"great staff, perfect location, beautiful garden"
I very much enjoyed my stay at the Bamboo Garden Hotel - the hotel was just perfect for me - an oasis in the large city of Beijing - looking forward to stay there againGenuine Hotels.com guest review
As others have mentioned, the concierge was not very helpful. The hotel is set back in a hutong and so you have to walk quite a bit if you want to find a taxi. The hotel cannot/will not call a taxi for you. They send one of the boys who man the front gate out to the main street with you to hail a taxi. They did arrange a driver for us to the Great Wall […] and to the airport. Have someone write down the name of the main street that the hutong is off of. We had difficulty finding taxi drivers who had heard of our hutong and I think if they knew it was off of the main street, it would have been much easier getting home after dinner. The garden and the decorations are beautiful. It was always nice and quiet. Our room was clean and the AC, etc worked well. Overall, we were pleasantly surprised with how "western" and comfortable the hotel was. After a long day wondering around Beijing and dealing with cultural differences (an important part of any trip to China, in my opinion), it was nice to have this haven to return to. Also, the gift shop has some lovely items. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Very traditional Chinese feel"
This is a local-feeling place. Clean, big rooms, lovely back courtyard. Not new by any means, but you can stay at the big Western hotels if you want that. The classic amenities are a throwback to the old China but kept fresh and clean here.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great Hutong setting"
The Bamboo Garden is an oasis; despite the noise of subway construction on the main street, we could hear none of it in the hotel. In room internet was spotty at best, and the claim of tempurpedic mattresses is untrue. We got a standard uncomfortable mattress; the best the hotel could do was provide another comforter which we used as a mattress pad. […] Towels are non-absorbent, but as a plus they do dry quickly. Despite bitterly cold weather, the room was warm. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Difficult to communicate with Hotel prior to arrival. Transportation from the airport to the hotel was not accommodated as advertised. Hotel staff unclear about services offered from the hotel. Transportation directly form the hotel very difficult. Hotel shuttle not available on weekends. Clean, comfortable room. "Green hotel for everybody"
Location is close to the subway which may bring you to many attractions in 20-30 minutes. Hotel has beautiful quate rich garden. Staff is pleasant with some English. however do not rely on their services on your request. Example, in the morning we asked receptionist to order taxi to train station at 5pm, OK OK. At 5 pm they told us that hotel does not […] call taxi from hotel, this is very expensive for them. Porter came out with us around the corner and we were picking up a car for 20 minutes, and in rush hour it takes more than an hour. Never order any tour and excurtion from this hotel due to significant overprice. Nataliya and Olga, New York. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Convenient location. Beautiful Garden. But hotel card needs a more readable direction for taxis (too small chinese letters).Genuine Expedia guest review
"Nice Courtyard hotel in Houhai"
A lovely simple courtyard hotel located about 10 min away from the Guloudajie subway station, close to the Drum tower and slightly north of Houhai lakes. There is not much traffic in that street so it makes it very difficult to find a taxi there. You can catch one though at the end of the street next to the MacDonald. Our room, 2nd floor over Courtyard, […] was roomy and clean (chinese style decoration), and the mattresses were very comfortable (that can be an issue in China). There was a computer in our room for us to use, but I chose to use mine (better if you are not familiar with Chinese Windows...). We only ate a twice at the restaurant, dinner and breakfast, and the food was good. Nice hotel to get a feel for the Hutong life. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Nice economical location for travelers"
Very traditional. Clean and helpful. The restaurant was marginal, but we were there in off season. The staff was very helpful in arranging tours and taxi service. They were also thoughtful in allowing us a late checkout on the day we were leaving and keeping out luggage while we did some last minute touring. I would recommend this hotel for future […] travelers. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"A beautiful small oasis in busy Beijing"
This was my second stay at the Bamboo Garden. As was the first, the stay was an outstanding experience. The property has a fascinating history, if you are interested in that sort of information. The location is very central to the Forbidden City, Drum Tower and Behai Park. There were lots of eating establishments nearby besides the restaurant in the […] hotel, and an convenience store and ATM were around the corner. The 60 CNY breakfast buffet (including made to order omelets and fresh fruits) was not to be passed up. The hotel provides a PC in each room and internet access in the room at no charge, This is great for catching up on communications with family and friends. The rooms are charming and comfortable. They are decorated in Chinese Ming style and have old antique phones, which do work! The bathrooms are Western-style with all the usual amenities. Its central location is great for touring the treasures of central Beijing. Our guides from The China Guide were able to easily pick us up and start our daily touring with no travel time into the heart of the city. I did not have much time to spend in the beautiful courtyard gardens. I can say that it is amazing how quite it is; you'd never know you were in the heart of the largest city in the world. I very highly recommend the Bamboo Garden Hotel. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Like a secret garden in a city of 18 million"
Wonderful location within walking distance to Lake and shopping area. Quiet garden behind walls. Decorated in Chinese style. Nice resturant onsite but many others a short walk. Only complaint was could not figure how to turn down heat in November. Will use the hotel again and again.Genuine Expedia guest review

The hotel is located in a very nice, central, neighborhood. The rooms are old, quite small and uncomfortable, as is the shower (there was no bath). The WiFi works some of the time (usually not) and you must choose one device for surfing and stick to it. The staff is nice but speaks very little English. "What a pity"
The reception&restrant service all worst and crazy ~~ kind of feeling ~~ not always The conditions such like furniture / appliances / bathroom all a little bit old~~the hotel location very quiet but the room wasn't sound proofing!!!Genuine Expedia guest review
Based in a huntong, this is a great place to experience real Beijing life, yet staying in a quiet oasis hidden in a back street. Lovely Chinese feel to the hotel. Breakfast is only 60 yen though there's a MacDonalds nearby when you want a change, and good nightlife steps away. Disappointing there is nowhere to sit in the evening. The (nice) restaurant […] isn't keen on you using the terrace unless eating, and then shuts at 9pm. Beds very firm. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great hotel close to some sightseeing locations"
We loved this courtyard hotel and were glad that we chose to stay there for 3 days. The Bamboo Garden Hotel is a sprawling complex with many low buildings (think chalet bungalows in sea side resort but tweak it into the chinese courtyard concept). The lobby block was closest to the entrance of the hotel which is nestled inside the Xiao Shi Qiao Hutong […] made of a long narrow road. We stayed at level two of the Ting song Lou (Listening Pines Block) which is further inside the hotel grounds, away from the alley and the car porch area where vehicles may idle while the tour vans or cars waited for the guests in the morning or evenings, past the restaurant facing the courtyard garden. There is free wifi in our room but it was rather weak. I could only get a strong signal if I sat at the window balcony area or near the room door/toilet area. We liked the quiet, relaxing and peaceful location of our rooms and the courtyard garden with the rock landscaping, mini bamboo forest and the lovely pine trees right outside our block. There is a pond (which is not so nice smelling) at the other side of the garden and I would not recommend at the blocks over that area near the pond unless the water is actually changed and flowing. Also, during our stay, they were constructing a massage room around that area of the garden. While they had the work done during daytime so it wasn't noisy at all during the evening and night, we could smell traces of paint solvent from the construction when we walked past the rock landscape in the morning. The hotel is around 10-15 minutes’ walk to the Gulou subway stn and Andingmen subway stn where the Nanluogu Alley is located is one stop away from the Gulou Station. Walking Directions 1: Turn right at the hotel exit, walk along the hutong alley till you hit the main road with an archway that reads Bamboo Garden in chinese. (i) MacDonalds, Drum and Clock Towers Standing in the direction facing the main road, on the right of the archway is MacDonalds where Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Bamboo Garden Hotel Beijing Review"
An oasis of peace in the heart of Beijing. Attentive staff, hotel with bags of character.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Bamboo Garden Hotel -- excellent experience"
A beautiful leafy courtyard venue off a traditional hutong. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay from start to finish. The room was big and beautiful. Service attentive and staff considerate. (Language issues were jointly negotiated.) Food in the restaurant was very good, and functioned as a good base. (But do explore the rest of Beijing.) Internet service […] a plus, but sometimes inconsistent. The Great Wall trip the hotel arranged with an English-speaking Chinese guide was a highlight. Overall we felt it was a Chinese hotel in a classic courtyard setting modified to be comfortable to Western tastes. A good mixture of rest and comfort and being in a hutong -- the best of both worlds. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Genuine Expedia guest review
"Tres bonne surprise"

Bilan catastrophique. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

Old villa in historic hutong. Recently modernized with perfect rooms. Rooms are not big, but everything is in its right place.
