We were in town one night between cruises. The hotel was less than a mile from the Canada Place cruise terminal--a fairly easy walk even dragging our luggage. It took about 30 minutes to walk there. We visit fairly often, which raises my one disappointment. We have stayed there 12 nights in the last 6 months. Our most recent visit was delayed one day by a local emergency, but there was no relief. We were charged for the room. Loyalty may have its rewards, but not at Blue Horizon. Overall, a nice hotel for the money. The hotel seems to be have been a former condo or apartment. The room itself was clean and roomy. There was an odd smell of paint or glue in the hallway. Even a trace in the room. The bathroom was far too small. Very cramped for just one person, let alone two. The bathroom ceiling was just above my head. And I'm […] not a tall person. The water pressure was excellent. There's an ice bucket in the room, but no ice machines to found anywhere; annoying. The balcony is tiny. So don't expect to sit out there. It's just a ledge big enough to look out. The free wi-fi worked fine on my computer. No concierge at this hotel. So you'd have to book reservations yourself. The front desk was often busy and it took time just for a simple question. A bellman didn't even know where what was where; I found that odd for a person who is supposed to be living in Vancouver. The lower floors have no view. So if you want a view, you'd have to book something over 10 floors and above (and that cost more). Didn't like the fact the room had no mini-fridge. So if you bought some food or fruit during your day, there was no place to put it. We had to keep or fruit on the air conditioner (which is a window unit.) Seems outdated to have one (and they are noisy) as opposed to central air. There is a small indoor pool and gym below the lobby. It was too hot and chlorine stifling to be in there. We very much enjoyed downtown Vancouver, especially Granville Island Market, a must visit. The hotel could have been more accommadating, like allowing a late checkout when a parade closed the street and any exit from the hotel until 4:PM. Parking is a little pricey.

CLEAN, BIG room, I got a double, not the single, but the extra room was great, I liked the layout of the hotel, only a few rooms on each floor, the windows, oh my god, the view!!! Incredible. Only negative was no wireless internet, I had to hardwire in, which meant sitting at the desk or the chair with the fabulous plush robe and the great view. So hard!! Stayed for 4 nights this week. We chose the hotel based on great reviews across review sites. However, our experience didn't measure up. We'll never stay at this hotel again. We've stayed at at least 4 hotels in Vancouver and Blue Horizon has the worst customer service. The wired network didn't work in our room. This sometimes happens at older hotels. […] Sometimes it's the Ethernet cable so I travel with my own. Other times, the hotel reboots its network equipment to solve the problem. But not this time. The night of check-in, as soon as we realized the Internet wasn't working, we contacted the front desk. I was transferred to their ISP. They couldn't solve the problem and escalated it to Network Admin, but it'd be 24 hours before they’d get back (and they never did.) Meantime, we asked the front desk to give us another room. It took them 2 days, after unpleasant and unhelpful interaction with edgy, defensive Summer, to give us another room while claiming "You're the only one complaining" and blaming my laptop. The Internet worked in this other room. If you need to use the Internet at the hotel and are given Rm 1204, you should ask for another room. An employee said hotel management is so cheap that they won't replace the archaic network with wireless and that they face the connection problems 3-4 times a week. Read more

We have been staying at the Blue Horizon for over 20 years and find it continues to be one of the best deals in town. Consistently clean and well-kept rooms and facilities, helpful staff, and great location with good transit service. On-site parking (though for a fee) also makes this convenient when traveling by car.

Hotel is in a great location, easy walking distance to lots of shopping and restaurants. Gastown and even Granville Market (although it's a little bit of a hike) are within walking distance. Staff was generally pretty helpful. The room was very large although the bathroom was pretty tight.

I've stayed at many of Vancouver's hotels, from budget to luxury, and the Blue Horizon sits in between. The location in the midst of Robson can't be beat, the views are great, and the beds are comfy. I found it curious that this hotel has an "official" 3-star rating but a 4-1/2-star rating from travelers themselves...well, it doesn't have some of the […] touches and amenities of a luxury hotel but what they do, they do well. Check-in was fast, but I know that can vary widely (NEVER expect fast check-in or check-out at the hotel's check-out time) and when we misplaced our keys they were cheerfully replaced. Parking is of course extra but at one of the lowest rates of any Vancouver hotel. The room itself was great (read the other reviews regarding the views) if modestly appointed. The coffeemaker needed replacing (they just get permanent coffee stains after a while and they're cheap to replace) but otherwise it was clean. Although they've got their own restaurant (yet no room service) and bar, being right there on Robson meant all of my favorites were nearby. I will definitely stay at the Blue Horizon again.
