Marilyn Monroe stayed at the Crowne Plaza Niagara Falls Fallsview while filming the 1953 thriller, "Niagara." This property's lobby displays a crystal chandelier, a player piano and a blend of contemporary and Old World décor. A sweeping staircase descends to the octagonal Falls Avenue entrance. A glimpse of Niagara Falls is visible from the lobby reception desk. The hotel includes The Rainbow Room by Massimo Capra restaurant. Lunch and dinner selections include grilled meats and seafood dishes, complemented with regional Niagara wines. A Starbucks coffee shop is located off the hotel's Falls Avenue entrance. "Great location, but small and old rooms"
We loved the fact that we had affordable fall views with close distance to all the attractions. The hotel was okay, but unfortunately there was a strong moldy smell in our room. Won't go back to this hotel. It has very small rooms because of it's age. Air condition was undersized and couldn't keep up with the heat. The picture of the crown plaza is deceiving, it does not look anywhere as big as the pic shows it. Hotel is located at far end of the falls, , there are plenty that are closer, but this one is right next to the main entertainment area. Staff was friendly, hotel is clean. The hotel upgraded my family to a smaller room that was barley able to hold four people. The A/C was not working and the people at the front desk do not know what is going on and act stupid when asked questions. If you want to be close to the falls, this is the place to be..It is only few steps away from the observation area, along the falls. The hotel had character and beautiful antique furniture. "Bring your wallet"
Crown Plaza: Plus side - Very good location close to the falls and main area attractions (especially good for kids). Staff was nice and the views are very nice. Down side - The room was quite small, carpet worn, no fan in bathroom, no counter top in bathroom and noise from the hall and elevator were noticeable. Niagra Falls: Plus side - The Falls are […] simply amazing and a trip behind the falls and on the Maid of the Mist won't disappoint. We did the package deal that combined the two with a third attraction (avoids waiting in lines). Also, the bus tour guide was very good and offered lots of peripheral information that was quite interesting. These two attractions are at their best on warm/sunny days as you will get wet from the heavy mist as you get closer to the falls. These are a must for any trip to the Falls. They are expensive, but well worth it. Niagra Falls: Down side - Aside from the lodging everything is very very expensive. It's almost mind boggling how expensive things are. If you want to enter the water park attached to the Crown Plaza it will cost you a separate fee per person per day even if you are staying at the hotel. Parents are required to go in with the children even if they have no intention of going on any of the rides (so that's an additional fee per parent). The restaurants, stores, amusement attractions are all very expensive. The minor things (breakfast, ice cream cones an amusement attraction) all add up rather quickly. Parking is also expensive. Niagra Falls is a nice family destination for perhaps 2 to 3 days (unless your going to travel to attractions in the general area). If you are planning on simply visiting the Falls and staying in the immediate area 3 days is more than enough. We would highly recommend staying on the Canadian side as it is more suited for tourists based on what we saw. So don't forget your Passports. I would strongly recommend this hotel if nothing else because of the price and its great location, connected to the Fallsview waterpark, and the older Niagara Casino. Admittedly, the hotel is "older" too, but it's kept in good shape. It also has lots of history - Marilyn Munroe stayed in the corner suite on the 8th Floor while filming the movie "Niagara" […] for example. Beautiful pictures of her abound on the the 8th Floor hallway, I wish there were more...The foyer is grand, and speaks to a different era of luxury, simpler times etc. The pool is a little outdated, as are some of the fixtures throughout the premises, BUT overall, it's a great property considering its price category, and its optimal location within walking distance to Lundy's Lane and the Falls. "Rooms are tiny"
Our trip to Niagara Falls was pretty fun. If you go, buy the adventure pass, and also make sure to do the butterfly conservatory. Our stay at the Crowne Plaza was ok, but I wouldn't stay again. The beds were small, and the mattress rock hard. The bathrooms were super tiny, with no counter, or space to put anything. There was no fan in the bathroom so […] you had to leave the door open. There was mold in the grout of our shower, and the shower head shot water out the top of it. There was a tiny class counter above the sinks that was calcified, and rusted, not attactive at all. There was no fridge to keep anything in, you had to rent it for $30! Also we were told that we didn't have to pay for parking sense we stayed at the hotel, but at the end of the trip there was a recipt under my door for $45!
