The hotel is very clean, comfortable, and good value for money if you need to stay at the Joburg airport. Otherwise, the surroundings are of interest only if you like casinos -- any gambling action you want seems to be available. Be careful in reserving your room to request a room on the side of the hotel away from the airport runways and the highway; […] the noise can be bothersome if you are not jet-tired. The hotel could aid the traveler by giving more explicit directions on finding the free hotel shuttle at JNB, tucked behind the Intercontinental Hotel but only a short walk from baggage pickup if you know where you are going. Very nice location and right near airport, but my room was not much to impress. Very plain room, really low option and small. That said, the was no problem with the room and it was adequate. The location is great! If you need a room right near airport and would be happy with bare bones room, this hotel will get it done for you!

We booked at the Metcourt only 24 hours in advance, as our flight was delayed and resulted in us missing the last connection of the day to our final destination. The Metcourt has a free shuttle from JNB, which is excellent because the hotels within walking distance of the terminal (especially the transit hotel) are so expensive. The shuttle takes 5 […] minutes at most, and the hotel itself backs right up onto the runway, so the distance is negligible. I'm an American and don't need a visa to leave the airport in South Africa. Anyone in the same situation would be well advised to leave the airport for Metcourt (or similar) if only because the prices drop precipitously once you're off-property. The Metcourt is part of the Emperor's Palace complex, which includes several other affiliated properties, as well as a casino and entertainment complex. The restaurants looked great, and had lots of different kinds of food. (We got there after dinner, so didn't actually have anything to eat.) There's a nice infinity pool, and an on-site business center for internet access too. The rooms are small but amenity-filled, with flat-screen TVs and very comfortable bedding. The decor is very modern and fashionable, like something you'd see anywhere in Europe-- very impressive! Our only issue with the room, however, might be something that would keep us from coming back, and might be something that should make people traveling in parties of more than one think about using another hotel. The room we had had a beautiful stall shower and a toilet in the corner, with only a curtain to pull around them and separate from the room itself. When opened, it made the room feel larger and more luxurious. But we were two people, and really didn't enjoy the idea of using the toilet when the other was just on the other side of the curtain!
