"Great Hotel"
The Fairmont Orchid is a great hotel on the Big Island. Comfortable rooms, lots of restaurant options, great pool and view of the ocean. It's fairly isolated, so renting a car is a good idea if you want to see the island (and car rentals are cheap). We tried a few restaurants in Kailau and were very pleased, especially Jackie Rey's and Kona Brewery. […] If you want to relax, enjoy the weather and take it easy you cannot go wrong here. Overall I would give this hotel an excellent rating. Everyone was very pleasant, food was very good and valets were quick on their toes.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Tranquility and serenity."
Wonderful resort experience. Our room had a partial ocean view overlooking the beautiful golf course and was tranquil and quiet - just what we were looking for. The room was spotless and very recently updated including a fresh coat of paint without a single mar or scratch on the walls. The rooms have refrigerators which was convenient. Self park costs […] nearly as much as valet so we used the valet. Good exercise facility and yoga classes including "FloYo" which takes place in their beach lagoon on paddleboards for those who might enjoy this (my wife enjoyed it immensely). "Best swimming pool and snorkeling lagoon ever!"
We loved swimming in the free form pool, around hibiscus and palm trees, next to the ocean. It took me 7 minutes to swim one entire passage around the pool. Warm water, warm day, I was usually alone swimming daily 8-9 a.m. The pool is only 3 1/2 feet deep, so also would be ideal for water walkers. Big soft towels are provided by the pool. Snorkeling […] amid turles and colorful fish in the hotel's very large beautiful lagoon was best of any of the 4 islands we have visited. Winter ocean waters being especially dangerous, swimming and snorkeling in protected hotel waters is a priority. What gorgeous grounds, with stunning waterfalls, abundant flowers, exotic plants. Our comfy room looked out on ocean and mountains. Loved our evening dinners at their beach cafe, watching the sun set over the ocean, sipping our mai tais and strawberrry-coconut smoothie. "Nice place for families, older couples"
Beautiful location, nice variety of restaurants (they morph from breakfast buffet in the morning to Japanese dining in the evening). Several out door restaurants for lunch and dinner. The pool area is very nice. There seemed to be a lot of young couples with young children, as well as seniors. Golf courses didn't seem to be busy anytime of day. Lovely […] Hawaiian musicians in the evening at the Luana Lounge (before and after sunset) and Brown's Restaurant during the dinner hour. There is a little bay with a very small crescent sand beach so if you are looking for long walks on sandy beaches you have to go off property. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Quiet, accomodating luxury."
This is a beautiful property, very comfortable and relaxing. The staff is friendly and accomodating. I was there a short time so I did not use the spa or all of the dining options at the property, but proximity of shops was a positive for shopping and dininng.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Been there twice now. Highly recommend."
A very upscale experience. The pool is large and you don't have to fight for space. The beach cove is perfect for children. The rooms are spotless and very comfortable. The staff is extremely accommodating to any of your needs. There is a refrigerator in the room and a great grocery store down the road for small items. I'll be back.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Great location and high quality"
A superb and well run hotel with pleasant and friendly staff. Hotel location is wonderful and the rooms are comfortable, clean and well appointed. Since our last visit, where I was annoyed they deemed it necessary to charge for parking, it was a very pleasant surprise to find that this was no longer the case. Well done.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Paradise on the island"

"Great place for a couples getaway"
The Fairmont is a beautiful property with VERY friendly staff and great location. The Concierge desk gave us great recommendations from places to eat and activities to do. Be prepared to pay high prices for the restaurant experience. The food is pretty good, just expensive. They've just done some renovations to the rooms and it looks great.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Quiet and relaxing"
This hotel is not for kids. Good for adults that want a quiet and relaxing stay. The shuttle service is the best! They take you next door to Maunalani, which we ate for Breakfast Buffet. They also take you to the small shopping center that had the greatest Japanese Restaurant and a grocery store that you can get cheaper food. The cove beach area is […] the nicest I have ever seen on the islands ( and I live here!) a really nice place to snorkel, paddle board, catch crabs and have fun with kids. We sat and watched the sun set and collected sea shells. I highly recommend if you want someplace quiet. It is close to Waimea (20min drive) but far from the airport and Kailua Kona town (45mins). I would go back there again Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great choice at the Big Island!"
This is an excellent hotel. I have two complaints: Expedia indicated this was a 'children free' hotel. It was not. The hotel charged $17 for self-parking daily. This is a ridiculous fee considering there is plenty of space in the island. This charge should have been included in the overall fee, more over, parking should be complimentary.Genuine Expedia guest review

We went for anniversary trip and couldn't have been happier. The room overlooked fabulous gardens and we were steps from the beach. Staff was excellent. Would recommend to anyone.Genuine Expedia guest review
"My new favorite hotel on the big island"
We loved the Fairmont Orchid and look forward to returning in the future. Several floors of rooms in the south tower had been taken out of service for refurbishment so the resort was quieter than usual (mid Sept '12). Our room hadn't been refurbished yet but was still very nice. The grounds are beautifully landscaped. Service at the hotel was impeccable. "Heaven on earth"
Everything was very beautiful. The only thing we not reserve an ocean view room because it was not worth the extra money. The block wall on the patio is too tall to see over. We definately will return and wish for a room that faces the pool on the north side. Georgeous! "Great for Families, Couples, or Individuals"
I was spoiled back in 2008 when I stayed at the Kona Village: it was a unique, magical place. Unfortunately, it sustained heavy damage from the 2011 tsunami and has not reopened. I am happy to say that while it's not Kona Village, the Fairmont Orchid has a very similar feel. It is a small, intimiate, romantic resort with beautiful decor and the grounds […] are just gorgeous with all the tropical plantings. There are plenty of places to just hang out and relax whether you want to have sun or shade whether you are on the beach, by the pool, or lounging in comfy chairs on the hotel lanais. The priviate bay is teeming with all kinds of fish and honu so snorkeling is excellent. It is a family-friendly resort and the keiki (kids) have so much fun playing in the sand and water of the sheltered cove. The staff are friendly, courteous, and helpful. As a single woman who often vacations by herself, I felt very comforatable there and by the end of my stay, everyone knew my name which made it extra special. I'm looking forward to staying there again. Aloha! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Lovely hotel, great location, small annoyances"
Lovely hotel overall, wonderful setting snd scale. Food in the restaurants we tried was excelllent. Room was good not gorgeous. "Beautiful resort on the Big Island of Hawaii"
Our stay at the Fairmont Orchid could not have been better. The property is beautiful, the view from our room was beautiful, the view looking out over the ocean was magnificent. T he beach was spacious and was in a little cove where we could do some snorkeling. Giant sea turtles come up on the beach and rocks. It was amazing to see them that close. The […] food at the restaurants was superb. Most meals were a little pricey, but I guess that you have to expect that at a resort like this. Every staff member that we had any interaction with was extremely friendly and courteous. We have decided that when we go back to the Big Island, we will stay here again, and again, and again. "Beautiful Oasis"
Overall, our stay was wonderful. We did pay premium for an ocean view and ours was partial ocean view so somewhat disappointed about that. The hotel staff was very cordial and helpful. "Beautiful location, outstanding service"
My husband and I fell in love with the Fairmont property and the staff. There were many families there, but the overall feeling is serene and relaxing and the property is beautiful. There's a private lagoon with beach and good snorkeling, a unique outdoor spa, tennis facilities and an oceanside golf course. The staff is uniformly friendly and helpful. […] Due to a missed flight and some additional days there, we stayed in a partial ocean view, a garden view and a deluxe ocean view over the course of 10 days. They were all lovely, but definitely book the Gold Floor, where Stacy and Elizabeth take great care of everyone. There's a private lounge with breakfast, hors d'oeuvres at cocktail hour, and cold drinks and snacks available around the clock. We like to dive and spent four days with Kohala Divers in Kuaihae Harbor and highly recommend them - real pros, great service and small groups on the dive boat. There's also some of the best snorkeling on the island just north of the Fairmont at Puako beach, where a stunning coral reef parallels the shore for 2 miles! You can just walk to it along the shore trail - the south end is the safest place to enter and exit. We dived and snorkeled there several times and saw a "turtle cleaning station," where the green sea turtles stop to be cleaned by small fish. We also did the nighttime manta ray dive with Big Island Divers - not to be missed! We can't wait to return to the Big Island and our new second home at the Fairmont Orchid! "A Lovely Resort"
The hotel grounds are amazing. The staff couldn't do more. They were incredible. Even came by at the pool to clean my sun glasses! Valet parking is $22.00 a day.Self- Parking, a bit of a walk, is $17. There is a shuttle that takes one to the Mana Lani golf couse (fabulous!) There is also a little shopping center a mile away with a Tommy Bahama's and […] Macaroni Grill and a Only Tacos restaurant. First two expensive, Of course restaurants at the resort. This resort is so lovely. At the end of the year it is going to be renovated, I'm sure the prices will go up. I did feel the rooms needed fresh paint and new carpets throughout. Not really bad, but it wll be fresher. The main lobby and all outside a superb! Don't expect a full ocean view as pictured by Expedia. I paid for it and got a garden view room. The hotel is in a U shape. the ocean is paralled to the tips of the U .If given a choice go for the inside of the U. The outside is golf course view and not as pretty. The hotel is about 30 minutes north of the airport. LEFT turn on to the main highway. I arrived at night and it is pitch black everywhere. The speed limit is 35, 45 and the MOST 55. There is no light at the hotel intersection.....just palm trees on the left. It is at the Mana Lani and then a minute or two drive. If staying and not planning on driving see if there is a shuttle to the airport. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

My family and I had a great experience! I have three teenage children and decided I might require a room upgrade for sanity after the plane ride. The staff was friendly, accommodating and were even able to give me a great discount. The concierge staff was the second best place to visit. Never in a hurry and the best recommendations! If you stay make […] sure you sign up for presidents club ahead of time. It's free and gets you all kinds of goodies like free wifi and 15% discount in stores and on activities. "Great hotel, beautiful grounds, lot of extra costs"
Very nice hotel and we had a great stay there. The grounds are beautiful, although the surrounding terrain is nothing but black lava flows. The beach was very small and extremely crowded. A big downer was that everything costs extra, which was annoying. Parking was $17/day, internet $14.50/day. Dinner at the hotel restaraunt is $45-$65 per entree, Breakfast […] was $35 for the buffet. Even having a shaded spot to sit near the beach was $45/day. We spent a lot of time hunting around to find groceries and cheaper spots to eat. "Excellent value, low key high quality resort"
Service and food on the Gold Floor was extraordinary and in fact equals if not exceeds Four Season standards. The room directly faced the ocean and was over sized with exquisite furnishings and a commodious marble bath with both a tub and large stall shower plus double sinks. The property is expansive and beautifully landscaped with many flowering plants […] and shrubs. There is a very large serpentine pool large and an excellent beach for snorkeling replete with sea turtles. Two world class golf courses adjoin the property. The tennis facilities are superb with at least 11 courts. The Orchid is a remarkable property and staying on the Gold Floor puts this property over the top. This is not a glitzy resort in any respect but a most tasteful gem without flash. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Fairmont Orchid superb in every way"
This was our first time to Hawaii, and we found the Fairmont to be very nice. Less than 30 minutes from Kona Airport, very close to many top golf courses - Mauna Lani, Mauna Kea, Waikiloa and the Four Seasons -- all highly recommended. We had friends staying at Four Seasons, which had some advantages over the Fairmont, but also some disadvantages, and […] we personally couldn't justify the price difference. We'd stay here again. "Excellent hotel with lagoon for snorkelling"
Great to have the private lagoon right at the hotel beach front. Snorkelling can be more enjoyable if the hotel can add coral structure to attract more coral fish to the lagoon. Green sea turtles at the beach is a bonus. Snorkellers can swim with them while they feed in the lagoon (under water).Genuine Expedia guest review

"Golf course elegance, quiet and relaxing"
The Orchid is graceful, elegant, and still feels friendly! The drive over to the property from Kona takes you through a moonscape of jagged black lava, so it is a welcome surprise to glide into the manicured golf course environment of the Orchid. This is a quiet, spacious hotel: turtles in the lagoon, flowers, birds, geckos, a welcoming staff, we had […] a lovely restful time after the hustle and flash of Waikiki. Our boys loved the geckos! The geckos' brilliant lime green backs and beady black eyes make them look like children's toys, but then they zip away into crevices and you know they're real. The game was to spot as many as we could every time we left the building. The sun sets directly off the coast from this hotel and we made a point of going out to watch for "the green flash" at sunset. We didn't catch one, but maybe you will.
