They mixed up my rooms and made me move during my stay; i did not have lotion or conditioner in my room and had to buy some, they did not have change for dollars at the front desk, but the beach was very nice.

So we (myself and my 3-kids – 21, 19, and 17 year old) stayed at this resort the week of 12 Aug 12 (8-days). It was a 30-minute taxi ride from the airport, which was quick considering the roads and local small town areas that we went through. The hotel itself was clean but it had the older outdated feel to it, but teenagers had no idea what it was supposed […] to be like in Dominican Republic; thus for this area it was a good hotel (2 to 2.5 in US standards). The grounds were kept neat and clean at all times as well. The food, was better than expected. Our family is always looking to try something new, and though the looks of the food at times didn’t look that great it always tasted better than expected. They really did have a good chef that made everything taste good every meal and every day. That’s some of the good, the bad was the rooms. They were worse than expected. I thought sharing a room with my son would be that we had two queen size beds. That was not the case, they push two single matrices together to make a big bed. They really were some of the worst matrices I’ve ever slept on. Even the kids had back aches from the beds. We solved that by having an awesome massage a few times. The rates were great at $50 and each of us took advantage of curing our back aches multiple times. The liquor selection is the typical cheap all inclusive liquor that your sick of by the end of the week, but still worth it. Read more

The great part of the hotel was the pool/beach area. The food was ok but during the day there was not enough selection. The rooms were very disappointing. Lovely hotel and staff, very good selection of food, some of rooms older than others but cleaned every day and supplied with bottled water, miles of beach to walk along with plenty of activies which are pushed by reps, make sure you take insect repellent, we had problem with insect bites on feet. VIK Hotel is a beautiful Hotel. We had a room on the 1st Floor right accross the beach. The Pools are very nice. Food is good. Entertainment is ok. Service can be better. My TV was not working properly and it took them a day to come and fix it. First night we found a couple of hairs in the bed. Also, don't waste your time with the time share, it's expensive and if you are broke or have other plans, it's not worth it. The lack activities on the premises, the friday and saturday night show was the best, mamajuana is the drink of choice or the beer. There wasn't a problem finding seats on the beach, the club on the premise wasn't great at all, they lack variety. The bartender on the calypso bar was very nice and helpful. Upon arrival they couldn't find my name in their paperwork, because they don't use computers for such thing as reservation. It took well over 20minutes, because they were also helping other guests with questions-no lines! The room was of a decent size, but definitely needs updating. The walls are stained with dead bugs. The toilet in my room decided to overflow, which took over an hour to get fixed and even longer to get cleaned. I checked in on Monday and my room has not been cleaned thru Friday when I requested it be switched. The maids will come to your room in the morning and take all your towels, leaving you with nothing. You'll get them back around 4p.m or they might forget and you will need to go to reception for them. The hotel is full of our fellow Canadian neighbors that don't really care that you're there to relax and sleep sometimes at night. Out of 10nights of my stay, there wasn't one that was quite. Rooms have paper thin walls and you can hear people next door as if they were by your side. Restaurants serve same food 7days a week. You might considering going on a diet upon arrival! They also look more like diners and not restaurants. Never a clean table to seat at, and never enough silverwear to eat with! By the time you get those two you're disgusting dinner will be cold! The staff at this hotel was amazing. We had a favorite bartender, named Felix, that we tipped on our first day and he took good care of us. Drinks are not as strong as at a bar in at home but you can have as many as you want! He even set us up with some coconuts with straws from one of the gardeners! Other staff we met included Obama and Joel, who were […] front desk staff that set us up with a room change upon request (we had reserved a family-style room, but decided that it was too large and far away from the ocean, so they moved us to a new, smaller room on the ocean front!), and Frankie, who was our bellman for the room change. They were all very friendly and funny and happy to answer all of our questions. The maid service was great (they even folded our underwear if it was left on the bed), and they put our toothbrushes into cups so that they would not be left on the counter. We managed to get umbrellas on the beach every day, even though we did not get down there until about 8:30 or 9. The towel service/sporting people were very nice-as advertised, you can take a kayak, snorkel, or go on a guided hobie cat as part of what is included. We did not do any additional tours. The beach was gorgeous, and in our opinion the best section of all the resorts. Food was decent-though not what you would get at an expensive restaurant, there were plenty of choices and the buffet was clean. The sit-down restaurants were good. We should have checked to see if the hotel had an elevator because everyday several times a day we would have to climb three flights of stairs to get to our room. Good points Grounds and pool area are very attractive with many sun loungers provided here and also on the fantastic adjoining beach. Rooms are spacious and airy, and the eventual sea-view room we were allocated (block 5) was clean and had a superb view directly overlooking the beach through the palm trees to the turquoise sea beyond. Food was plentiful […] and we found it best to eat in the buffet rather than the other restaurants, where there was a huge choice. Not so good points:- On arriving at the hotel after a long journey, found that the sea-view room which I had booked was unavailable for the first night and this was only rectified after several trips to the reception desk the following day. Personally found reception staff to be a little too laid-back bordering inattentive. Rooms could be sooo much better. The 'delux' room we had for the first night, despite its more recent and modern decor, had a very 'slapdash finish to the paintwork/tiling. The sea-view room was tired looking with an ill-fitting balcony door which let in water after torrential rain. After one days excursion and leaving the hotel grounds, realised that there is nothing much to see/do within walking distance of hotel. - However as this was a one weeks holiday of R&R for us, it suited our needs. One last point - save some US$ for the airport where they charge $20 per person on leaving. ($10 each on entry as well!!!) To sum up see the title. Read more
