A charming cluster of pastel houses, shops, cafés and watchtowers, Amalfi seems little more than a village. However it was a great naval power and a wealthy trading republic in medieval times. Its dramatic setting in jagged cliffs cloaked in vineyards is best seen from a boat. Amalfi’s star turn is a gorgeous cathedral with great bronze doors and lacy cloisters. The nearby village of Atrani is quiet and pretty, with a fine Byzantine church.

the shower was awful.. the bed very uncomfortable and a terrible pillow. They do have a lift which I had specified as my husband cannot walk many steps but we were not told of the long flight of steps going up to get to the hotel. Also has no view. Would not recommend.. there are many hotels in Amalfi.. surely you can find one betterGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Hotel Amalfi review"
The room was small and gloomy although always kept clean. The bathroom was old and the bath so small I had difficulty standing up in it to take a shower. Breakfast was uninspiring - by day 8 I could hardly face it. Car parking was expensive. The hotel scratched my car but would not own up to it or make a contribution to repair costs.Genuine Expedia guest review
