"rats in the bed at El Establo"
we are retired Australians travelling the world, we have stayed in around 40 hotels this year alone. This El Establo was the worst place we have stayed. Apart from the noise, appliances not working, poor food and no coffee/tea making machine in room as promised in the brochure. When it came to sleeping, I pulled the top pillow from bed to find 5 BABY […] RODENTS curled up in the bed. We did not stay the intended 3 nights and the manager who was to speak with us in the morning was unavailable. They have ignored our communications to them and I imagine they are hoping we will go back to Australia and forget all about it, this was not a cheap hotel. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"El Establo-NOT RECOMMENDED"
I would not recommend staying at this hotel. The view is fantastic and that is it. The room's walls were so thin we could hear every noise that our neighbors were making from bathroom to sleeping to conversation. This made us very uncomfortable. The food and breakfast reminded us of an elementary school cafeteria.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Gorgeous view - great facilities - excellent staff"
Beautiful hotel in an excellent location (easy walk from a couple bakeries and restaurants; 15-20 minute walk from 'town') in Monteverde. The tour desk couldn't have been more helpful; the room was beautiful and overlooked the hillside, the mountains, and sunset; comfortable bed. It was a great experience - we would definitely recommend.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Made the trip!"
I made the reservations without knowing much about this hotel so I was a little concerned. But what a great place. Great location, great room and friendly people. The concierge was so helpful in planning excursions and dinner suggestions.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Beautiful/comfortable rooms, OK/marginal service"
Overall we recommend this hotel, although we do have some constructive feedback for them or information for anyone considering a stay with them. First, you definitely have to give credit to how nice the rooms and resort area are in general. The beds were very comfortable and we were extremely happy to have such a relaxing place to return to after long […] day hikes and the other activites we did each day. The resort itself is huge; it includes 2 pools, tennis/basketball courts, 2 restaraunts, spa, and its own canopy/zip-line area and hiking trails. These alone easily explain the 4-star status, and make it a destination that is comfortable for a family or anyone not wanting to be too adventurous and explore outside of the hotel. The zip-line/canopy tour and night walk were very reasonable priced -- we paid $45 each (student price) for both combined. Where we would offer criticism is with the service and staff. We definitely encountered a few very helpful staff, although many were much the opposite and didn't offer much of any advice about hotel amenities, activities to do in the area, and/or other things to see. We stayed at 2 other hotels on our trip to Costa Rica, and this hotel had the worst service. When we asked about transportation to Monteverde Reserve, the staff member who was helping us had no advice -- there was no shuttle, it's a 3 mile walk (which we did!), and otherwise your option is taxi. To follow on these poitns, on our whole trip we felt exceptionally welcome and had great interactions with everyone...but it was less so at this hotel. We definitely felt that their focus was on volume, and less-so on customer satisfaction. Also, it's nit-picking, but some of the charges we considered unreasonable -- i.e. charging for security box usage in the room ($35 USD), charging for wifi (per 30 min session), and the cafeteria feel (but high prices) of their primary restaraunt. At the room price and 4-star status of this hotel, many of these things should have b Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Hermoso Lugar"
