"Careful: possibly running a scam with breakfast"
I recommend avoiding the "breakfast lounge" at all costs. Even though they set a place specifically for your room, never inform you about the cost, never ask you to sign something, you will suddenly find an additional charge on your bill for 15 euros per person. In my case, they significantly overcharged me (for breakfasts I never even went to the lounge […] for) and the staff was unfriendly, implying that this sort of thing happens all of the time and that they are usually successful in squeezing payment out of guests (they already have our credit card info). Other than breakfast: the location is very close to the university an reasonably quiet. The rooms can get very hot and stuffy in the summer, please note that there is no air conditioning. The internet works poorly, the code that they give you seems to expire at random and the registration desk is rarely open (even for a 7AM check out), making it difficult to get a new one. "Pretty darn good hotel."
Hotel OTTO is a great choice for non-German speakers. The staff has excellent English and is incredibly friendly. The WiFi works. The comfort rooms are spacious and well-maintained. The location is pretty solid. The breakfast may be 13 euros. But, wow, what a breakfast. There are the standard German sliced meats/cheeses, lots of heavy German bread, […] a cereal/granola/yogurt area, a hot section with eggs and sausage/bacon, and a weekly special area with cycling contents. Add in a table of tea, a selection of awesome juices...we were happy, and ate every breakfast in the hotel. They probably deserve a five rating on everything, but I dinged them a point on comfort and cleanliness mainly to highlight that German hotels have slightly different standards than other places. The bed is hard. Because it's a German/European bed. There's no fan in the bathroom. There's no air conditioning. The staff doesn't pick up empty bottles unless they are near the trash can. We came to Berlin for watching two operas by Deutsche Oper and had stayed in Hotel Otto for three nights. We had enjoyed the rooftop afternnoon tea, desert and view so much. Too bad! we could not get up early enough to have any breakfast due to attending long performances at night. The hotel is very clean, modern, cozy and staff is very helpful. Lå 4 netter på hotell Otto og er godt fornøyd. Rolig hotell (vi hadde rom mot bakgården). Utrolig god frokost med veldig godt ferskt brød, rundstykker, croissant, pannekaker, egg, bacon, pølser, frukt, müsli, youghurt, ost+++. Supert område. Mukava ja siisti hotelli hyvien kulkuyhteyksien äärellä. Lentokentältä pääsi bussilla aivan hotellin viereen ja metrobysäkki oli niinikään lähellä. Ainakin huone sisäpihan puolelle oli rauhallinen. Mein Zimmer im Hotel Otto war trotz der zentralen Lage sehr ruhig und komfortable. Das Frühstücksbuffet ist reichhaltig und frisch und die Angestellten ausnahmslos freundlich und hilfsbereit. "Super, centralt hotel som vi helt sikkert vil besøge igen"
Hotellet ligger centralt i Berlin med kort afstand til bl.a. shopping på Kurfürstendamm, KaDeWe, osv.. Tæt på ligger teater, operaer, museer, restauranter, og butikker. Der er heller ikke langt til S-Bahn og U-Bahn (2 min. gang). På trods af den centrale placering ligger hotellet på en rolig gade, så der er ingen støj! God og meget varieret morgenmadsbuffet […] serveres på 7. etage (med tagterrasse), hvor der er udsigt udover Berlins tage. Om eftermiddagen fra kl. 14 og til kl. 22 om aftenen serveres der GRATIS kaffe, te og kage/frugt på i restauranten på 7. etage. Ligeledes tilbyder hotellet gratis flasker med vand til værelserne. Rigtig god service i receptionen med info om transport i Berlin og blev tilbudt vandflasker til turen hjem i bil. Parkering koster kun 10€ om dagen i hotellets baggård, som er aflåst om natten.
