig de Gracia, hotel a short stroll from station. Upgraded to executive room which was worthwhile as room and bed were bigger also room had a private patio area with table chairs and loungers.
