"Ineffective management"
The room was nice.. Small but clean well organized and quiet. I booked here because of the pool and gym. I arrived late evening and just had time for a workout and swim. When I got down to the pool there was a crowd in it, drinking, yelling, running around. I decided to go to the gym first but the noise was so loud that down a hall and through another […] door that I knew I wasn't going to be able to relax. I called the front desk. The manager was on his way and other than telling them not to drink, did nothing. I came back 20 minutes later and then same behavior was continuing. I called the front desk again and the front desk clerk told me I could get up at 5 am if I wanted a quiet swim. Then in the morning I was woken up by the maid walking in, thankfully I woke up when I heard the card unlock the door and before the door was open. You can put all the nice things into a Hotel but it is the service that decides if I return. I have no interest in dealing with this kind of service again. I was over in Vancouver for a medical appointment, so being rested and relaxed was important to me Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Response by Holiday Inn Vancouver Centre Dear PJM, Thank you for taking your time providing us with valuable feedback on your recent stay with us. We are sorry to hear you were not able to relax in our pool area. For safety, we do not allow glassware in the pool area. Alcoholic beverages are also not permitted in public areas. We would certainly review the pool safety policy and make revisions if necessary in order to prevent this from happening again. As of the maid service, our standard cleaning schedule is from 8am to 4:30pm; however, our guests do have the option to leave a do not disturb sign on the hallway side of the door, or inform front desk that they would like to schedule a time for the room cleaning. Please do not hesitate to let us know if your have such requirements in the future. Once again, we certainly apologize for the inconvenience, if there is anything else we can assist you with, please do not hesitate to let us know and we would certainly do our best to accommodate your needs.
"not ever again"
1) we found out that the hotel was going through renovations and called the number for the hotel and spoke to someone at Holiday Inn who did say the pool was open. When we arrived it was not. Very disappointing to us and the kids for our mini-vacation. 2) neither the web-site or reservations lady mentioned that all ameneties were not operational: no […] room service or no in-hotel restaurants. even the guest services book in the room did not say so. we had to ask and found out that no room service, kitchen was closed and restauruants were under renovation also. 3) hotel is concerned with security; apparent by the "safety card" in the hotel room saying not to open a door if someone knocks. The hotel even posted a B&W print out alerting hotel guests to the suspicious person in the parking... but there is absolutly no security between the parking garage which was open to the public and the 11th floor that we stayed on. It did not feel like a safe hotel knowing anyone from the street could get to our "front door" at any time. 4) poor quality cable TV (grainy pre-digital channels), basic cable channel selection and no options for on-demand ordering of movies - is very disappointing. Get with the 21st century & actually use the new LG TV for high def. or don't bother upgrading the rooms. 5) who thought its good to put the light switch for bathroom outside the room and no fan to move steamy air - this is a new renovation? The shower head is WAY too low, even for 5ft6" me. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Response by Holiday Inn Vancouver Centre Thank you very much for your valuable comments. I will explain your concerns in point form if I may. 1. The parking in the hotel is a public parking lot which hotel give discounts to guests who are staying in the hotel at the rate of $17 per night instead of $38 fro 24 hours charged by the public parking metre. 2. Broadway is indeed a busy street, unfortunately with some homeless people on the street; however, this is a safer area compare to downtown Vancouver. 3. Our hotel pool has been closed since June 2010 and we advertized on the holiday inn website. Unfortunately, I cannot verify that any hotel staff would inform guest the pool is open when it has been closed for almost 2 years now. 4. All renovation details can be found on the branded website. 5. Safety card is required by the City of Vancouver and by IHG to be displayed in the room. 6. We have a centralized fan that works 24 hours and removing steamy air from the bathroom 24 hours a day. Unfortunately, we are unable to modify content on any third party sites. We have provided all renovation information to third party agencies who usually book with us; however, not all information are delivered to guests by the travel agent. We apologize for the inconvenience. Thank you.

This hotel is doing some remodeling and it badly needs it. The pool was closed, rooms were dirty, and its over priced for its condition.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Disappointed"
The room was clean but had no mini refrigerator or microwave oven. They also did not provide free parking even though the building itself has a huge parking garage. On our last day the cleaning staff did not provide us with the usual complimentary soap or shampoo. We had to ask for this at reception.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Not impressed"
The hotel was undergoing major renovations. Our original room was the only usable room on the floor and smelled heavily of smoke. The hotel did honor our request to another room on another floor but tried their best to talk us out of it. The second room had a nice view of the city in the distance but the room itself was nothing outstanding. The location […] was not convenient for much of anything. You needed to drive or take a taxi. I also thought that the parking fee should be waived for overnight hotel guests. I would not recommend the hotel for your stay in Vancouver. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
The hotel does not have enough elevators. We ended up going up when we pushed the down button and stopping several times. Our room was near the elevator and there were kids running in the halls yelling at 6am.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Not impressed"
There is not a proper front entrance to the hotel. There is so much renovation that there is not even a restaurant or a swimming pool. I got stuck on the elevator for 10 minutes which was dreadful. There is no discount for people going to the hospital or clinic. They should be discounting the rooms because there is a lack of services and a definite discount […] for patients.I wish I would of booked somewhere that lived up to there advertisement. We booked a room as a last minute weekend vacation. Luckily, we were able to get a room, but after the experience we had there, not sure it was worth it. The hotel was being renovated, and with a few of the facilities being closed down for that reason, I feel that the hotel was way overpriced for what we got - I feel like I paid for the opportunity […] to stay downtown Vancouver and thats about it. Nothing in the hotels binders were updated - we were looking for food at about 11 pm at night after reading that the lounge was open until 12:30 am on a Saturday night, and walked downstairs to find it had closed at 9:45 on a Saturday night. The hairdryer was broken in my room, I had to have workers in and out of my room to try and fix it as I was trying to get ready to go out and enjoy the day in the city. The front desk members were helpful when possible, but didn't seem to know a lot about the surrounding area or what was going on around the city for the Long Weekend. The parking costs for the lot were absolutely ridiculous - way to overpriced for a two nights stay. Overall, I probably would not go back to this hotel, for what I paid, I feel like I could get a lot better elsewhere. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Hotel was under Renovations. Spa/Gym/Pool were all closed. Heavy drilling & construction during the day. Would not have chosen this property if I had know of these conditions. Would be nice if Hotels.com made this information available. Since booking is prepaid - your stuck upon arrival. Not a nice surprise. Just thankful booking was for only 1 evening. […] Have stayed at property before and is usually good. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
The location of the hotel was very convenient, but the hotel itself was in a shambles. Extensive renovations were being done. Floors 5 and 11 to 16 were being completely gutted, one of the 2 elevators were out of service and a high rise concrete and steel building(an addition to the hotel facilities) was under construction as well, from 0730 to 1630. […] There were very long waits for elevators, 10 min plus, as construction crews were using the single elevator in service and the construction noise made it impossible to stay in the hotel room during the day. My husband was recovering from surgery and was forced to leave the room as he could not rest due to the noise. The soundproofing between rooms was nonexistant too. We could hear everything our neighbors were doing. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
