I had a great time.... close to golf courses, nightlife, shopping centers and the airport. I booked a tee time at Cocotal Golf & C.C. and was picked up and dropped off after my round. The course is 5 min. from the resort. The staff was very friendly and helpful and made me really feel at home. There is a business center for computer access(there is […] a fee). My room rate was $65 per night,so the value that I received was excellent. I drank and ate more than my room rate daily. There is a bar right on the beach that you can get alcohol and non alcoholic drinks at. The casino is small however you can still have fun ( I played B.J. 21 and Roulette). The resort itself was nice. However my biggest problem was with the staff. This resort will not left anyone on past 11pm even if you wanted to pay for a day/night pass for him/her. They hassled me about parking. Apparently, sometimes you can park in one lot but not at other times. We had a Jr. Suite but the 2 beds were only full size. My husband and I were very uncomfortable in this small bed. Each time the people above us used the water our shower and above our jacuzzi dripped water from the ceiling. For the money the hotel, resort and restaurants were decent. By far the best were Wasabi's Japanese Steakhouse and Italian. We tried the lobster and Barcelo does not cook, or serve this well. We found this through trial and error and learned it was not worth the premium of between $15 and $50. Room internet was limited and the purchase of weekly service […] at $30/wk was adequate. Be careful as Barcelo contracts to many tour companies that work on the resort and charge varying prices. Check them out and ask other guests at 8AM in the lobby when all tours usually meet. I reserved a king bed, arrived at the hotel and we were checked into a room with 2 full beds. We immediately called the front desk, they said the hotel was full and they had no more king beds. So we made the best of it and at least pushed the 2 beds together. It took us 5 days to get 2 blue beach towels. They give you a card per person and the card […] is good for one pool towel, every time we went to get a towel "they were all gone" so on day 5 of no beach/pool towel we had to flip out which is very uncharacteristic of us, I myself have worked in hotels and I was appalled with the hospitality. The restAurants are reservation only, you can only make same day reservations and almost every day but 2 days all of the restaurants were booked and we had to eat at the buffet every day. Our shower head broke, that took an entire day and 6 phone calls to fix. Our safe broke twice, once was when my engagement ring was in there and my fiancé was going to propose but couldn't get to my ring because it was locked in the piece of crap safe. No one speaks clear English, a few did and were helpful. I can thankfully speak Spanish but it was very hard to understand what they were saying. We booked the trip through Expedia and I can honestly say that they were excellent. They had an employee, Paul at the hotel every day if we ever had questions or problems, he helped fix them. The facilities are in very good conditions so if you worry about not going to a place where things look worn out and raggedy then this is a good place. The phone never worked I reported it three times and they never fixed it, so evertytime I needed info I had to walk to the reception desk (not close to my room) I even had to do this the time water was […] coming down from the roof and the bathroom was getting flooded ( they fixed right away) . The All-Inclusive term is somehow a catch, the stay the food and the drinks are included but nothing else, they have a spa and masseuse but they charge for it and it is not cheap compared to the US, one thing A very bad thing is that the wi-fi is not included and you can only pay for it daily and that is $15. There is no tours included so basically if you want to have fun you have to spend money. The club at the hotel from 11 p.m to 2 a.m is nice but local people dont have access to it. The juice taste like water same thing about the beer so I think they put a lot of water to have more quantity. The food at the buffet is good and they have a lot of variety. They give you a card to get a towel if you lose the card you have to pay $20. Once I went to the beach and they had me waiting there for about 20 minutes because they did not have any towels. The beach is nice and clean. One thing I forgot to check is the transportation to the hotel they don't offer anything for this so you have to find and pay for your own taxi wich is around $33. Arrived at night....not able to see the slum that was outside the gate....however you are oblivious to it while on the property.... My spent most of my first day trying to get into the right room. Then the lights in the room did not work. I was not informed the different restaurants that I could eat at until I asked. They did not switch me to the right room until the next day at about 4pm. Staff is not friendly. They do not explain basic info accurately or don't explain it at all. For example, they never told us that in order to get our beach towels we needed to get them early in the am as they are all gone by or before noon. Hotel was nice. The highlight of my 1 week stay was the excellent tennis pro, Cornelio. He is an excellent tennis instructor who can improve your game with 3 lessons. Pillows in room smelt disgusting. Air conditioning failed to work or be repaired after reporting it 8 hours earlier. Poor customer service - staff showed no job satisfaction. Well, where to begin.. our bed was 2 twin size frames pushed together which provided a very obnoxious noise when trying to get intimate. The mattress was stiff, old, and filled with holes. There was no fitted sheet and the sheets that were on the bed were stinky. There were three lights in our room, two didn't work. the toilet didn't flush and the shower […] didn't drain. The TV provided in the suite sounded like it was going to catch on fire. After checking into the room we attempted to express our concerns at the customer service desk in a polite manner. Initially we were redirected to another person and to come back at a later time. When we returned, we talked to the same manager, Cristina, who began to wave her finger and reply with such comments "you paid for a standard room!" and "if you want a nice room take a bus 20 min up the road." During our hour long conversation she did not appear to care nor did she listen when she was yelling to other staff and answering the phone. She did not accommodate us in a acceptable manner. This hotel should not be labeled as "All Inclusive" when it really is not. You had to pay for wine at their specialy restaurants, pay for coffee at the Coffee Bar and worst of all you had to pay for thier top shelf liquor which is pretty much ALL Liquor except thier Barcelo labeled liquor. This hotel is very outdated and not well kept, service was horrible […] you almost had to beg for your drinks and overall service even after tipping the staff. Staff was not very friendly and not accomodating to your needs when requested. Their buffet was very skimpy and food was very unflavorful. Pools were very dirty and their lounge chairs very old.
