"Great Hotel"
The staff were wonderful. Rooms were clean and spacious. There is a Starbucks connected to the hotel although we ate breakfast several times in the restaurant. Great selection! Great Gym and Sauna. Very fairly priced, and a very good view. Felt secure, though tall blonde anlgo's are guaranteed to be solicited twice per block - no big deal. Besides near the Bund and Nanjing Road, this hotel's condition and service is just horrible. I don't quite understand how the hotel currently gets 4+ rating. The personnel is horrible (they kept telling me to pay RMB $40 service charge for each train ticket, then I realized (I speak Chinese) I can get tickets at RMB $5 service charge at a nearby travel […] agency). "Best Location in Shanghai for Me"
This hotel is excellent value for the nice price you will get if you stay several days. The location couldn't be better; Shanghai's main shopping and walking street, Nanjing Rd., is about 1 minute from the hotel. The wonderful Shanghai Museum is at one end on Nanjing Rd. and the Bund is at the other end. The hotel's gym and internet in your room are […] both free! And the restaurant staff at the Chinese and international restaurants are very friendly. When we stayed at the hotel for 5 days in December, the hotel lobby was beautifully decorated for Christmas. We stayed in a Business room; it was very comfortable and the staff cleaned the room well every day. The hotel staff speaks English reasonably well, and the concierge gave me good advice on getting to sightseeing spots. There's a 7-11 and a Starbucks (Note that it opens at about 9:30) right behind the hotel, which will save you money. The foot massages across the street from the hotel (by 7-11) are good & quite cheap as well. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Shanghai. We hope to stay there again soon! We did not eat at the restaurants, so I can not comment on that, but the location, condition of the hotel, cleanliness, comfort of rooms, amenities, fitness center including steam room, sauna, jacuzzi, pool, etc. was excellent. It was on a platform and stepping out was a big step to the floor, so hanging on is essential, but this is a minor issue when compared to all the way above features of this hotel. The only negative we have about this hotel is the lack of personal temperature control of the thermostat in the room. We had to leave the window open all day to get the room to cool down despite turning the fan to high. This hotel was in a great location in terms of being in the centre of Shanghai, but it cost us 350 yuen to get here from the airport which I thought was expensive. None of the taxi drivers at the airport wanted to take us to our hotel because they 'claimed' they didnt know where to find this hotel, this was pretty frustrating after getting off a long […] flight. After a long drive, finally got to the hotel they were friendly enough, but it didnt feel super friendly. The restaurant in the hotel was not the best. Once we got to our room we pretty much flaked on the bed and unfortunately the beds were rock hard! We paid for an extra bed here as we had 3 people total travelling and we didnt need it.
