Make no mistake, Troutbeck is real Lakeland. This undulating valley, riddled with a maze of footpaths linking ancient hamlets at times appears to lure you into their gardens.
Occasionally, Windermere Lake comes into view a few miles down the valley, tempting you away from the swathe of fell tops above. The best advice is to keep returning to ensure you haven’t missed anything. At least this way, you can eat your way through The Queen’s Head menu and stay in another gloriously comfortable r...
Idyllic 17th century Coaching Inn
We do welcome well-behaved dogs on a lead on the slated area in the bar, and in 2 of our Lakeland Bedrooms which are located on the ground floor of the annex. We offer WiFi access for all guests in the bar area and most bedrooms, but unfortunately it is not currently available in our annex. There are games available in all our bedrooms for the "older" children and also toys and games available for the younger ones in our bar and restaurant area, just ask a member of staff for help!
Rooms with fabulous four-posters
This place has a secret. But not for long because when the word gets out about The Queen’s Head bedrooms, their attraction could rival the food. Rooms with fabulous four-posters and quirky walls from another century; textures and colours to relax the senses - all combine to provide a welcome sanctuary, whether in the original Coaching Inn or the beautifully transformed ancient barn opposite. Don’t go home, sleep over.

Home to England's highest mountain, Scafell Pike, the Lake District is a National Park of astonishing beauty and a huge draw for nature lovers and hikers. The multitude of lakes and tarns give the park a stunningly unique landscape, which visitors can take in during a slow ramble or whilst enjoying one of the area's many recreational facilities. loved it thank you. Room freezing on arrival and then too hot! (Heating on all the time). Other than this one complaint, we had a great time and have recommended it to others.x GlynGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Excellent get away from it all"
Lovely old hotel. Very comfortable rooms and the food excellent.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Gastropub in beautiful location."
"olde worlde" hotel, lots of dark carved wood. Room was big on cushions and dressed teddies. Nice view from window, and plenty of beautiful countryside all around. Small problem- There was a small unglazed window, covered with fabric flap, between bedroom and ensuite, just by toilet, which was disconcerting when using toilet.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Queens Head Hotel, Cumbria"
The hotel/pub is gorgeous. Will definitely stay there again. Food is a bit pricey but it saves you travelling further afield. We got the tariff at a good discounted rate which was suitable for our purposes and the facilities provided. I would not stay there at their normal full rate as I don't think it would be value for money. The room we had was in […] the adjacent converted barn but was smaller than expected. Still comfy though. This hotel accepts one night stays. Most places nearer to Windermere & Ambleside state a minimum of two nights. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Charming olde world hotel in Troutbeck"
A very nice, character hotel well placed for Troutbeck and area. Excellent service and food. Room was charming but small, with nice personal touches and a very modern en suite, , cat swinging would have been difficult!! We were in the annexe, room 19, but don't know if the other rooms were as snug.Got a last minute deal so well satisfied for value for […] money, but would have baulked at paying the full asking rate.. "Lovely, friendly 17th inn"
The inn is lovely and the staff were, without exception, very friendly and welcoming. The food was good quality and beautifully presented too. Personally we found the teddies and dog in the room a bit twee but that's a matter of taste. We found it easy to get everywhere from there - short journey to both Windermere and Ambleside. The ale was very good […] too, as were the house wines. The ambience was cosy, friendly with nice clientele. We would definitely recommend this inn. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good food & drink!"
Great choice of real ales and lagers and very good 'gastro pub' type food. Maybelimited choice for a fussy eater but we were well satisfied and ate there on both nights of our stay and enjoyed it thoroughly. The only negative for me was the poor wi-fi connection which seemed to drift in and out of range and was pretty much useless, even though our room […] at the front of the main building. This hotel has a good location, only 3 miles or so from the lake and there is plently of good walking and exploring to be done nearby. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
We were in Room 16 which was a little smaller than I expected but would definitely stay here again. Fabulous pub in beautiful location.Genuine Expedia guest review
The service provided by the staff was excellent, the quality and choice of food served in the restaurant was superb. Our only complaint was the cleanliness of the bathroom floorGenuine Expedia guest review
