The hotel itself was fine - our room was clean and quiet and the beds were comfortable. The staff were nice although there was a lot of talk about "work" at the front desk when I was sitting nearby which should have been private. We swam in the lake and took the canoe out which was really nice. There are two pools as well. We had the buffet breakfast […] on the Sunday morning which was quite good but on Monday morning you ordered off the menu which should have made the food fresher. The homefries looked and tasted a lot like they were warmed up from the day before - burnt and hard. The hollandaise on my husband's eggs benedict didn't taste right. This is a good place for a basic stay and there are restaurants closeby in Huntsville - it would have been nice to want to have a lunch or dinner here though. Read more

I enjoyed the hotel but was a bit disappointed with the maitenance of the room. The door jamb of the bathroom was missing and the door could not be secured. I pointed this out to housekeeping, who were apparently aware of the problem, but it was not repaired prior to our departure. This hotel is located near Algonquin park and is a good starting point to explore nature. It is also close to downtown of Huntsville (5 to 10 minutes' drive) where one can top up stocks like drinks and food or have dining. The decor of rooms are a bit old. The reception desk is usually manned by a single staff most of the time. I feel sorry for this […] receptionist as he/she often overworks with plenty of things to handle. He/she has an extra job of handling procedures for towel request and return service for patrons going to the swimming pool. So there is often a queue for normal guests checking in and a gueue for the towels handled by one single guy. Logistically this is wasteful of manpower and inconvenience to customers. I suggest that they have a shelf for clean towels and a large bin for collection of used towels at the swimming pool cancelling the meaningly 'borrow and return' service for towels. Read more

My husband and I have been getting away for a night or 2 whevever we can to Huntsville and always stay at Hidden Valley. It is the most "cottagey" of all the big resorts in the area for just a night or 2. It has changed hands many times and it's conditions have varied from really bad, bad and acceptable. But I must say this time, under new management […] we could see the new improvements. Although the building itself still has the rustic warm feeling we love, it seems fresher and cleaner with new decking, fix-ups, touch-ups, friendly service and lovely new duvets and pillows in the rooms. They even have new quality toiletries which was a nice touch. Hidden Valley is no Deerhurst but thats exactly why we stay there. One negative thing, bring your own beach towels, the ones they have are a real embarassment. Tiny tiny and you can see thru them. I would rate our stay as "good" overall. Enjoy! Read more

Pool not great, exercise room awful...very little equipment and no sanitizers or towels. Felt dirty. Hotel ok. Dining room adequate. Good breakfast at reasonable price. I was surprised that there was not a real wood burning fireplace given that it is a ski lodge

Very friendly hotel staff, rooms nice and clean. Nice lakeview. Bed very uncomfortable. The extremely white bright light (industrial light) of the pool area which is connected to the lobby gives the place a somewhat uncozy atmosphere. Breakfast good and good value. Location good, although a 5 mins drive outside the city, and the lake is not a big […] pro in mid october. Sauna and pool ok. What really annoyed us was the quality of the food at dinner. A Spinach Salad with Cranberries and tons of sugar that should rather be served as a dessert. Two pasta dishes, highly overpriced for the very poor quality (overcooked Bolognese which tasted like Michelina's and I mean this in an exclusively negative way), "Beef Tip" Penne which came with very low-quality beef instead of the beef tenderloin promised on the menue. Overall, this just a place to sleep for us and was reasonably quiet. If you used the other parts of the hotel, this would be better than just a low end motel / hotel. The positive. The common hotel areas are very nice. Nice deck looking at the lake, beautiful dining room, pools, work out area, etc. We booked a "deluxe room". All this got us other […] than a room facing the lake which we could not see from inside the room. Between the hotel and the lake, there is a row of very high private condos (or the like) which block most of the view of the lake. The farther you are from the common areas, the more of the view these places block. From inside, a shrub outside blocked our view. If we went onto the balcony and went to one end, we could see a small bit of the lake. I asked "What was so deluxe?" I was told that Expedia could only categorize the rooms as standard and deluxe, so the resort mapped lake side to deluxe. They went out of their way to stress lake side vs. lake view. It appeared recently painted, but no vent cover back on the bathroom vent. And, the bathtub was chipped. The TV was a historic tube type – not exactly superbly appointed. When we got back to our room for the second night, our room had not be made up. I asked whether we should have expected to have our room cleaned. They were quick to answer yes and they would pass our concern to housekeeping. I asked if that was it and they said "Yes". No "We're sorry" – it was our bad luck. Read more

beautiful scenery right on the lake and has fire pit, nice restaurant and bar area and patio with a view of lake, needs some maintenance thru out resort, beach is small but has basketball court, tennis court, suitable for families with younger kids. Quiet location just outside of town.

I thought the rate was reasonable but not too impressed with the overall condition the hotel is currently in. I had been to this hotel years ago and it was in much better shape. The staff did accommodate my request to change rooms as the first one was not satisfactory.

We booked a delux room, I could not see any difference for the extra money. During a rain storm the roof of the hotel leaked into our bathroom (we were on the second floor there was a floor above us). Staff did readily move us to another room but it took much wrangling to be reimbursed for the annoyance.

Picturesque location on a small lake and tucked in a hillside forested area. Hotel decor has a nice rustic charm to it. Checking in was a little frustrating and slow. Reception staff was not all that friendly. We got a room in the basement (lower floor) area which faced the parking lot. The excuse was that they were completely booked up. Not impressed […] at all. However, despite the room, the hotel surroundings made up for the room and service shortcomings. Next time I would rather stay at the nearby Deerhurst Resort. Read more

When we checked in, I had to request a move to a room with a view as we were given a room overlooking the parking lot, even though the hotel was pretty empty. The view of the lake is lovely and the grounds are also lovely. The beachfront would be nice during hotter weather. Unfortunately the canoes and water equipment were not available to guests as […] it wasn't summertime yet. The restaurant was overpriced. What a shame - this hotel is a shell of it's former self but it's beautiful and needs to be saved by an owner who cares about it. Clean the staff out except for the dining staff who are very nice, clean up the property, update the facilities because the view and the property are stunning.

My fiance and I were charged an extra fee to our credit card at check-in which we were told, was simply an authorization. It was actually applied to our credit card and it took me over a month to get it back. I called the resort several times inquiring about this extra charge and the customer service was terrible.
