Hotel is close to main areas, the problem is cab drivers do not want to take you to/from the hotel when distance is too small, you have to offer to pay them a fixed amount and not use the meter, this of course is not the hotels fault, but worthy advice. Buffet was below average, and furnishings where old, it is an older hotel/building, so you will not […] be wowed by its looks outside/inside. The neighborhood is nice, close to wangfujing street I believe its called. Staff where very helpful and this was nice. I would recommended it as a value hotel, but those looking for a little more modern or luxury experience will not be impressed. Read more

No VIP treatment from the hotel. Booked standard room with two beds so it was understood that we would be in the old building with some stairs to go up and the room would be small but never expected to be put up in a room with leaking commode. The bath room smell so bad that we asked for another room.

Not sure if we got stuck with an old room or what but for a 4 star hotel this place was very disappointing. The contrast between the quality of the grand lobby vs your hotel room was quite vast.The room looked like it hasnt been updated in over 20 years...complete with a CRT tube TV! The bathroom in our room was very rundown with signs of mildew and […] mold covering the shower walls. The metal towel racks were rusting and the bottom of the white shower curtain was a yellowy-brown shade. The provided hairdryer (which is just a tube attached to the wall) is laughable at best. It would take 2 hours to dry a standard head of hair with this thing. The carpeted floor in our room left my in-room slippers very dirty after very short time of use which was a bit unpleasant to say the least. There was no cool air conditioning for the room (only heat) and no window to open so the room was uncomfortably warm and stuffy - making it difficult to sleep at night. The internet was THE WORST we have encountered so far in Asia. The connection speed was equivalent to dial-up and they block VPN access so there is no way to get around the Great Firewall of China. This hotel is for OFFLINE travelers only. The hotel location was very good and close to the subway and many local tourist attractions (but then so are many other hotels nearby - so keep searching!) Needless to say, I wouldnt recommend this hotel to anyone as there are far better ones in the same area. Read more

I like the hotel's location. The staff were generally friendly and tried to be helpful, although one woman at the concierge's desk was surprisingly rude. The shower leaked onto the entire bathroom floor and that couldn't be solved. AND, the internet was a real hassle. Worked for a while, then didn't. Then seemed to work for about ten minutes...then didn't. Was very slow and more trouble then worth the effort. This is what I find ridiculous about state control and China particularly. Stayed there for 3 nights - location is great !!! Tour Managers were quite useful and polite. Other Service - not good. 2 mornings in a row, a cleaning lady enterred our room without nocking at 9 or 10 am when we were sleeping. 3rd time she nocked I started yelling "No room service pls" but she enterred the room anyway, even havinf had heard the noise […] in the room. At check-out, i found out that they charged me for beverages I had - 3 times. also they charged me for a bottle of Evian which I thought was a welcome and free water. When I asked them to fix it immediately, the front desk lady said: I cannot promise I can fix it quick )))) When I finnaly pushed them hard and checked out - noone even said: "Execuse us sir for inconviniences" - fantastic! Maybe this is cultural thing, i dont know. moreover, when i asked whether I can order taxi in advance, they said "No need, you come downstairs and concierge or bellboy will catch the taxi" - which I did. Those two idiots where standing 5-7 mins on the road without even waving their hand, then came back to me and said "sir, it is not possible to take a taxi" ))))) I went to the road, waved my hand and cought a taxi within 30 sec. I recommend this hotel from location point of view, but from service point of view - it sucks!!! quality of rooms was not 4 stars definetely, but weak 3 which was relatively of for us as we were out all the day and location was the key. This is a wonderful location. Walking is better than subway or taxi. The subway is at least 20min walk and taxis are hard to find. The hotel room was very comfortable and in a great location. The bathroom although spacious, had extremely arkward doors that were extremely annoying! We stayed on the Executive Floor as we had at many other locations around Asia but found this to be the worst we had ever experienced. The food selection, was below average and the service was terrible. […] My husband who travels extensively for work and always chooses the Executive floor for the extra amenities it provides was very unhappy with it. He arrived 5 minutes early and even though all the food was set up he was told he couldn't have any until the clock struck 12! Didn't make him very happy. Good mid range hotel- similar service to other European Novotels that I have stayed in except the lobby area had more staff (concierge and bar staff). Great location. We paid extra at check in for a superior room after reading previous reviews about the dodgy standard rooms in the West Wing. Our superior room was on the 15th floor in the main building […] and the room itself was spacious and clean but unfortunately we were not given a queen/king room as requested but a twin room (2 single beds). The room looked as though it was renovated recently and generally well done, but some of the renovations appear to have been carried out in a hurry e.g. our door latch looked as though it came off before and was screwed back in on top of what looked like cardboard. The fittings and new design of the sink and bath/shower was just like those in other newly renovated Novotels but the drainage in the bath/shower was slow. The bathroom also had a stale damp smell at times possibly related to slow drainage. I was very pleased that the toilet was actually in the bathroom and not separate as in Novotels in France and Germany (not fond of the latter). I would definitely recommend to opt for a room rate with breakfast as the buffet breakfast was very good (a lot of variety- western and eastern cuisines) as you normally find with 4 star hotels in the Far East. European Novotels should take note of this and offer more than a continental breakfast with only a few hot sausages and bacon! Read more
