"Hyatt's Worst Hotel"
The hotel is living on its past. I was told that the Hyatt was the pace to stay - this was my first trip to Canberra - and while it has an excellent location and looks good, everything is a bit tired in the room I stayed in (and the half-flush on the loo did not work). Things went wrong on arrival. It took nearly half an hour to check in - there was […] only one receptionist and she clearly did not know what she was doing. She initially said that my room was not ready (at 6.00pm on a Sunday evening) but then confirmed that it was. She had enormous problems with my credit card, declaring that the problems were caused by the new equipment, despite the card reader and computer palpably being ancient. I am sure she checked me into the wrong room because although I had booked a smoking room, which she confirmed, there were no ashtrays in the room. On the second afternoon the room room had not been made up when I returned at 5.45pm. I called Housekeeping but no-one answered. The Front Desk sent someone who said it would take 20 minutes and so I went to a common area to read my book. I returned 30 minutes later to find two other Housekeeping staff if my room, one of whom said that I had left my door open. I said I had not and began to explain but she interrupted me to say that I had. From this I deduced that the person making up my room had left (with the room not quite finished) and left the door open. While now exactly a high theft risk this is totally unacceptable.
