I guess you get what you pay for. it was inexpensive, fairly clean and close to sights, metro, restaurants, etc. the hotel is a bit shabby and hasn't been updated in years. the staff is quite sullen and absolutely unwilling to help you with anything. If your looking for an old 1930’s art deco building this is wonderful place. If your looking for hotel service.... not so much. I loved this hotel. Great location two minutes walk from the Bund and five minutes from Nanjing Rd. Both are great for evening walks. Fairly soft bed for China. "Great location"
It is right behind the peace Hotel on the bund. Your right there for a scenic walk along the Bund or walk down Najing road. Only three blocks or so away from the subway. "Close to all the sights, it ends there."
This hotel requires an immediate upgrade. The rooms are ancient and the carpet shows it. There is no airconditioning despite what the web site says. Location was fantastic, close to the Bund, East Nanjing walking street, and metro subway only a short walk away. Very clean rooms, but very small, beds were very firm. But we could live with this. Big complaint was heat in the room. The thermostat, set to HEAT, but couldn't get the room to above 15C which was quite cool. Stayed 4 nights here. First 2 nights was in the 'elegant' room located on level 1. But this was more like a couple room ie round bed with a mirror on the ceiling and the toilet door was see-thru! Staff at the reception desk not friendly at all. The bed sheets were never changed for 5 days we stayed there. The room's floor were never cleaned. The towels looked always they were dirty. "Poor air conditioning, insistent staff"
only benefit of this hotel is its close location to the bund and Nanjing east street. Other than that this hotel could be given a miss. For those who are thinking of booking the room with window, forget it. There is NO window at all, even though the charges were higher. Facilities like Sauna, Jazzuzi were also absent, even though it was listed as present […] on hotes.com website. The most irritating that was the air-conditioning. The rooms had no windows, and the air conditioning failed to work properly. We had to inform the staff 4 times before they were willing to take a look. We checked out after day 4 to visit Suzhou and intended to check in again after returninf from Suzhou, and we crossed our fingers and prayed we will not get the same room. We got an adjacent room, but there was a problem with the air conditoning again. Again we went to complain to the hotel staff, who were non-chalent in their replies, saying that "we have to accept what it is". And none of them bothered to come up to our room and experience the heat. We arrived at 3am and checked into the hotel although our reservation was for the next day. For this premature check in we paid a 4 hr charge which was agreeable. The location is very good and we could practically walked to most destinations. The front desk staff was okay in answering most questions but the hotel could not provide us with a city map. We spent two nights at the hotel which is conveniently located within a few minutes walk to the Bund and close to all other amenities, subway station, restaurants, bookstores, historical buildings, shops, etc. When we booked this hotel after reading the reviews, we had expected the worst, e.g. foul air, poor ventilation, noisy, old, etc. etc. But we […] were plesantly surprised to find our room newly renovated (probably for the 2010 Shanghai Expo), tasefully decorated, with quiet air-conditioning and ventilation, clean sheets and free bottles of water everyday. Don't think one can find a better bargain for the low hotel rate, comfortable room and convenient location. I will stay here again if I visit Shanghai again. Stayed at the Manhattan Bund Hotel for three days. Everything about the hotel is great. My only problem was upon check in. I booked the room on hotels.com, and the website gave me the option of putting three people in their basic room. Upon arrival, they looked at me and told me there was no way that three people would fit in the room. I saw the room, […] and had to agree with them. In the end, I had to reserve two rooms for my stay instead of one. Since the first room was already paid for, what else could I do? We paid for the upgraded room with a window. The "window" had frosted glass, and did not let light in. It was a very small room, and the bed took up most of the space. This was a four night stay in Shanghai. The hotel was in a great location and for what we paid was a steal. Hotel was clean and staff were helpful. We stayed in the cheapest rooms which were ok. If we were to moan, and I am not, it would be that it was that the corridor smelt a bit musty.
