Overall it was perfect, but rooms are smaller than it looks like on the website. The checkout process (verification because non-smoker hotel) took like 20 minutes... Finally, it is sad that services such as a real gym, restaurant and pool aren't offered.

We really enjoyed our stay at Hotel Zero 1. The staff was amazing. Everyone was SO helpful when it came to both hotel requests & tourist information. I really liked that there was a small doorway in the lobby that went directly to a convenience store. The room had a fridge & microwave, which was also a huge perk. One negative was that there were only […] two towels in the room, so you'll have to ask the staff if you need more. In our room, the bathroom was directly across from the bed & the TV was on another wall across from two chairs. I'm not a big TV watcher, so this wasn't a big deal for me, but it might be inconvenient for people who like to watch TV in bed. The location is a little iffy at night due to it's location near the red light district, but we didn't have any trouble. It was a total "outside of the box" experience for a hotel. Room 1113, 11th floor. Room was the best i could book - panorama room. It had a decent view of the city, and was a good room. It was clean on arrival, minus a small white stain on the loveseat cusion. Paint on the walls was ok, but you could see repair jobs. Bathroom was spotless. Front desk […] spoke english, and got us cabs in less then 3 minutes. 10 minute walk from the VIA rail station, $20 cab to biodome, 2 blocks from Science Center & Igloofest. lots of restaurants & cafes within 1-2 blocks. Small nightclub 1 block away, and seated right next to chinatown. hotel was modern and had a cool vibe. Our room was smaller then i expected, and had a click coming from one of the walls on a 5 second interval, so that was annoying at night, bed was reasonably comfortable, and the bedding kept us warm. no pool which sucked, and small selection of muffins for breakfast. overall good experience, but i would rate it 3/5. Hotel Zero is walking distance to the old port, the subway, buses, cabs several restaurants, boutique shopping, themontreal underground and several adult novelty shops. The rooms very very clean and the decor ultra modern. Our room reminded me of the Korova milk bar in Stanley Kubrick's A Clockwork Orange. I would stay there again

The room had hip decor and a really comfortable bed, but was very small and not enough bright lighting. It did have a great "kitchen area" with real bowls, plates, and silverware, in addition to a sink, refrigerator, and microwave. This hotel was on sale. It was a great price for a great location and great room. It is walking distance from Old Town and Quartier Latin. We walked to rue St. Denis in the evenings and spent all day in Old Town. Clean rooms, comfortable accomodations.

Trendy, IKEA kind of place right in the middle of things. China Town is right across the street. Walk through there and you're in old Montreal. Another block you're at the waterfront. Leave the hotel in the other direction and you're two blocks from the jazz festival. Clean room with fridge and microwave. Hotel Zero was well above my expectation considering the moderate price. Staff was friendly and helpful. Landed us an umbrella on a rainy day too! Very thoughtful! The only negative was lack of nearby overnight parking, so we had to pay extra for valet parking. Good idea was coffee and muffins in the morning. Not impressed wtih this hotel. When we first arrived we went up to our room to find that it's AC/Heating was not working. We then left our room and let them know on our way out. When we came back they confirmed it was not working and we switched rooms. However, the next day we realized we could not find a piece of expensive camera equipment among our […] things. We were certain we left nothing in the first room. The staff did not seemed concerned about our lost item, but said they would check with housekeeping to see if it had been turned in. They had already put someone else in our previous room and did not volunteer to contact the new occupants. We insisted. The next day they confirmed, when we asked, that it had not turned up. It is apparent that the item "went missing." We did not make a big deal of it, but the staff did not seem concerned or apologetic. There are no safes in the rooms and we carried virtually everything with us in our packs the rest of the trip. Our second room had toilet problems and backed up twice. On another day, we returned at 5pm from a hot, exhausting day of sight-seeing only to wait 30 minutes while our room was made up. Overall, good location & price, but the service, security, and maintenance are poor. It cost us $350 to replace our piece of equipment; Hotel Zero 1 was an expensive mistake for us. Read more

It was ok. The room on the computer was exactly what the room looked like BUT it was the whole room. If you are a minimalist the room would be great. My husband and I were out of our room all day. Hotel was comfortable, 'modern chic' without being too overdone. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable, rooms are quite small, but well planned out. Room and bed were clean, firmer mattress than I prefer, but pretty nice. Great location, just outside of china town and a 5 minute walk from Old Montreal Port area. Parking across the street is a bit questionable […] but the hotel offers valet parking at an underground garage at a reasonable price and were very prompt about bringing the car. My husband and I stayed here in mid-October. Hotel has very friendly and accomodating staff; hotel is attached to 24 hour convienence store (sold everything including alcohol). Hotel is located across the street from Chinatown, makes for a good dinner location (did not eat there, but ordered carryout). Great central location to Old Montreal and the newer sights (Mile End, Crescent St, Mont Royal, Plateau area) for a very reasonable price. Immediate surrounding area is a little seedy, but we did not enounter any problems other than very drunk teenagers. The staff was incredibly helpful, whether it was with valet parking, bar recommendations, or instructions […] for using the metro system. Room was a perfect size for 2, complete with a mini kitchen. Hotel Zero 1 is not your cookie-cutter, large-chain hotel. It is a stand alone edgy, urban oasis on the Montreal area. LOCATION: 1) Catty-corner to Chinatown 2) 1 Block from the shops, food and galleries of St. Catherine Street 3) Close to the highway 4) 24-hour convenience store connected to the building 5) 1 block from St. Laurent metro entrance […] (also including rental bikes) 6) 10-15 minute walk to Old Montreal 8) 15 minute trip via Metro to the Biodome (easy ride without any connection points) 7) I feel like I should address this as well: Though it's on the outskirts of the "Red Light District" we NEVER felt uneasy. The area was clean and friendly. The district has been bought out by the city and efforts are being made to keep it safe and clean. Police could be found in multiple areas during later hours of the night (though they were never needed) and we never saw any "drunks" or prostitutes. If it weren't for the names on some buildings, you wouldn't know it was "red light". This is certainly NOT the typical/stereotypical "red light district" of a downtown USA city. AMENITIES: 1) Kitchenette in the room was great especially for those on a budget who plan to make their own food when possible - included a microwave, mini-fridge, sink, coffee pot, cups, plates, silverware, bowls and salt/pepper shakers 2) Very minimalist, European setup with hidden closets and storage throughout the room to make great use of the space 3) Beautiful, modern, funky decor in lobby and room 4) Nice terrace on 5th floor and sitting area inside hotel lobby 5) Muffins and coffee/tea offered in the morning until restaurant is built (finished by fall/winter of 2011) 6) Free wi-fi (even had a station in the lobby with rental laptops) STAFF: 1) Very friendly 2) Bi-lingual (as is ALL of Montreal) 3) Very helpful when it comes to touring the town (they had maps on hand for everyone) and knew all of the great locations for food, coffee, shops, etc SUMMARY: This hotel was located right in the Read more

Hotel is in a great location downtown right in front of china town, do note that being down town the area means the streets are slightly on the dirty side, in the heat there is a sewage smell although this comes and goes and is not constant. Montreal in general does not seem to have much overnight street parking that is some what safe, although we parked […] on the street we could see our car via the hotel room, parking costs were affordable but are meter based so getting up in the morning after the free overnight parking was annoying. The secure car parks are slightly restrictive and are a few blocks walk away and can cost quite a bit. The hotel was great, clean, friendly staff however the air controls in the bedroom did not seem to want to go below 72 for air conditioning so the room never cooled down that much I am sure this may have been a central control via the hotel, it didn't matter that much to us as the weather was cold anyway. Wifi was very slow so if you are someone who needs to be connected all the time, you may get frustrated. All in all I would recommend. Read more

We spent a few days over New Year's, and were really impressed! The location is awesome - right between old Montreal and downtown, so walking distance to both. Chinatown is across the street.. The room is really beautiful - the design is modern and minimalist. The beds were comfy. There's a tv, little fridge, some basics: wine glasses, bottle opener, […] etc. Some people complained that it was small so I was worried, but our room was pretty big (I think it was the "Hip"). The hotel and staff, were superb--fluently bi-lingual--and ready to help with suggestions for restaurants, etc. Situated right at the top of Mtl's vibrant Chinatown...it's less then a ten minute walk to Old Montreal; and maybe a 15min walk, to Mont Royal. The terrace has an awesome view, you cant see everything from Montreal BUT its worth having a look! Since i had my car, and i read about valet parking with the hotel, dont go with them, they charge 23 per night. We parked accross or down st-laurent street for 10/night on weekends and 12/night weekdays, allowed to park until 6am morning! Hotel located right across Chinatown, so we were able to eat chinese food and to get to downtown by renting Bixi bicyle was so much fun! or you could even walk down on Rene-levesque street and you will get to downtown where there is everything! shopping and restaurants. anyhow i will definitely go back whenever i get the chance!
