"Seriously Under-staffed, and It Shows"
Wireless internet did not work for entire two-day stay. Satellite tv was stuck on the same channel whole time. There was a decomposing fly in the ice bucket. Staff were unavailable to assist with any of these things when reception was called. Have had similar experiences at this hotel in the past. There seems to be only one (friendly, hard-working) […] staff -- and he is responsible for everything (reception, cleaning rooms, continental breakfast, on-call demands). "The only good thing was the location"
It was conveniently located just 30 seconds away from the highway. But that was the only good thing. "Perfect for what we needed visiting family"

While they are making improvements to the rooms themselves there were things that should be moved up on the priority list. The Ice machine wasn't working, nor was the pool available. I was told by some others staying that the hot tub was not actually hot although I didn't expect to be using the pool or hot tub. "A Hotel Where Everything is Broken!!!!"
The property the hotel resides on is unkept and unclean. The grass hasn't been cut in well over a month or more it was a mess. Huge tall weeds all over the place and the grass was so long it was ridiculous. Our refridgerator didn't work we reported it to the owner and he didn't do anything about it. He could have went to another unoccupied room and […] gave us another one but he didn't. The icemaker was broken so no ice. The pool was NOT filled with water it was empty and the jaccuzi the heater was broken. The bathroom could have been cleaner and the carpet definately needed a good cleaning. The complimentary breakfast is a joke, consisting of bagels, toast or cereal etc. Cheap tea and coffee. Pets are allowed which we were not aware of and we were awoke by the barking of a dog very early in the morning not to mention our son is allergic to dogs and cats so this place is pet friendly but not child friendly. The only staff member was the owner of the place. He did everything so there needs to be more staff on board. I must say though he was hospitible and polite. I would recommend this as a place to stay if you really need a place but if you want fancy, clean luxuary you're not going to get it here. "adequate but disappointing"
Adequate hotel . We stayed 2 nights.Hotel is tired looking but in the midst of some improvements. I will stay there again as it is convenient to where I visit in Ridgetown . Definately not a 5 star hotel. Breakfast with the room was disappointing. Coffee weak and watery two days in a row, Serving area was not organized to need. Sugar and cream opposite […] end of counter to the coffee. No ice machine for guests. Little choice of items to eat. Area to eat was drab and poorly furnished. But there is a restaurant attached to the hotel that has good food as well as one across the road that serves good food. Our room was clean and quiet. We had a coffee maker with no pot and no cups or coffee to brew, but room had a microwave and refrigerator. There was some construction of a hall of some sort just past our room. Workers had left the hallway strewn with boxes, tiles, garbage and drywall materials. We had to climb over it to get to the hallway leading to our room. Definately not safe and I suspect not according to fire regulations. I hope to see the place improving as I visit over the next few months. Happy that it was animal friendly and our dog was welcome. Response by Howard Johnson Ridgetown Thank you for your review on Expedia. I apologize for the experience in our breakfast area as we are under renovation throughout the property. I am certain the next time you visit, our breakfast area will exceed your expectations. This project will begin shortly. The organization of servery items has been noted and has been immediately organized to improve flow and experience. The items offered at our continental breakfast include cereal, bagels, toast, fruits, juice, instant oatmeal, coffee, tea, hot chocolate, brownies or butter tarts and or waffles including condiments. A laminate tray in the ice machine needed to be replaced and hence our front counter was offering guests trays of ice or bags if needed to compensate for this downtime- In the future a special notation will be posted on the ice machine. This part is now replaced and is again working like new. We have recently introduced coffee makers in rooms but are still waiting on supplies. This is an unfortunate oversight by our team to install the coffee makers prior to having supplies. It has been noted and order for supplies is further rushed. The South end of our building which offers a Bar/Meeting Room has been under construction and is now nearing completion, I am aware the contractors have not been neat about their work and it is now mandated for them to keep the area clean and safe at all times. It is important for us to get this feedback and continue to improve this hotel to its full potential. As a courtesy to all guests, you have helped us in giving insight over important details that were overlooked and for the most part appreciate your honesty in evaluation. We hope that on your next visit our hotel will meet and exceed your expectations.

"Adequate for the price"

You know the saying, "you get what you pay for" but with this hotel you actually get more. I've stayed in other hotels where I have paid a lot more and got a lot less. Well based on previuosly read reviews, i was a little nervous as to what to expect upon check in, It is very old and outated but we were only there to sleep.We were travelling with young kids and would have enjoyed the pool if it were in use. "Cheap hotel where you get what you pay for"
This hotel is not your father's HoJo. Presumably a former generic motel which has become part of the Howard Johnson franchise. Right at the more easterly 401 Ridgetown exit, next door to a truck stop. Perfectly adequate, considering the price you're paying, which is quite modest. Decent swimming pool.
