"My room had a hole in the wall."
I have stayed at a lot of hotels, and only a few have had service this awful. I arrived for a 5-day business trip, checked in, and went up to my room. The lobby and restaurant of the hotel were quite lovely, but my room was decidedly not. It was dingy and the bathroom genuinely looked like the bathroom of a grandmother in Kansas circa 1983. The worst […] part, however, was a large hole in the interior wall between the bedroom and bathroom. The gaping hole just made me uncomfortable. I have never before done this, but I went down to the registration desk and requested that I be moved to a different room. The associate at the front desk told me that she was new and didn't know how to help me, so she needed to talk to the manager. She proceeded to do so within my hearing distance. I heard the whole conversation, during which time the manager looked me up and down and told his employee that they couldn't help me. I asked her if I could speak to the manager (which was ridiculous, as he was standing right there and could hear me). I politely explained to him that I was not comfortable with the hole in the wall, and that I would very much appreciate being switched to another room. He asked me how long I was staying with them, and I said "4 nights." He sniffed, and said "how unfortunate, I can't relocate you until 5 nights from now." This whole time, the manager did not even look in the computer to ascertain whether any rooms were or would become available. It was the worst customer service I have ever experienced. I didn't know what to do since I had prepaid for the room, so I just stuck it out in misery. At one point, I had the do not disturb sign visibly hung on my door, and was leaving my room to run to the coffee shop. A staff housekeeper came up to me and insisted that I let her in the room to "make a call" even though I told her I did not need service and did not want to open the door. I'm not sure if all rooms are the same, but mine included a full size fridge, microwave and stove (I don't remember requesting, but the fridge and microwave were nice). I've stayed at the Century Plaza twice in the past several years and have enjoyed my stay both times. Compared to other hotels in the area, the rates are great. I really like the location since it is just a 5 min walk to Robson Street and 3 minutes to an IGA grocery store. I believe that most rooms, if not all, have at least a bar fridge and microwave. "My 4th Time Staying"
This hotel is great. I have stayed here before and am glad that I went back again. One thing that I like about this hotel is that it is centrally located to areas that I need to be in. Restaurants and entertainment are within walking distance of the hotel so I can park my car and not have to use it while I'm in the city. One thing that kind of got me […] this time was that the room we had did not have a kitchen sink in it. Each of the other times I have stayed here I have had a room that has at least a kitchen sink/wet bar plus a mid sized fridge and a hot plate. I was kind of dissapointed by that, but there was still a small fridge for our food and a microwave. Parking is a bit expensive per day, but it's less than most other hotels in the area. The hotel was very quick in responding to requests. One day we requested extra pillows and they brought them within 5 minutes. Another day I requested towels at the front desk. By the time I was at my room the bellman was knocking on the door with the towels in hand. We had other people staying in the hotel that weekend as well. They took advantage of the pool and really loved their stay. They had a one bedroom with 2 beds and sofa in the living room. We had a studio.
