"Bad location and dirty surroundings"
It was a bad experience staying with this hotel. First the location is away from the main road. The road is flooded and bumpy and is about 10-15 minutes walk from main road. While your walking you will see a lot homeless sleeping in the talipapa market at night. My room has no AC, no screen window, my view is garbage, no nose tissue, no cap shower, […] very old scrapy furniture, broken chair, very hard bed mattress, two tiny smelly towel. "A little disappointing"
There was inconsistency in the service provided by staff - particularly at the front desk. Housekeeping staff were always polite and were receptive to needs. We needed to ask for things that were missing eg. kettle for the room, room service menu (and we were in a suite). I recently stayed at the Golden Phoenix during the last week of October. Overall, the trip was great, the hotel was decent but definitely overpriced considering the quality of rooms.
