It worked out well. We needed a reasonable priced hotel near the airport before our cruise leaving out of Miami. They provided a comfortable, clean room at a reduced rate. I'm not sure what the crazy 1 & 2 star reviews are about? Hotel and room itself were very clean. Lobby was in fine condition, bell service great, front desk friendly. NO Florida hotel mildew smell! Plenty of shuttles running to airport in the morning. Only negative thing I could say is the pool was a dirty and hot tub had some green algae. ...oh, and […] YES the restaurant was ridiculously overpriced. $15 for a salad?! $9 for cheesecake?! Ha! "Close to airport"
Everyone was very friendly and helpful. Check-in and -out was quick. Room was clean. There didn't seem to be much around, other than the airport, which was my only need anyway. I was irritated that, while there seemed to be a good-sized, convenient parking lot behind the hotel, parking had to be valet or pay-to-park. My daughter lives in Fort Lauderdale […] and could only drop me off in front of the main entrance and pick me up later. To stay and visit would have required that she park the car and pay. Seems to me that allowing people to park their own car and stay awhile for free would be good for customer relations. I was traveling with my elderly mother and couldn't take their free shuttle because the step up to their van would have been too high for her to manage. I had another way to get to the airport anyway but if I hadn't, it would have been nice to have an option to use a shuttle that is a car, not a van. Perhaps that option exists; I didn't ask. I assume many customers of Fort Lauderdale hotels are elderly snow-birds -- perhaps having an easy-access vehicle would be a good idea for all airport hotels. My other complaint (and this was true of the Capital Hilton in DC as well) is that the TV is old -- fuzzy picture and not flat-screen. Also as far as I could tell, there's no way to know what programs were on without clicking each channel. A pain. Overall, though, a comfortable stay. "pre-cruise hotel close to fishing museum"
We stayed two nights prior to our cruise so we had no car to check out the area well but we did walk to the fishing museum and Pro Bass Shop which was within a mile. Not great waking along a busy road but it is possible on the sidewalk. There is a Noors lebanese bakery which is very good for a quick lunch. The beds at the hotel were great and the pool […] area pretty but there is the sound of traffic clearly heard. We did not try the hotel restaurant since it seemed so pricey but we had a great grouper sandwich in the hotel lobby bar. However, the hotel has figured out a way to charge for everything possible, so if you want a small refrigerator in your room (there's no minibar) it will cost you; if you self park a car in their garage (as you must since there's no nearby […] street parking) it will cost you $15; if you want wireless access it will cost you. We got to check in early and said we could drop off our rental car at the airport and catch their shuttle back to the hotel since we had an early flight the next morning.
